I'm not meaning to be negative but I'm a bit surprised how much people seem to rate this lad after 45mins. I agree that it was a very good 45mins but some are talking about him as some sort of saviour, I've even seen somebody describe him as a bit special. I hope he does turn out to be a top player but I think I'd like to see a but more of him before deciding how good he is, if by mid march he's still getting rave reviews fair enough but I'd hate to see him built up and then ripped apart if he falls short. This is not a negative comment, more a call for a reality check regarding super sgoogs

It's not as if he's only played 45 minutes in his whole career. He was highly rated before we were even linked to him.

I know where you are coming from here.

As excited as I was by his opening cameo where he showed abilities we haven't seen at BDTBL for lord knows when, this was tempered with the thought that, opponents will now (already) be more aware that this unusual talent has arrived on their radar instead of being a mildly interesting talent north of the border.

If and when we start to play him regularly, teams will set up to stop his influence and go to great lengths to negate his abilities.
However, I believe (already), that given he doesn't become susceptible to injuries and other (off field) distractions, we have a talent that sometimes transcends any legitimate and underhand tactics to stop such a force.
If this happens and he shows that English football is well within his capabilities, the next question will be, of course, how long before some bigger fish gobble him up.......

Right now I can't wait to see his next appearance....

you worried about your place then Michael??

Deary me, Just how pessimistic can you be. Get down the doc's to treat that depression.
If you look back, I'm amongst the most positive on this forum, I remember the ridicule quinny got on here, sometimes for as little as a mis-placed pass. We have a tendency at BDTBL to build a player up and then spend the next 4yrs slating everything they do. I just think having realistic expectations of scoogs will help him become a hero not a villain.

I chuffing well hope so, otherwise we aren't getting the best out of him. This is the whole point of having quality players that need extra attention from the opposition, it creates freedom and space for others in the team, why the hell do people think the Woody/Currie pairing was so successful? A player of supreme quality like Currie gets that extra attention and then the opposition get mugged by Woody with all that extra space, and of course TC had enough quality to deal with the extra attention and still provide.

I've said elsewhere I want him playing in the team, but not just for what he can do but what he can allows others in the team to do; notably Baxter, Murphy and Flynn. Teams setting themselves up to stop Scoogs are hopefully leaving more space and freedom for those three to create more.

Just need a goalscorer to finsih it all off!

Surprised it took nearly a week before someone stuck the boot in ,lets boo him on Saturday and turn him against us before he gets the chance to settle in and show us anything , LETS MAKE A FUCK OFF YOU SCOTTISH GIT BANNER AND DO A REALLY BANG UP JOB

Err bit of an over reaction I think. O/P made a legitimate point for discussion (unless of course you are being heavily sarky? ;))

Try a relevant comment SP, sometimes your 'jokes/humour' is crap.

Under Playground Rules (page 1, article 1), you've just made it compulsory for everyone to call you Michael indefinitely.

Sorry. :)

Or, in the none drug related world, we could have a sensible discussion about getting over excited about 45 minutes from a debutant.
Fortunately Brian Howard has cured me of instant hero worship for ever.

Actually JD, I'm favouring MickyD over Michael next time things kick off!

As a grey haired, past-his-sell-by date Blade I look back to the 70's with brilliant memories. Everyone should enjoy their teenage years. For all us teenagers in the 70's following the Blades TC, Woody et al made a big contribution toward us having a great time. My niece's son (my great nephew) is 14, season ticket holder who has made a commitment to being a Blade. I hope for him and all others of his age group that a player comes along that can give them as much pleasure as TC did for us.

It may be early days but I hope it's Scougall or even Diego when he is unleashed onto the BDTBL stage. Whoever is immaterial. Just hope the youngsters of today can look back on this forum in 40 years time talking about a player that helped make their teenage years so memorable.

I think all the comments previous have been tempered towards cautious optimism , it appears any faint whiff of positivity has to be trampled on before it flowers, god forbid any of us get excited about any prospects,
dont remember seeing any posts comparing him to Lionel Messi, just sayng it was encouraging , compared to the shite that went before, why we need a thread telling blades fans not to get giddy , well , how can we with the number of manic depressives in our ranks

If Sougall is already a marked man imagine how Diego is going to get treated when he plays again. The entire footballing worlds scouts are already making roads to BDTBL (surely this should put a few on attendances by the way and we shouldn't let them in for free). I can imagine as soon as we kick off, all 10 outfield players will mark him and leave our other players free. So I expect a lot of 0-0 draws. However if you play Scougall and Diego in the same team the opposition will be so confused they may all combust.

Must say I winced a bit when I saw him go in for some of the tackles last sunday because he is so skinny. Reminded me a bit of Speedy McGeady, a prodigious talent who could run like a whippett. He broke his leg and that was it. Young Scougal needs to be looked after.

Ive been saving a pot of spitle for 3 years underneath my bed just for the day that we signed scoogs.

Im ready to unleash it at him at his first misplaced pass.

Were all blades arnt we?
