We end this utterly shambolic affair with a manager with no professional experience and all the muppets clap until they hands bleed. Typical dee dar's accepting ........ no embracing mediocrity. "It'll be reit".

McCabe embarassed the club, every fooker turns us down and then we appoint a reserve coach. Yet everyone is going mental with positivity. We have all forgot pretty quickly that our own highly related academy coach was not good enough for the position a few years ago. But the step up should be fine for Weir, look at how Morgs stepped up. To my naked eye, Morgs and Weir's CV's look pretty damn similar. However a token interview for a Prem managers job and Weir is the dogs bollocks.

I bet King Kev is having a right laugh at all the clown on here. Chuck a few names of terrible prospects into the hat (Page, Appelton, Downes etc) and all of a sudden a two hat, know nowt looks like a good choice. Paper over the cracks of a bunch of limited and unconvincing managers (McCall, Southgate, that Aussie guy and Robinson) not wanting to touch us with a barge pole.

I am sure that Weir was pretty cheap though. Also I would imagine he agreed to cutting the wage bill 300% and will put up no complaints when Maguire and Long are sold off. As for promotion. Ha! Peterborough, Wolves and Bristol C will be miles better than us. You can chuck Brentford into that mix too and maybe Swindon.

Weir fooked.

Partly agree there but who could we have got? Especially if the McCall's of this world are turning us down. Get Pemberton in as manager?

David Moyes: unspectacular playing career (one Scottish Championship medal) with Celtic, Cambridge, Shrewsbury, Dunfermline, Hamilton and Preson. No Scottish caps. Appointed manager at Preston in early 1998 aged 35 with the Nob Enders in the bottom four of the 2nd Division. Saved them from relegation to the fourth tier in 1997-98, lost in the play-offs in 1998-99 and won the 2nd Division title in 1999-2000. Widely regarded to have done a fantastic job at Everton and is now Manchester United manager - arguably the biggest football management job in the country.

David Weir seems to have a similar personality to Moyes but played at a much higher level for much longer. If he's half the manager Moyes has turned out to be then we're onto a winner.

That said, this is probably just another of your infamous wind ups which I've fallen for...

What does David Moyes' playing career have to do with David Weir being a good manager? I concede his managerial career is of marginal relevance.

Nice one Olly. That'll stir it up a bit. Might even get a head explosion or two out of it.

Talking of clap. It's like we thought we'd got AIDS, only to find it's turned out to be Herpes and there may well be a cure after all. A bit of cream (or a bit of money to play with) and we'll be shagging again like nobodies business come October.

Is it though?

Didn't Leeds try for years to re-invent Revies "team of cunts" by trying them all out in the managers chair? Including a couple of Scots to boot.

How many players who played for Busby or Shankly or Clough or Ferguson have gone on to win trophies? Whether Weir goes on to become great or not very good won't have a deal to do with who he's played for in the end.

I'm happy he's got the job, mainly because it gets away from any Bladey Bladeness, but I'm not rushing out with barrow loads of cash to get a bet on for next season. He's still got McCabe to contend with after all.

Two points:

1) I'd like to see your evidence that we offered the job to anybody other than David Weir.
2) He agreed to cutting the wage bill 300%?? So the players are going to start paying the club? Blimey, why didn't we think of that sooner?

I think the key word here Ollessendro, is 'perspective.

Had we been in a higher league or had we not just had two shite seasons here in L1 I would be disappointed and somewhat worried at the appointment.

The Managerial CV's of Morgan and Weir are similar, mainly due to the fact that both has managed reserve/ U21 sides at their prospective clubs.

But I'm slightly upbeat with the move in principle because:

- Weir is fresh into the club. He will be open minded to the team.
- Weirs experience comes at international level, Premier League and Scottish Premier.*
- Weir has been around a number of clubs, he'll have good contacts and has also worked with developing players.
- from the outside he looks a cool, calm, level headed guy

* I admit his lack of L1 experience might be a shock to him

It'll be interesting to see his back room staff come together, but it's a step in the right direction for me and yes it's a lot more positive than some of the rumoured managers with shite experience.

We'll see how he's doing by Xmas.

I was making the point that David Moyes' background is similar to Weir's and hoping that would extrapolate into a decent managerial career for Weir.

They say that silence speaks volumes but sometimes what is actually said speaks more. I would suggest that the number and calibre of people coming out and congratulating Weir would indicate a man well respected and believed to have a bright future.

I agree with much of what you say and I too was against his appointment.
However, he's our manager now and doesn't deserve to be called a "twat and a know nowt" before he's even started.
Can Blades fans at least wait until he's given us several successful years of loyal service before we start on the personal abuse and name calling. Like with Bassett and Warnock (and now Morgan) ;)

Overall I'm not sure we can call Morgan's career here a success, after all his relegations outnumber his promotions.

Morgan was injured for most of the last relegation campaign. We might not have been relegated if he hadn't got injured.
A player who cost us nothing, made 247 appearances, captained us to promotion and didn't look out of place in The Premiership.
I certainly think we can call his playing career a success. If only all our players would fail so badly.

All that shite I read thru to get to that pun!!

'Love United, hate Wilson, adore inability, accept mediocrity, defend the indefensible, drink lager ..... hoof'
By the way your signature needs updating.......... Hate Weir already ??

Has the fact that a few people have responded to this thread brought you off ;)

It was his mistake against 'Boro that set us on that sorry path...

Morgan played well for us but when at the end of your time at a Club you're a league lower than when you started you'd be hard pressed to call it an unqualified success.

I'm reserving my judgement on DW II until I see what Big M... er Little..... er Princess Anne's Dog thinks about him....
He thinks he'll be a good manager, but will have nothing to work with and no money to buy anyone in. Pretty much spot on I'd say. :)

I think Ollessendro 's head is still mashed from the exertion he put in cycling up a couple of titchy hills at the weekend :).

There's plenty of managers that have been successful with their first clubs. Law of averages says one of em's got to manage us at one point.....

I can't work out whether this is Olle's first wind up of the new season, or his last wind up of the old season.

Elsewhere.
Man leaves bike on train again and blames newly employed guard who started his new job five minutes ago.

Good point MOD. I'm still going with last season as I consider the releasing of the fixtures as the cut-off point. So technically, in my system, there's still a week for the lad to get another one or two in.
