Will believe it when I see it but expect this to run to Friday.

lots of moving part on a transfer this size... not to mention the spectre of other clubs clearly lurking
Not to mention all our transfers are dragged out more than Lily Savage

Even if we don’t end up signing the player it looks pretty clear that we at least have an offer in for him.

What does it tell us about the finances of the club under the Prince?

I don’t think it means that he’s financing the deal himself. He doesn’t have the money, as far we know. And it doesn’t mean he’s found outside investment, as we would have heard about it before now.

I think it’s clearly the TV money, either this year’s or a loan secured against next year’s. I think it also means the Prince is willing to back Wilder, is brave enough to make some risky moves, and ambitious enough to build the profile of the club through a statement signing. The latter might actually be part of his plan to attract outside investment going forward.

I'm old enough to remember the names, but not old enough to have really appreciated them at the time. I definitely remember Dad buying me a Viking hat , and standing on the Kop and there just being a sea of 'em!
I remember seeing Viking hordes at an away match at Charlton - some time ago (😔)

The fact that a few hours ago the player that we are heavily linked with / favourites to sign was incorrectly identified attending Manchester United’s training ground for a medical and their fans were happy about it all over the internet just shows how far far we’ve come. The ambition shown by Wilder and the board to be in discussions with a player of this calibre is incredible. Whether it comes off or not, what a time to be a blade.

Where’s that Kleenex gone?

You know you've got your hopes up far too much when you keep cycling between tabs of Belgian Twitter feeds, the Genk forum and this thread. 🙈 Got to love the January window...

This signing just isn't going to happen.
His agent will be loving the media attention this has brought about and his client will soon be offered various other deals which will probably provide them both with far greater financial gain than currently being offered by United (not that it should always be about the money of course).
That's just the way I see this going unfortunately.
Really hope I'm wrong and that he turns out to be that extra bit of quality we require in midfield (a better, younger, more energetic version of a 'Kevin Mcdonald' type) but like I say . . . . . . . . . . . we'll see eh?

Now Man U look like missing out to Barcelona for Bruno Fernandes! 😆

Tragic.

Let's hope they don't actually go for Berge now...
Friend in work (has someone ITK at Manure) mentioned Bruno is wrapped up - Photoshoot to be done, with announcement to come tomorrow. don't hold me to it though but he was dead dead certain.

Definitely has a touch of the Maupay's about it.

Got to say never heard of the lad but been reading up on him and he sounds quite a prospect, if you believe all the rumours everyone and their grandma are after him. Even if we don't get him CW and United are showing their intent that they mean business and are not just on a "day trip" to PL.

Article says to include add ons, so you'd think something like £17m - £22m upfront.

Things are, understandably, moving at a fast pace. No longer seeking the £500K bargains, by our standards the deals we're attempting to commit to are, at times, eye-watering, but it's all relative and no doubt it won't be long before we break any existing transfer fee by another £5-10 million. This is what it takes to establish ourselves at the top table, so well done the club for showing some ambition. Even if there's a last minute hitch, it at least reveals we're serious in our attempts to get better under Wilder.

Looks like some Manc has already amended his Wikipedia page. Talk about arrogance

As your resident Belgian, I've just logged on to the main KRC Genk forum (they were my local club before I moved to the UK) and I can confirm that they're wetting themselves just as much as we are about the whole Man Utd development-that-never-was 😅

Here's a selection of views from their side (sorry Roy, coming to this country, taking your jobs and all that...):

"If we want more than 20 mil for him, we'll have to sell him to a team in the Premier League. Italian or Spanish clubs aren't able/willing to put down that kind of money. Let him go to Sheffield, they're doing great in the league and he can showcase himself to the bigger clubs. It's better to play a top game every week in the Premier League than to stay and play a load of semi-professional games in Playoff 2*"
(*the second half of the Belgian season - don't even ask me to explain!)

"I don't think Sheff Utd are going to have any sleepless nights about a sell-on clause. They'll buy him for 20 and sell him for 60. The lad's on his way out - guaranteed!"

"What's the point of staying here from his perspective? If he goes to Sheffield, he can settle in for the rest of the season and become their key player next season."

"Sheffield, who'd have thought it. Though they are doing well at the moment."

"It's a perfectly logical move from his point of view. Personally, I thought he deserved better than Sheffield though..."

(Mentions of 'Sheffield' sans 'United' all poster's own 🙄)

There also seem to be a few people considering going to Genk's 14:30 training session today to see if Berge's actually still physically there. Cue another Twitstorm if it turns out he's not!
Keep us updated! ⚔

I want this wrapped up before Footy Heaven tonight.

I want it to drag on until Friday, the announcement of his signing live on Sky Sports at 11.59. Cameras cut to Shirecliffe to see a bleary eyed Wilder, Berge & Knill absolutely paraletic from a 3 day bender they've been on holding a case of Peroni above their heads.

He will have successfully passed the Stearman Test.

It will take at least two days for them to do the obligatory promo vid for social media.
If this comes off I expect the promo vid to include a viking longship down the Don, pillaging Hillsborough en route (including a comedy 2 minutes rummaging round the empty trophy cabinet) before disembarkling at Ponds Forge and marauding through town downing flagons of mead in every hostelry before planting his flag in the Bramall Lane centre circle and hurling a flaming spear into the kop.
