Incoming? Sam Morsy

Out of interest, have the people suggesting Morsy seen him play regularly, or is this a case of Hammond again, where everyone thought he'd solve all our issues in midfield? Not a pop at those suggesting him, just genuinely curious.

Seen him play against us and been impressed every time. He's a leader, always seems to want the ball, quick, tenacious and local. Makes no sense to NOT sign him,

He's everything we need. Young, strong, robust, technically good, scores goals, has a strong mentality and is a leader.

But I suppose we'll make 200k less profit when we sell him for £1m+, so signing him doesn't make any sense.

It isn't a majority, fine.

Regards the rest, if everyone relied on that level of accuracy for evidence of opinions, nobody would have any posts to their name. It's impossible to know those details, unless you're involved with the club in one way or another.

Oh and do not "do not" me either, please.

I suppose given the lack of specific knowledge we all have, a better way to post might be along the lines of "I like the look of this player, I expect he wouldn't cost much ....." or " Given where we got him from and some of the reporter figures, despite him doing well, I wonder if we might have got better value for money elsewhere" rather than "bad signing by Adkins" "we're paying him too much" and "the majority of his goals are penalties".

So you've seen him twice a season for 3 season?

Find it difficult to be outraged if he's not a player on our radar.

I know very little about him, he's generally done well against us when I've seen him but the same can be said for a lot of players.

For people that don't think Morsy is a good player at this level, get a grip. He is miles better than anything we have for that position and people that are saying we don't need him or he isn't good enough are getting their excuses out early for when we don't sign a player on the up.

Hammond is not what we want, Morsy is and the price differential between the two makes it a no brainer that we should get Morsy.

And if we're not after him then i want to know the fuck why.

Also, if we sign him well done to the board :D

Yes, thats more than enough to have an opinion on a player. Seeing him boss the game against us twice last season in paticular.

If he wasn't that good there wouldn't be anyone after him...

Plenty of players have had two good games against us, but you cant make a judgement on them as a potential signing.

Im not saying Morsy isn't a good player, but seeing him twice in 3 seasons isn't a comprehensive scouting report.

Maybe not comprehensive but it's plenty of time to gain an opinion...

I have no doubt at all he is better than what we have.

But people are putting him in the category of must sign, mugs if we let him go elsewhere for £200k etc

I'd like to think that opinion is based on seeing him player more than twice a season, I'm sure Higdon has had a couple of decent games a season!

Some people need talent to smack them right in the face before they spot it. As I say though, most of it is just looking for excuses as to why we don't normally sign up and coming players as it's clear as day he's better than what we have. They might yet surprise us and sign him, will the same people then come on here and say he's not good enough and we shouldn't have signed him? I fucking hope they wouldn't.

I have seen him play live 6 times and seen him quite a lot on t.v and I must say I'm really impressed, not only that, I know loads of Chesterfield fans who will be gutted if he went, that tells me all i need to know, mate. 200k would be a snip.

It's priorities thou isn't it especially as we don't appear to be flush with cash for signings. He may or may not be good enough but is he what we need at the moment?. Surely a new centre half, target man and left sided midfielder (Dane Whitehouse type) should top the list

This is where opinions can certainly differ but I do get what you're saying. I think a CB and a CM are both priority, the board have also indicated money wasn't the problem but the size of the squad was, wages needing to be reduced due to the leagues financial implications being the main factor not actually the transfer fees themselves. We need someone exactly like him, no doubt about it.

See that is fair enough, I respect your opinion on him. I haven't personally haven't seen him enough to form my own opinion.

My problem is when you've got danny saying he's only seen him play twice a season against us and that it "Makes no sense to NOT sign him". That is just plain ridiculous if you ask me.

Get what you're saying but sometimes a certain individual, be it Danny or yourself can sometimes see straight away if you're going to like a certain player, this seems to be one of them from Dannys' point of view. This is all about opinions and I respect someone like yourself who says they can't say as they haven't seen him enough, that's been honest but those that are saying he's average and not good enough for us clearly haven't seen him enough imho.

Progressive sides known for playing decent football - MK Dons, Wigan - want to sign him, seemingly. Chessy fans seem to be gutted at losing him.
Sound like decent recommendations to me.

Problem is we could hardly be described as a "progressive side known for playing decent football". And there'd be a fee involved. We've got zero chance of signing him.

Wigan not certain to get him either, they haven't even bid according to the Chesterfield chairman, who also said that another League 1 team were making enquiries.

If Bradley Dack is moving on, then Gillingham might be a good shout.

The clowns at United probably think they'll get plenty of opportunities to sign this sort of player for less money don't they!

Different types of player though arent they. I think there is only us and Wigan that would stand a chance of attracting him.

Would you want to live in Gillingham?

No I would not want to live there mate, but if he fancies a crack at Championship football, then Gillingham is looking a safe bet.

What makes you say that us and Wigan are the only two clubs that could attract him?
