oooops wrong thread

I had the Wigan match on Friday night (I was painting so didn't watch much of it but heard the commentary) and it sounded as though Morsy might just be the ticket for the Coutts role.

He's not the same type as Coutts but he does provide a lot of energy and bite to a midfield. I'm not sure Morsy alongside Fleck is a good match to be honest though and both are fairly small. I'd rather a Richie Wellens type in there. Sod that, I want a Coutts type in there! Marvin Sordel you clumsy nerk! That's me being very kind to Sordell!

Morsy probably does have more bite to his game than Coutts, a quality our midfield generally lacks (pre Coutts injury). He might be a better option from a defensive point of view, help grind out a few extra points. That's been one of my concerns this season, that in games we've generally dominated we've ended up losing, when if we'd have been a bit cannier we'd have at least got a point out of it (Norwich and Forest stand out, and Millwall sounded the same in the 2nd half before they scored).

Coutts replacement doesn't have to be a like-for-like , he could give the team an extra dimension in another direction and make the team better, more difficult to beat. We could still play great football but be a more solid defensive unit too.

I remember when we last played against morsy and I remember him as someone who played deep who liked to thread a forward pass. If other teams get involved we will move on quickly.

Spoke to a Liverpool fan Saturday night about the Liverpool (can’t spell
His name but there is a thread about him) lad who who has similar traits but has a bite in the tackle and is massive 6’3.

Morsy would be a decent signing but I'd probably prefer Max Power from Wigan, he's taller, more mobile and better on the ball.

By the way, what the fuck was Gary Caldwell playing at with Morsy last season? He let him go on loan to Barnsley when he should have been one of the first names on their team sheet. No wonder he got sacked by Wigan and then Chesterfield.

Power wasn't that good the other night. Morsy looked very good, albeit against lower league opposition. Kept the ball very well, worked hard, made some good forward passes. Him and Fleck in CM would lack a bit in height but apart from that, I think he'd be just right for us. I just can't see Wigan selling him in January unless we offer stupid money, which we won't. If Wigan stumble and don't go up I think we'd have a fair chance of getting him in the summer, depending on who else is in for him.

Power was playing a different role though, in a more advanced position which isn't his natural position. Morsy did well but it wasn't a hard game for him to constantly find the space he did.

They've been going with Morsy and Power central/deeper with Powell ahead of them, but since Powell's been out they've put Lee Evans in, who's not a like for like replacement but is too good to overlook in that situation. That resulted in Power playing further forward. Which to me shows he's more flexible and better on the ball than the other two.

Yeah, Power was in front of Evans and Morsy (or at least was to start with, Morsy seemed to switch from left to right at some point, I think I missed a bit of the game and I was watching Morsy so intently I'm not sure if Evans had switched with Power, I don't think so). Power does have the size advantage.

Did they remind you a bit of us? I know they were 4231 but I thought Morsy and Evans were quite similar to Fleck and Coutts and Burn marauding forward was JOC like. Good passing and movement. You can see why they're top of L1. If Adkins hadn't lost the confidence of the board by pursuing Hammond and had gone for Morsy and Burn, that's what we could have been like two seasons ago.

Technically they're not quite Coutts, Fleck and Duffy but they have a very good midfield that will see them promoted comfortably. They have quality and depth there.

It's ridiculous we didn't sign Morsy on one of the many occasions we could have but it makes you wonder what might have become of Coutts and subsequently any partnership with Fleck, which I wouldn't swap for anything.

I think Coutts and Morsy would have been a good pairing if we'd had a smarter manager than Adkins but it would have meant we wouldn't have signed Fleck. So it's worked out ok in the long run.

Onto Slough v Rochdale, see how MacGahey, a player I had high hopes for, has developed. Slew and Done on the bench.

Given their league position and as I understand it imminate investment I can't see Wigan selling anyone in January.

Marko Grujic?

Not sure where Power would play, don't see him as a deep lying playmaker like Coutts.

Grujic is a yes and wouldn't cost us anything to find out. Big future, but just needs games according to his agent

I think it might cost us for Grujic. Red Star paid about £3/4m loan fee to take him back on loan, I think. If we could get him free though, yeah snap him up on loan.
