Made my first visit to scunny today, first half was poor from both teams, although I thought we edged it, second half for the first 10 minutes or so was as good as I have seen for weeks maybe months, the ball being played quickly forward, we should have two at least, looked good, but the introduction of salmon spoiled it, he was brought on I presume to run and chase but mainly to hold the ball up, he could not achieve it and I wonder what our manager sees in him, any young non league player playing tomorrow couldmatch his effort for 45 minutes of running I find it baffling, I reckon scunny arethe worstteam I have seenthis season, long ball, plenty of running but no ability, still three deserved points and this will do wonders for the confidence of both players and the supporter's, utb and a Merry Christmas to you all, boxer.

Sammon was poor today and didn't do the job required of him, but that doesn't make him a bad player.

He was brought on to occupy their defence and largely failed.

One factor was the wind - Long who kicked the length of the pitch first half could hardly get the ball to halfway, and they penned us in.

That said he was outfought and outmanoeuvred even when the ball was on the ground.

Looked out of sorts.

Every time this comes up I refer to the fact that two sets of opposition fans singled him out as our best player earlier this season.

He also gets grief off Keith for not being Billy Whitehurst.

(He) Insert any United players name here......

Sammon looked to lack urgency to me. A ball would drop near him but there was no burst of pace he just sort of amble towards it when he ought to be sprinting to get the ball/shut down a player. Odd really.

A shame that he's suddenly looking shit. When I watched him against Chesterfield, I thought he was brilliant.

Even Big bad Billy isn't Billy Whitehurst anymore.. ;)

Sammon quite often looks to fight the player, rather than play the ball - On the odd occasion he plays the ball, he is really good and causes the opposing defenders all kinds of problems.

I would expect more from a striker than effort and closing down there defenders, I am not knocking his effort I just expect more, this isnt just this game but most I have seen, after saying that was it donny or Chesterfield were he came in from the left wing kicking towards the kop and hit it from around 25 yards and hit the bar, showed enough to say there was something in him but week in week out whenever he plays he brings little to the team.

Fans opinions of Sammon are not based on one game, but from the start of the season. He splits the fan base in terms of opinions

Personally, for a player of his size and stature, his ability to win a meaningful amount of headers have been lets say less than impressive. For a front man he carries very little presence. His ball control leaves something to be desired and any ability he might have to go past a player is diminished by his lack of pace. I don't believe he reads the game particularly well, or shows great anticipation

On the plus side, despite the above he has managed to score a few, so some credit goes to him

We have been missing a good target man for longer than I care to remember and neither of the Nigels have managed to address the issue (yet)

Lol

Reminds me of Darius Henderson in how he concentrates on wrestling with the defender, rather than do the job he's paid for... Scoring goals.

For me its hard to hate him, partially just on that little flicked assist to Adams (at home against Chesterfield?). My erection from that will eventually subside, and then I'll be able to agree with everyone that he's a shitty parasitic wage robber.

The job he is paid to do is help the team win. A forward's remit extends to more than just scoring goals, and I couldn't give a damn if he doesn't score again this season if his overall play helps us win promotion.

But unfortunately, I don't think it does.

Wow. We win away with a clean sheet ( third 1-0 win in a row) but let's have a right go at this week's "weakest link"; no sense in letting a week slip by without attacking a player is there?

At least Collins, McEveley, Woolford, Long, Coutts and Hammond will be glad to be away from the spotlight this week.

I was surprised early on with him as he had 2 or 3 excellent games, where he did look like the real deal, but since then he has dropped off massively and looks to be a very average journeyman.

I would prefer to see United let him go back to Derby in the JTW and for United to give Higdon another go, as he seems to be finding some form and fitness at Oldham and I think he offers just as much as Connor Sammon does.

Sammon .................................. makes you wish we still had Porter on the books.

Maybe he's struggling to come to terms with the fact he's dropped two divisions since he left Wigan and still can't hold down a regular first team place. Or carrying a bit of a knock.

Great post.

Sammon had a very poor game, but he has generally done well for us this season.

I really don't think it has been a surprise to most of us that he has been average. Wasn't excited by his signing, but to be fair has had one or two decent games, but we need better. As someone said Higdon has now had a lot more game time since leaving us and would be worth trying, unless Nigel is planning a swoop in the JTW.

Not really, for me. He's scored a few and had a few good games - but overall he's been poor.

No presence, awful in the air - we should send old "ten bob foot" back as soon as the deal allows.

He's the type of player we've been apologising for for years - with the inevitable sorry outcome

UTB

I saw the earlier version of Connor Sammon at Peterborough and he was brilliant that night and up against a very good centre half too. Sadly, he has not been anywhere as good since. A shame as he has the ability but he either is carrying an injury or doesn't seem to have the motivation as he did earlier.
