Yep. Spent loads of time in Lillehammer years! Was planning to go to Tromso for my 40th but Mrs M vetoed it!

Almost went for my 30th too. Instead, going to do Garden Route South Africa.

Tromso (& Norway generally) is still very high on my travel list. Bergen Blade will be getting PMd when the day comes.

Interesting that West Ham appear to be progressing with another tall (6'4") defensive midfielder in Tomas Soucek from Slavia Prague.

That just leaves Ajax, Napoli and Liverpool that Utd are up against then :-)

An unwarranted assumption. There are several posters on the forum--some of whom are active in this thread--who follow Belgian football pretty closely, given that it's widely seen as one of the most exciting production lines for young talent in Europe.

For what it's worth, I'm not one of the people who follows Belgian football closely, but even I had heard plenty about Berge before this.
I must admit that despite living in Belgium for over 20 years I really can’t get into the footy...I’m a blade, as was my dad and his before him. Watching other teams just doesn’t do it for me.

Anyway, as an old school pessimist I cannot believe we are going to get this done...but, it’s all over the media here and, for what it’s worth, my mates think it’s genuine. The lad is really highly rated, proper baller.

It’s not happening is it?

A lot on here about ability but what about the bloke? I’ve known a lot of Norwegians, and they were all proper blokes, drank lots of beer and aquavit and up at work at 8. (We had a problem once in June when we forgot that it didn’t get dark!)

But if we fork out all of Princie’s harem fund and the guy turns up using scent and being Billy BB in the dressing room I can’t see it going down well with Irn Bru and the Scouse Mafia. Still I guess Tufty’s interview involves 12 pints and a discussion on Sheffield haircuts!

Problem with all this is that after 50 years of false dawns I had settled for low level expectations, and I’m getting too old to cope with another boot in the dream factory.

Come on Sander, Make my Day!

You got any links to all the Belgium media hype maninblack?

As much as anything he'd just be a great player to watch.

There's something about those tall, elegant midfielders that is highly arousing....

Hopefully without the 3rd party ownership problems.

Genk fan:

"This guy played amazingly so far in the CL, and is our best player this season. He has lots of experience already despite being 21 and he has so much talent and potential. Very tall and strong but surprisingly fast and agile. This season, he has become even better by becoming more of a box-to-box. He has it all to make it in a top league at a top club."

"He has played in the EL twice, once reaching the quarter finals, is in the Norwegian starting XI, champions of Belgium and now in the CL and he's only 21! I'm glad he's still here and I hope he can improve more this season and show Europe why he's such a special player!".

But can he do it on a wet Tuesday night in Sheffield???
He should be alright Rog. Not known for being nesh them Belgians. They get plenty of cold wet weather there. He’ll also like Sheffield because it’s got plenty of pubs selling strong Belgian beer. He might struggle to find a chip shop that does mayonnaise and ketchup though!
