Outgoing? SANDER BERGE ON WAY OUT ?

I don’t think he’ll leave this summer for a few reasons.

1. I don’t think the club are desperate for the cash. I think a lot of 2+2=5 has been done to assume we need to make up the £40 m our income has fallen by. The prince said we were not desperate to sell anyone and he wanted to keep the core of the squad together. Hence it’s release clause or nothing.

I think the club saw a pretty profit on him in a couple years time. It’s the first time they’ve bought a decent ‘name’ in from Europe. They obviously worked very hard to make it happen and clearly saw him leaving for big money to a top club in the future. The club will still hope to realise that big profit onw

2. I don’t think anyone is going to pay £35 million for him. That’s not because he isn’t very good. He is. He’s unbelievably talented and has a good reputation across Europe. But he’s struggled with a serious injury and has had a few niggles since returning which suggests this season may not go totally smooth for him. He also got shoehorned into a struggling team in a role that he is not used to, in a new league and in a new country. We have not seen the best of him so that means his suitors haven’t seen the best of him for a good 18 months either.

- it would probably be the best thing for him to play for us until at least January to prove his fitness. That way if he was to leave he’ll probably get a better move than he would this summer.

I’ve no doubt he sees his future way above the championship. He’s better than that. But I also don’t think he’ll throw his toys out he pram. I think he’ll get his head down and do his talking on the pitch. It would look better for him to absolutely destroy the championship and prove his fitness / ability in this country rather than Chuck his toys out and leave under a cloud.

It makes you wonder why clubs sell any players. They should hold onto them all, go up, and collect £100m +.

:)

After that performance our stance should 100% be pay the £35m release clause or else any other offer will not even be considered

Don’t think THAT performance against a poor div1 side is enough to convince someone to stump up 35M
Yes he was miles in front of everyone else class but 35M
Not yet

He comes across as a very nice, level headed young man, who is influenced by strong family ties as much as what his agent might be telling him.
Imagine if you, as a Brit, had been stuck in lockdown alone last year in Norway?
He is the kind of bloke who would probably overtrain by himself during that time. The club have played a good hand in his case, allowing him some time at home with family and friends, while he rehabilitates from injury in a more conducive atmosphere than he would have got, alone in Sheffield.
I’m betting his pal Egan missed him more than we did in close season.
I really hope he stays.

If the reporting that Roma can’t afford xhaka and arsenal are interested in zakaria is true then that surely signals an end to their interest in berge

He was a real joy to watch last night and he was only in second gear.

For any club looking, it really is a case of pay up or piss off.

Perhaps clubs being careful with their cash in a post-Covid environment will work to our advantage. Clubs who might have previously thought nothing of chucking £25m our way for Sander's services are now having to watch what their spending after 18 months of no income.

Can't shake the feeling that a buying club has asked for assurances on his fitness and it was agreed to see if he can make it through 45 mins without pulling up/aggravating anything.

I'm probably wrong but that was my first thought when I saw he'd been subbed at half time.

I don't think that's the reason personally. He's coming back from a pretty bad injury, rather he's eased in imo.

May well be. Doubt the club would have been hyping his return on the socials if he was off in a week or two, but stranger things have happened.

Essentially, I daren't get my hopes up

Nahhh a buying club would use a far more scientific approach to spending £35 million not 45 mins of park football. He’d be poked, prodded and put through his paces properly by a medial team.

he’s hardly played any football and has missed the start of preseason to go home. They’re easing him in and taking the sensible approach.

Not for me. They all did things.

I've seen enough of Berge to know he is going to be a top, top player.

Loads on here will be like - "why didn't he ever play like that for us?" when he leaves and becomes great.

The thing is, he actually does this stuff already, but has struggled in a relegation, injury hit side that has been off the pace and off-form for too long. We'll see just how good he is if he stays this season because we will have so much more of the ball.

If he plays against Norwich then I think we may have reason to believe he's in our plans for the season. Would expect him to only play 45 mins after returning from hols and injury.

Clear from the match that he will be a class above anyone else in the Championship.

That’s all in the realm of speculation.

I thought he'd gone off because of the knock he'd taken just before half time but that really is just a guess on my part. He didn't seem to be moving around as easily after that.

Slav is apparently happy with Berge and Ramsdale, having spoken to them both and watched their first 45 minutes under him.
Slav does not want to sell either player, but that decision now rests with the club.
