I've got to pick you up on that. Mousset is a far better finisher than McBurnie on current evidence but in terms of overall play for the team McBurnie is miles ahead. Mousset is a goalscorer and not much more; McBurnie's closing down from the front is why he's ahead of Mousset in Wilder's pecking order. That, and the fact that Mousset seems to be able to last 45 minutes tops.

Agree - on the basis of the last two games my first choice front two are the McBoys, with Mousse and Sharpe on the bench.

We've had to sign players we believe we can improve and develop. There's two options for a side that was in our position at the start of the season and in Jan: you buy prospects you hope can grow into the Prem, or you take those in the twilight of their career that you hope can still give you a few good games (signing Jags, or the way we brought in Stearman in the Championship). We can't go out and buy ready made Premier League quality players. And even if we could that might be alright for survival, but we've somehow ended up chasing the top six which means even average Prem players might not be immediate improvements.

The odd sign has been there with Berge that Wilder was on to something. Even last night he was a bit sloppy with possession at times, and I suspect it's going to be a long term frustration watching a player of his build somehow be so weak in the air, but his touch and finish for the goal was great, and that little bit of play for the assist was top draw.

I don't want to go over the top about him because a weak performance at the weekend will see some with knives out again. It's enough to say he's showing all the right qualities and if he can find the consistency he'll be a hell of a player. That might take time though and we have to trust that if our coaching staff can turn Lundstram into the player they have that they ought to be able to do it with Berge.

Which is ridiculous in itself. It's not like those numbskulls berating Berge and McBurnie have funded their purchases directly.

Berge has shown he's a quality footballer since the Palace game. Any shortfalls have been down to learning a new position in a new team - he's not going to immediately be on the same wavelength as his teammates and this United side under Wilder is so well drilled that it's very difficult for a new signing to come straight in at full tilt.

Sander's skill on the third goal reminded me of Jamie Murphy (against Spurs) rounding the defender and pulling back for Che Adams in the league cup semi final.

Aye. Infuriating isn't it. Judging by McBurnie's interview the lads regularly read the forums. Why on earth people want to put out own players down and damage their confidence is beyond me.

Going back many years, I remember a young lad from Watford really struggled for his first few games. He was nearly booed out of the Lane. Turned out to arguably be our best ever midfield player, a guy called Tony Currie. Could he have a rival for that title in the coming years? We will see.

Never knew he was booed by our fans apart from when he scored twice for L**ds against us in the League Cup in 1978. I started going regular in 1970 and TC was always loved by the fans. He was only 18 when he made his debut for us and scored against Spurs. He also scored in the 2-1 win at Anfield and again against Liverpool at home, scored at Burnley. 4 goals in 13 first division matches in 1967-68.

It was slightly ‘scuffed’ in that it wasn’t a totally clean strike. What he did though was concentrate on placement and accuracy. Which are the right things to concentrate on.

Those of us who were fortunate enough to be there on that magical night when TC made his debut as an 18 year old knew that we had witnessed something very special . I distinctly remember going back to my local and telling everyone who cared to listen that I had just seen the best young player since I saw Dennis Law as a youngster , and his subsequent performances were of a similar quality .

As to your suggestion that he was "almost booed out of the Lane" , I cannot think of anything further from the truth . He was almost universally adored by the fans right from the start and never once in all the times I saw him play , both home and away , did I ever hear a Blades fan boo him .

Agree.....I‘ve spoke to several uncles asking at what stage did our fans realise TC was special.
They all say that even on his debut....you could see he was as a very special special talent....

I think it's difficult to compare due to the era's. Currie came into 11 v 11 football against players who still drank and smoked a lot. Berge has come from a much less frantic Belgian league against teams with 18 super fit machines. The 7 on some teams bench could waltz round any 60 s players for 90 minutes.
Players have diet coaches specialist chefs . And train to a level so high now there's no comparison.

Berge has the skills but had to get up to the fitness level to compete.
I saw every game Currie played for us he was special. Whether he would have trained like today's players to compete I'm not so sure. Players could play off the cuff then
