Season destroyer

FFS I applaud all the glass half full “we’ll go again” posts but come on that was an absolute travesty and we simply can’t perform like that and hope to go up

True but we can't expect to get away with those sort of decisions in other matches either.

Dowell lost the ball plenty. Don't need mercurial at 3-0 up. It wasn't substitutions that scrambled Henderson.

This is a very good point. He gave the ball a way a couple of times in quick succession before coming off.

More than anything, he was probably tiring as he's not played much football this season.

I hope Sharp dealt out some street justice when they got back into the dressing room. A literal kick up the arse would do some of them the world of good.

The thing is, this isn’t the Premier League, Liverpool draw at West Ham and it’s a bad result because Man City can easily go on a 10 match winning run.

Leeds, Norwich, West Brom and Boro are decent Championship teams but they will drop daft points like we did tonight. Still plenty more twists and turns to come this season.

And it’s still in our hands to take points away from 3 out of 4 of those, no matter how tough those fixtures look on paper, anything can happen as we’ve unfortunately seen tonight

We could easily beat Boro, West Brom and Leeds ..or we could lose all 3

100% think we’ll still at least finish in the playoffs no matter what and then it’s anyone’s game *touch wood*

This division is full of these crazy results

Norwich had several 4-3 either way 3 -3
Iwest Brom lost 2-3 is their season destroyed

Over reaction ..... villa away point was a optimistic outlook pre game . Disappointing after but season ending NNAAAHH

A result like that.

Potentially.

Some draws feel like wins, some feel like defeats and some feel like...well, draws!

There is little doubt that this one feels like a bad defeat and it is true that sometimes any bad result can potentially damage a season.

However, this season we got off to a bad start and some United sides in years gone by would have struggled after that kind of start. This one hasn't.

Just over 3 years ago we played at Wigan. They were 3-0 up after an hour. The collapse wasn't quite as steep, but the result was the same. 3-3 and the equalising goal was a late one. We somehow managed to pull it back and no doubt there was much grinding of teeth amongst Wigan supporters that night.

Wigan finished top of the division that season.

After that game they went 15 more consecutive games undefeated and only lost 2 more games in the whole of the rest of the season. One of those defeats was on the last day when they were already champions, barring a cataclysmic change in goal difference.

So, yes, it could trigger some sort of collapse, or it could lead to a determination not to let it happen again.

Time will tell, but I'm not going to jump off a skyscraper just yet.

In the 2002-3 triple assault season we were 2-0 up at Ipswich with 15 minutes to go. They had only 10 men. We lost 3-2. Absolutely gutted probably doesn't adequately describe how most of us felt.

The response on the old Blades United forum could be described as comedy gold. The Warnock haters really had a free hit that weekend and our season had been dealt a mortal blow.

Not saying that things will follow the same pattern. Every season is different. But that season we soon picked ourselves up.

& won nothing or went up.

it's hardly typical - 3rd best defence in the league.

Over the whole season we have won 1 point more in the last ten minutes than we have lost based on goals scored from 80 minutes onwards. That sounds quite low for a top 3 team TBF but we are hardly bottlers. I also think, that is a measure of how many games we are winning after 80 minutes.

5th best forward line as well, and 2nd best goal difference

Not that I'm not totally pissed off mind

& won nothing or went up.

I think you've totally missed the point.

It hardly destroyed the season did it. Or perhaps you think the 3-2 defeat at Ipswich caused the play off final defeat?

If it does destroy our season it could destroy our club, could see players sold too old and league one in 18 months.

It's happened before it could happen again.

Ridiculous. Yes I'm upset, I would be delighted to be proved wrong, really feels like it.

That is an over reaction of epic proportions.

That is exactly what costs you promotion.

Not just 2 big points, but the manner of that throwaway. It could dent the belief.

Villa couldn't have made it any easier for us to take a comfortable 3 points. But no. Why allow that to happen. We are not worthy...

The fact that this OP isn't being unanimously ridiculed is genuinely amazing to me.

This result gives the players, manager and fans a big test of character.
Next game is a massive game at home to Boro, it was already a pressure game but now becomes even more pressurised.

Tonight’s result could be a season destroyer but it could also be a season maker.
We now need 6 points from the Boro and Reading home games to get autos back on track,

It’s not just “a point away from home” though is it. There’s overreacting and there’s totally ignoring the fact that that was a bloody shambolic result in the context of the game.

Shit result from the position we were in, but it’s not the start of Armageddon.

Subbing is one thing
Subbing in such a way that the team is completely changed is another

Why managers feel the need to make substitutions to keep it tight for the last 10 minutes I'll never know

What was wrong with what we were doing ?
Why did it need changing ?
Why did we need to drop 30 yards backwards and defend what we'd got against a team who'd offered nothing up to that point ?

I can understand players getting tired and needing to come off, but in a game that's going so well why change anything tactically

You change tactically when what you are trying to do isnt working, that's the whole purpose of tactical changes

straight swap Duffy for Dowell was all that was needed. Just like at Norwich. Couldnt believe it when i saw they were bringing Cranie on

If we play like that for 80 minutes of each of the remaining games we'll win a damn sight more than we lose or draw. We won't have many freak results like last night.

How to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory and it is as good as a defeat tonight, it looks like we have thrown away the chance of a top two finish

Absolute bollocks. It’s not a defeat and we’re still well in the mix, it’s only February for fuck’s sake.
