I've just been snooping around wondering how many tickets Scunthopre have sold to-date - 2,150 from an allocation of 2,292 - http://www.scunthorpe-united.co.uk/...-united-away-tickets-now-on-sale-3511376.aspx

However, Bolton have been given an initial allocation of 4,393 - http://www.bwfc.co.uk/news/article/...ted-ticket-information-confirmed-3553298.aspx

Does the away team request an initial allocation or do we offer it?
Why have Bolton got more? Is that due to fanbase?

Also, I thought we were having the lower tier? The Bolton allocation suggests not.

it was only for 3 games cant see point really when weve hundreds of seats empty in other 3 stands those figures suggest scunny could sell more and i would offer em to them more cash in our coffers maybe only giving em that many because thats all they gave us

Hopefully, we will charge Bolton the same as they charged us.

It was a good idea giving us that end too but we should've had the upper tier. If we had the upper tier I'm sure even the final few seats would have a better view than a lot of the kop and when people work that out it'd probably sellout first. I like the thought of chanting from all sides of the ground, even if people can't hear each other.

It's against the rules.

You have to charge away fans the exact same as what the home fans in similar facilities are being charged.

That's why so many clubs have a category system. Bolton made our game at their place cat A which is £30.

Our cat A matches are only £25.

2,292 tickets sold at Scunnie is really impressive.

That's nearly 50% of their home support. It's like us selling 9,000 tickets for an away game at Scunthorpe.

if bolton dont win these 2 home games coming up can see em bringing less than scunny

Not sure I'm too happy about giving either such a big allocation - on the one hand it will be good to create a competitive and edgy atmosphere which is usually lacking in this shit league but on the other hand, why give any advantage to a promotion rival, allowing them more support? I know it's cash etc but surely not THAT much to make a real difference. I would give both just the shit view in the lower tier and sell upper tier to Blades fans.

I'm sure that's why Manure only allocate that small corner triangle bit of about 3,000 to away fans for league games, when the capacity is nearer 75,000.

Also noticed Bolton are doing a super 7 feature where they pay a total of roughly £15 per adult and £4 per concession for the last 7 home league games, trying to attract more fans for their promotion push, a bit like a mini season ticket. I think it's a great idea and maybe we could've tried something similar?

Agree with that. The Bramall Lane upper tier has the best acoustics in the ground. Needs only a dozen voices in there to make a din, and we're going to have substantial followings in there for crucial home games against Scunthorpe, Bolton and particularly Bradford.

Until we have a better solution, to stick away fans where they can have a minimal effect on the atmosphere, the lower tier of the Lane end is the best option.

Talking in to a steward on Saturday on BL upper corner he was saying Scunny had got upper and lower tiers, and he wasn't sure on Bolton. We've defo got BL upper corner as i've upgraded my st from Kop to there for those two games.

I reckon for the Bolton and Scunny games SYP are setting United up for a fall. High pressure, high profile games, away fans on lower tier bang next to the now reopened section on lower part of H block. It kicks off there, which is highly possible, SYP then turn around and say we've agreed to reopen all of H block and this happens, we're going to close it for the next 5,10, 15 years. Be interesting to see if they let away fans in all sections of the lower tier.

The lower tier is much better than you'd think. The unrestricted view and the roomy and covered concourse is better than the kop in many ways.

It doesn't take much to be better than the Kop concourse.

he was saying Scunny had got upper and lower tiers.
They've only been given about 2,200 tickets so I can't see them having both tiers.

Again there are rules relating to away allocations in the PL too.

For capacities less than 30,000 they must offer a minimum of 10% to away fans
For capacitives over 30,000 then a club must offer a minimum 3,000 to away fans.

When we were in the PL we gave away fans the whole of bottom tier which held 2,990.
They obviously let us off for the sake of 10 seats.

I'd have liked to see both get small allocations. Depending on how the next few games pan out, I can see 25k plus crowds for both anyway. I think we should be looking to take every advantage we can such as by diminishing the away support. Then again, if we just charge Bolton the earth like they did us and they don't sell out, it will be a cause to give them some stick.

As I understand it, there is a minimum allocation but the away team can request a higher number, where possible. So at BDTBL, all away fans will get the upper tier (3k ish) but if they request more, United will give them the lower tier. So it would suggest that Bolton have made that request.

I'd like our fans in the lower tier but we also need to make better use of the upper tier.

While in L1 the best solution could be to put away fans in the corner of the upper tier. Very few would sell out that section and it would mean our fans being on both the upper and lower tier behind the goal.
I'd like to see season tickets made available on the upper tier, while keeping the lower tier spare for when away teams need a bigger allocation.

I remember reading that the upper was designed with easy segregation in mind too, in the event of home and away fans being on there, so that wouldn't be a problem. I suppose we already have home and away fans up there but they're miles away from each other and there's usually only a few hundred of each. This being the case I don't know why they don't give our fans the central section.

If Bolton have already been given the lower tier that's daft, they won't need it. And by the time it becomes apparent they don't need it it will probably be too late to sell tickets to home fans for the lower. Same goes for Scunthorpe.

The usual terms of business is if an away team requests additional tickets over and above the initial allocation they buy these up front from the home club and 'take on the risk' of not selling them all. So, zero risk to us just means more income for that game, regardless of how many Bolton sell...

If the away team request a certain number of tickets, don'tn they have to guarantee they are sold and if not sold, they pay us anyway?

The difficulty with away fans being put in the Corner is the exit is shared with the South Stand exit. Agree with home fans going on the top tier though. I use to have a season ticket up there great view and good atmosphere (albeit a bit cramped at half time).

I do feel we should pay more attention to home fans than away fans. Even just lump them in the family corner and re allocate the family section else where.

Seen as though Bolton have only travelled to Bramall Lane once in the last 17 years, that being in 2006 I'd suggest there will be quite a lot of there fans wanting to come here and a lot more than people think.

A lot of their fans will have never been and will see this as a good time to come, being in a promotion race and competitively priced, along with been a cracking day out, what more do they want? :)

I'm predicting they will sellout, if not then they will need the lower tier regardless.

Yeah but these minnows love visiting a big club

They will both sell out those allocations. I hope the Bolton one is top tier and into the corner only though, so that we can fill the bottom tier. That's what it sounds like to be honest judging by the number allocated. This could quite easily be a 30,000 attendance

Never understood why the away fans are in the upper tier and not lower. Use to love sitting up there
