Say goodbye to Brooks

Wilder has just said that he does not want Brooks to leave and wants him to stay at our football club for a long time.
The next week will be interesting!
He is the sort going forward that we build a team around, he also mentioned jack and flekky in the same light.
Wilder is confident we have something going, let's hope our owners agree in not only supporting him with new players but making sure his best players do not leave. I am confident that if this were to be the case CW would not be far behind!

It's a bit naive to say we shouldn't sell our best players
When Liverpool, Man Utd and Spurs sell their best players.
Ferguson didn't walk out on Man Utd when Ronaldo was sold to Real Madrid.

If a team offers silly money Brooks will be gone. The problem is that PL clubs can afford to offer silly money.

I suppose the question is what valuation would they put on Brooks?
It's a bit like the Kyle Walker situation, he's done nothing yet, is very raw and is no where near PL standard but he has the potential to go very far.

What if a PL offered us £10 million and allowed him to stay here for a full season on loan.
Would you take it?

Think your wrong about this one Deadbeat the club know they have an exciting player on our hands ( just listen to Wilder inter interview ) He is a premiership quality player in the making and would fetch 5 million + now. We can easily double that and more given time,in the meantime let's enjoy him.Wilder says he's staying so unless some club offers mega bucks we can develop him ,. His value can only go up and up.
When does his contract run out? If it's at the end of this season then we're just going to have to hope he doesn't have his head turned by agents because if he does we're fucked.

I think he signed a new one earlier this year ( a three year one ) I think Whiteman has too

So we're a one man team now?

Fucked in terms of getting any substantial fee, as he will just sign for someone else on a free transfer.

But luckily it doesn't seem that his contract runs out anytime soon so that doesn't apply anyway

Stupid fuckin sleeper cell Pig, that's why.

Ignore the Murder Inc sleeper cells looking for bites.

Yes. And a Pig, as only a delusional pig could write such piffle.

These are your contributions to this thread. I'm sorry, but I never get all these "must be a pig" "fuck off to hillsborough" comments. If you disagree, and can't be arsed to back it up, can't you just say you disagree? I think maybe you'd be happy on one of the Facebook "banter" pages to be honest.

For what it's worth, I don't really agree with shiposwaistline post (although full disclosure I haven't seen tonight's game, yet-it's about 7am here and I've just got up). From what I've seen so far, he's an exciting player, who makes things happen, but needs time and patience and support to realize his potential. I think he'll get that best here.

Got to say no to any bids if we arent getting anyone else in. Looks a genuine point winning asset

We are getting someone else in. Just not quick enough for those with jerky knees who are, entirely predictable, out in force again.

Embarrassing, they are. Intelligent, they are not.

I find it strange the extent you seem to delight in slagging off your own fellow fans.

And if I have it right you're even on record as stating we are the worst in the country.

So maybe not fucked then :)

Lad has been unreal tonight, different gravy.

No doubt with everyone watching on sky he'll be gone before the end if the window now.

Hope we take nothing less than £7m judging by the insane fees at the moment.
Sadly tonight's put him right in the shop window more so with been on the box , this will be the acid test now of the board regard the clubs ambitions & if anything changed ?

Wilder always harks back to the amount of money our club had wasted and how we have not built from a position of strength, if we received silly money for our best players I am confident that he would not have a problem if they were sold assuming that the money was available for him to reinvest and subsequently build a club. We all know however ( CW included ) that this has very rarely previously been the case.
When did we last sell good players for good money and reinvest this into the team?

Adams, DCL?

Oooh! Another one ITK!

Okay Pinchy. Who's coming? Any deets?

We are all cap doffing bladey blade hoofwaffe lovers. :)

Adams, DCL?

Very true I was getting off on one. Agree wholeheartedly that these were good deals for the club. But what he basically said in his interview was that after six years in div one we needed to sell these players to,raise funds, he now sees it differently.
He is therefore I assume aware that he has funds to,strengthen without selling key players, if the owners release it in accordance with previous promises, or possibly it's all a game to make selling clubs believe that we are not cash rich in order to keep prices down.
All in all the message was support him in his choice of players and the agreed budget and he is confident we are onto something good

So we shouldn't play him in case any one spots him. Anyone calling for him to play must be a third columnist ?

29 scouts at the Walsall game says he was already in the shop window.

Never mind selling Brooks, Bert's looking forward to when pommpey's shore leave ends.

I'm NITFK, but I keep my eyes, ears and mind open, unusual as that is in S2. I believe we'll bring in multiple players. We have offers extant running into several million pounds. Kidnapping and bribery being illegal, however, there are no guarantees. We'll find out for sure in a week or so.

Many, of course, are dearly hoping nobody is coming and Brooks will be sold, so they can wear a self-satisfied smile and, as they love to do, vilify the club they claim to support, deploying the same tired clichés as a hundred times before.

Sat with a Leicester fan tonight who said that cant see Brookes staying with us beyond Xmas window - on tonights performance it will be this transfer window.
Reminds me of a less experienced Mahrez who they expect to leave so would be a perfect replacement !! Fucks me off but suppose this is what we expect these days

If there are offers for Brooks we must hold out for a lot of money, with a good number of additional amounts added subject to appearances, England caps, and a decent percentage of any sell on clause.

It annoys me that Maguire went for some £17m a couple of years after we sold him for less than £2m?

We are in the Championship! So it's ok for us to SELL! SELL! SELL! Players when clubs come knocking? Let's sell Sharpe, Freeman, Duff, Fleck, Coutts or whoever if it's a good price (whatever that is?) when other championship clubs are BUYING Players for 5, 10, 20 million.

I'm agenda free and see it like this. Every single player we have is unofficially for sale. It's the club's job to get our best players (particularly young players) on long contracts and sell them at the right time, for the right price. If they don't manage to do this they are in negligent, or worse, in dereliction of duty to the club. The performance of staff in this area should be monitored, just as we monitor the performance of playing staff. The only time when this arguably isn't the case, is when money has to come in to stop the club ceasing to exist. Football transfers, like any market, are a form of gambling. You could value Brooks at twenty million, and he could do his anterior cruciate ligament in the next game. It's up to our staff to understand the market and maximise assets. Hopefully then any money will help us substantially improve our squad, and in turn the status of our club.
Here are some quotes on young player sales from Wilder from the Guiseley post match press conference that went under the radar.
On Brooks: “We’d like to keep hold of our younger players now,” said Wilder. “We’d like to keep hold of David Brooks and I do believe he will get an opportunity [to play first team football]. It was difficult last year because [of] the environment of playing in League One for young players because we needed, more than at possibly anytime in our careers, results on a consistent basis to get out of the division.”

On Dominic Calvert Lewin: “We’re in a better position and I’m possibly contradicting myself now, but maybe if we’d kept hold of the likes of, or tried a little bit harder to keep hold of the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and maybe one or two of the others [we’d benefit now that we’re] in the Championship. So hopefully we can do that now.”

On difficulty of keeping [young] players generally, and United's spending power: “It’s the toughest part of the job, getting players in. We feel we did quite well with our recruitment last year. We’re maybe in a different situation to half the teams in the Championship in terms of the amount of money that’s getting spent. It’s difficult, nobody wants their best players to go and if they do it has to come at a price,
It is really difficult to keep hold of young players, even in the Championship when their heads get turned, agents are in their ear and the big boys come knocking. That’s just a fact of life.”

Sell him and loan him back for the season is an option we could look at. His agent will be being tapped up, we all know this goes off, If a Prem club offers him £20k a week which is chicken feed for them, he will want to go.

Let's get a decent deal for him.

Right now we have bigger things to think about, mainly the lack of decent options up front.

Have to say mate, unless a club is on its knees financially then I really hate the whole sell and loan back option.

You pay me 3m. I continue to give him game time as I was going to do anyway and he does well as expected. End of season he's worth 6m.

Good for you. Shit for me. Why don't I just keep him and have an asset worth 6m at the end of the season with even more potential to increase?

From the lad's point of view, I'm pretty sure Everton's U23s or Leicester's U23s don't play at the same level as the Championship.

What would we do with the money? Perhaps go out and buy an exciting young player with potential whose value will increase with exposure?!

United have played the long game well with Brooks. Got him as a tiny teenager who has now shot up in height which was the one thing which put clubs off him perhaps. Time to get the best out of him on the field. His emergence is a real plus and now nobody talks of missing out on Holmes anymore.
