After the goal went in, we gradually withdrew deeper and deeper with less players getting forward. I'm not quite sure why. It wasn't Clough by the look of it, and he put two up front. Are the players so scared of losing that they automatically become defensive with a lead? If so, why? It makes no sense to me.

Well they have automatically become defensive with a lead all season and Clough has had all season to fix it he hasn't.
That's why he'll be gone in a week unless he pulls something spectacular off on Monday.

I don't actually think it's the players nor do i think the enforced half time substitution was totally to blame. 1st half Murphy and flynn pushed on almost as forwards and the midfield played higher up the pitch, getting into the faces of Swindon, winning the ball, and moving it quickly to the "front 3". Said to my mate as soon as the 2nd half kicked off that you could see Murphy and flynn were playing deeper. The rest of the midfield did the same and it was obvious that we'd changed and reverted to type ie. Defend and hit them on the break. Not until Done came on did we change slightly.

I don't believe this has been down to the players all season but have tried not to jump onto the anti Clough bandwagon BUT he managed to grab defeat from the jaws of victory with his "tactics" last night and I've now had enough.

It's the lack of goals in us that creates the fear.
You regularly see NC waving them forwards when they drop deep (although the tactics are to defend deep at set pieces - which isn't working) so they probably get a bollocking if they don't get back in shape after a forward foray.

If Done doesn't start on Monday we will not score enough to have a chance.

Swindon can keep the ball and use their wing backs to hurt us on Monday. Not convinced we have the quality in midfield to control the proceedings and create enough. Without Done we won't finish those anyway

Don't get me started on set pieces....can't take them, can't defend them

I thought they were marginally better with Murphy taking them than Baxter. We actually caused the odd problem

Would you replace NC?
I am bored of boring footy. There seems little passion and heart. I go and sometime I genuinely can not see anything that relates to why I became a blade.

I want attacking, high tempo play, in fact like the first 20 mins last night. I'm sick of excuses about number of games, tired etc.

So for me I think his days are numbered. The 'Bishop' indicated that he knows the boards minimum expectations.

There were lots of unemployed managers in the directors box last night.

Got a good idea for our corners

Kick it straight out for a goal kick

We will have less of a chance of conceding a goal from a goal kick and it will be just as exciting and as close to a goal as the alternative - in fact, much closer to the goal :)

If Clough doesn't go ( could fall on his sword ) , then there has to be wholesale changes with the backroom staff , as something is clearly not right and good enough.
This also includes Morgan.

We do have the nucleus of a good side , as shown too infrequently throughout the season. It is going to take a brave board to sort this one out , as if we lose on Monday , they cannot afford to bury there heads in the sand , and for us to carry on regardless . Yes Clough has had some bad luck throughout the season , including last night , but a lot of it has been self inflicted.

The board no doubt will be having a meeting after the Swindon match , but what makes this even harder , i honestly believe Clough actually thinks he has got it right , even throwing in a load of , if , buts , and maybe issues.

We have thrown away a fantastic chance of achieving automatic promotion this season , in a very much of a muchness league. The opportunity , is in the moment , and we have made a pigs ear of it IMO.

Always UTB

Sorry got to disagree, 60+ games in a season has to have an effect on the team be it mental or physical, this includes the manager, we are not equipped to play this many games some where down the line the nucleus of the team breaks down and we become fragmented this has been evident in the past couple of months, to win at Swindon will not come from tactics but from pure heart and desire in simple terms, fighting spirit

Bladebri , i can remember Clough saying thats the reason we have accumulated a big squad to cope with all eventualities . I bet Bristol City is not far off the mark relating to the number of games .

Why have a big squad if the players are not found good enough to fit in to a supposed fixed system. Yes some players have had long term injuries ( Higdon , Wallace ) , but are they actually game changing players , with being injury prone it seems when we bought them.

It has to be down to the manager , or a curse on the lane , or the board , or the fans expecting too much (, after our near escapade with relegation , then the Eddie Howe rise up the league finishing 7th.) or we are work in progress .

Yes agree , that to win at Swindon , it will be with heart , desire and fighting spirit . Why has this been missing every time a player pulls the shirt on . If this had been the case for 80% of the season , we would not be even having this post , as we would have walked the league.

If players are not good enough to play in your system , don't buy them in the first place or don't wait until half the season has gone ( JTW) , before you go bonkers in buying half a team again , and then saying it takes time to bed them in.

Do your business early , and sort out early the players list you are after . If we had one , we would be sacking the Director of Football for incompetence.

Pro Clough but even i am flummoxed , and so desperately wanting a positive , winning formula and overall stability for this club as we all are BUT something is not right behind the scenes , which is evident on the field of play.

I do not have a answer , and the consensus at board level , may be neither does Clough . We will soon find out after Monday.

Stop being so bloody ridiculous

it would be far more sensible to kick it out for a throw-in

The nucleus of the team I was talking about is do the team had belief in them selves or the manager, and the fragmentation is evident due to players out of position even with the size of squad we have, the teams we have put out this season have beaten or matched better teams than Swindon, but on the flip side we have lost to worse, this must drive NC mad as it does us, yes we will see after Monday.⚽

REally good post....there is something definitely not right behind the scenes

The players aren't big enough, they aren't quick enough, they don't read the game well enough, they're not fit enough and they lack stamina and natural athleticism.
If you are small you'd better be very good. Ours are small and not very good.
