The clowns at United probably think they'll get plenty of opportunities to sign this sort of player for less money don't they!

Well we've already signed "this sort of player" on more money, so maybe they are looking to strengthen other areas?

What makes you say that us and Wigan are the only two clubs that could attract him?

Wages, clubs stature and set up.

I know that we dont always believe it, and cant see it from the other side. But we are still a big pull for players.

Just look at John Brayford, would he have signed for Clough had he been Gillingham manager? I bet not.

Good point, don't disagree, Burton have two games in hand over Gillingham, Walsall have one game in hand over Gillingham, so I guess anything could happen.

What, a young, strong, aggressive, technically good leader with good resale value? Who?

Morsy's the sort of player who could play alongside a defensive midfielder or as the defensive midfielder anyway. Basham would move to the back if we signed him assuming Hammond must play to justify the wages we'll be paying him.

It's a chance to sign a key spine player and we should take it.

Defensive midfielder e.g. Hammond who is on decent money. So with that investment, why would we be looking for another defensive midfielder given that we also have Basham.

It's about priorities for me, if we had already sign a central defender and maybe another striker and winger, then yeah sign him but until we have improved in our weakest areas, we shouldn't be signing nice to haves.

HRH and McCabe will be to busy arguing amongst themselves (if the rumours are to be believed) to see the solution

Because he's considerably better than both of them. And he scores goals, which none of ours do. Hammond's only on loan too, and with a bit of luck won't sign permanently. It would be a signing with an eye on the future as well as the present - but now will be our only chance to sign him.

Sometimes you've got to take a chance to sign a quality player regardless of priorities, especially if it'll be a rock solid investment, you see clubs doing it all the time. I think this is one of those instances. Even more so if we're struggling to find the right players in the main priority areas.

From Soccerbase - Hammond 0.09 Goals per game and Morsy 0.06 Goals per game, so don't know where your getting it from that he scores goals.

We should be signing younger players but why not in positions which we need improving now? If it was Dan Burn we were missing out on then I wouldn't be happy cause we desperately need a new central defender. But Morsy, is he really a player that we can't miss out on? I find it hard to believe he is that good cause Championship clubs would be sniffing round if he was.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't be against signing Morsy, it's just this attitude that United are idiots if we don't sign him. Just seems like any excuse to knock the club.

Championship clubs are reportedly interested in him - but seemingly not enough to make him out of our reach.

Look how many goals Morsy has scored this season (about 5), look how many Hammond's scored this season (1), and then consider a huge chunk of Hammond's goals were penalties when he was at Brighton.

As I suggested, the available players in the priority positions may not be of the same profile and quality.

I think he is a player we really shouldn't be missing out on because he's exactly the sort we should be signing, is available for a fraction of his value, would immediately become an asset and is right under our noses at Chesterfield. Missing opportunities to sign players like this is why we're totally shit.

I cant see Morsy coming to us if Championship clubs are sniffing.

The real trick - which is what we fail at - is getting these players before they are at "go for big money/higher up the leagues" stage. This is something we havent ever got to grips with since we fell into Division Three - but is essential.

I told you the website to look on and you still didn't bother to look! Morsy has 4 goals this season, 2 last season and 2 the season before. In all competitions for Chesterfield he has scored a grand total of 8 goals in 117 matches (all starts by the way) or 0.068 goals per game. Do you still stand by the statement that he scores goals?

To be honest I'm not really going to trust your opinion on a player when a few minutes of internet research proves your making incorrect statements about him.

The most recent season is the most relevant, especially with younger players. And this season he's scored 4 and is on course for 7/8. Without penalties. That's good for a central midfielder, especially a defensive one. By our midfielders' standards it's incredible.
Feel free to totally disregard everything I say about him on the basis of statement interpretation and being one goal out! Even if everyone who's seen him play says the same things.

You don't often see the words "posh" and "Medway towns" in the same sentence.

What's Morsy's record on assists, as he's not a prolific scorer from the info already shown?
What's his appearance stats, his injury details, his disciplinary record?
These we can see, as supporters.
Just because a rival club in the same Division is interested, does it mean we should be too?

Obviously. If you have an agenda

That depends if they're a good player of the right profile and are affordable.

That's one of my agendas you see, wanting us to sign good players.

I can only go on what I have seen of him in person, and I thought he was their best player, a play maker who made things happen.

The most recent season is the most relevant is it, well Basham is only one goal behind on 3 goals, so can we now say Basham "scores goals"?

So a player on 4 goals in 30 matches is incredible compared to Basham 3 in 32? Seriously when your in a hole stop digging!

Other posters have given decent reasons why we should sign Morsy, you on the other hand haven't got a clue about how good he is and are just using him as a stick to beat United with.

Morsy as ran all 3 games he's played against us in the last 16 months. Doesn't take much to see that he is a quality player and the type we should be going for

More of a Glyn Hodges than a Nick Montgomery?

More skill than Monty and can (or at least could) tackle like him. If anything, he was spraying the ball around more like Leon Brittan when he played for us.

I've given decent reasons why we should sign Morsy or are you ignoring them now you've convinced yourself my primary objective is to slate poor little United?

Basham is older than Morsy, and beyond that look at the sort of goals Morsy has scored. He's got a shot on him. Basham hasn't. And are you sure Basham hasn't got two this season - are they counting the Edgar goal/own goal at Colchester?
