In this article on Liverpool's interest in Bellingham:

"Currently, they are going through a bad run of injuries in midfield and, along with the intended Sander Berge (Sheffield United player), they want to build Anfield's midfield with two new future stars."

Well if it is to be Liverpool, add at least 5m on to whatever we'd accept from anyone else

Or I wonder if they'd offer to forfeit any possible remaining payments from us for Brewster

Doesn't sound like hecky has been asked about berge today unless they were told he wouldn't be discussed

This is the bit of the transfer window I hate the most. All the obscure football blogs and "news" sites are all trying to harvest as many clicks as possible before the transfer window closes and their traffic drops off a cliff. So they start trading speculative stories about every last player going and these players conveniently are almost always going to one of the teams with armies of indignant plastic fans. They just cite each other as sources or find a foreign language story they'll willfully mistranslate.

Then newspapers get hold of it and regurgitate the same crap.

And then when a nailed on transfer miraculously never materialises, they start hawking the same player round every other big team they can think of. It tends to feel in each story a little bit like the little ol' champ club is duty bound to just hand over the player to whoever summons him, as if they nicked him and shouldn't have them in the first place. Fucks me right off.

The post United have just put on Facebook The Blades are back at home tomorrow has 4 photos on with 13 players featured some on twice but interestingly Berge isn't one of them.

I really can't see Liverpool being seriously in for him unless he's way down on their new midfielder list and all others don't happen.

In the very unlikely event he does end up there, I'm really not sure he's good enough for that level, particularly in a more defensive midfield role.

I know it's all doom and gloom in here, but isn't it nice to be linked with Napoli, Inter and Liverpool for our best player instead of worrying if Birmingham or Brighton are going to have our pants down at 1.5m for them instead.

It's the little things for me... and luckily my missus.

Wonder if they have left him out so that any potential scouts there tomorrow have had a waisted journey. Can only hope

That is utterly ridiculous. Anyone interested in signing him won’t be doing so based on his performance against Reading tomorrow.

Edit: Just to be clear. The suggestion is ridiculous. Heckingbottom isn’t daft enough to leave him out for that reason.

If he is out tomorrow it can only be for two reasons... Someone has offered a fee that's acceptable to us and he's been allowed to talk to them, in which case he's played his last game for us because let's face it wages are not going to be a problem if you are offering the kind of money United want for him.
The only other explanation is he's injured.
I think its the only time I'm wishing the Shirecliffe sniper has actually struck again.

Liverpool in for Caicedo of Brighton apparently, it's the last few days of the window and with so many injuries Liverpool are going to be linked with many midfielders. It's just journalists picking any name out they can.

Unfortunately this could be the issue. The transfer domino effect.

FWIW, Berge would thrive at Liverpool. Players always play better when surrounded by better players. He will have a decent career away from United at some point.
His style of play though is more suited to Arsenal, Tottenham and Leicester etc.

If you watch Liverpool closely, a LOT of their play is a ball over the defence line out to Salah or Diaz. I'm not saying they're a long ball side because that is disrespectful, but they don't build up the play as much as they other teams do. They are very direct with their passing. Berge doesn't play passes like that.

He can’t head, can’t tackle anyone remotely quick or skillful and only occasionally looks too good for the Championship.

He isn’t good enough to play for Liverpool.

I rate Berge but find the link to Liverpool a little hard to see.

But still think he could end up leaving of course.
Berge has found himself in a unique position at the minute in that we rate him and don't want to let him go for at the very least less than what we paid, or even the release clause (It seems).
Other clubs rate him but don't want to bid higher than about 12-15m up front it would seem and we don't want to lose him for that.

It perhaps suggests that there is still the thinking the potential is there and he is showing it too. But perhaps justifying that 22m + price tag the evidence might not be there just yet.

Not sure this is the best move for him personally. If they saw him as a first team player they would have moved for him earlier. He will end up being another Ben Davies.
