With McBurnie off to sunnier shores, it struck me that we are now left with nobody still at the club who's into double figures for senior goals for Sheffield United.

So I looked at it and all the players currently listed in our first team squad now share a grand total of 29 career goals for the Blades between them - coincidentally, the same number of Blades goals McBurnie has to his name individually. There are only 6 players still on our books who have ever scored a senior goal for us:
  • Anel Ahmedhodzic (9)
  • Jack Robinson (7)
  • Gustavo Hamer (5)
  • Rhian Brewster (4)
  • Will Osula (3)
  • Vinicius Souza (1)
Fully a third of those goals were by players we're aiming to sell - Souza, and Anel who is the squad's current all time top scorer (!!)

By contrast, players who've left us this summer (not counting expired loans) had 93 United goals between them:
  • Oli McBurnie (29)
  • Chris Basham (14)
  • Jayden Bogle (12)
  • Oliver Norwood (11)
  • John Egan (8)
  • George Baldock (6)
  • Ben Osborn (5)
  • Cameron Archer (4)
  • Daniel Jebbison (3)
  • Max Lowe (1)
Just think this is an incredible statistic that shows the scale of the rebuild underway. Don't get me wrong, there's definitely goals in some of these players we've signed, but in terms of goal threat we're starting pretty much from scratch.

Hi Stegosaurus here

Sign of a team in dead lumber.

McBurnine, Bogle, Norwood, Egan, Baldock, Osborn and Lowe are all solid top-half Championship players.

Archer I'll let slide since the move back to Villa was always on the cards anyway.

Yeah I have seen some people say we have had a good summer so far. I don't see that even if I like the Moore and O'Hare deals

Surely the window can only be judged once closed.
How many goals have been scored by players who have left doesn’t seem to be very relevant: what matters is the capability of the new squad to score goals in the coming season.

I fully expect most of the squad to get on the scoresheet in the coming season, just highlighted this as it's a good indicator of how little experience and continuity we have in the squad, especially as an attacking unit. Really is a total reset.

Hello Stegosaurus. Only one of those players will finish in the top half of the championship this season.

Absolutely the final judgement can't be made until the window closes ( and even then it will take a few weeks for a full judgment )but we are two and a bit weeks from the first game now and still looking pretty average to me and I have seen people saying we are building nicely. Not sold on that yet myself

Late run like Forest and ourselves previously ?

I absolutely love that Bash has got 14 goals from Center Half. What a fucking legend.

Hi Stegosaurus here

Agreed. I think Wednesday will have a good season and probably make the playoffs

The problem isn't just which players are brought in but also how long they take to bed in.

Just about every season has been a rebuild for us. The loans went back. That's about half a team. Last season we started to put a squad together without loanees on long contracts. But it still took 12 games to get going. In February we were wondering if our strikers could reach 20 goals between them. They finished on nearly 40 between them. Are turning into a decent strike partnership.

It will be interesting to see if Hamer manages to find a move and how a new squad will start the season compared to a more settled but only a feeder club.

It’s fine when you realise you have to replace them and it’s Sheffield United and we don’t do that.

We had a 16 goals a season championship striker and let him go through our fingers. Will cost us greatly.

Now we will see who comes in instead of Mcburnie. As it will probably be no one.

Take out Anal Souza and Hamer - at this level the squad is threadbare to score goals

I think we all understand (or should) that that the re-build is a big one.

Regarding the OP, i think a better stat to possibly prove the point more (or it might not), is to show the goals the players have scored divided by the seasons they have played for us.

Yes, its ok showing Lord Bashs goals, but he has been with the club a lot longer than most on the 'still here' list.

I totally agree its a big job on and we are crying out for goals, but in my opinion, the original post might have been more accurate if it was averaged to goals per season.

146 games - 26 goals and folk talk about him like he's Shearer! Time to move on

I can only remember 3 at best!

Basham Arriving (obviously)
Tapping in a nice move from half a yard v Derby
Think he got one in the 5-5 v Swindon

Struggling to remember the rest!!
