Safe Standing at the Lane...

Someone should commission a study and get a crash test dummy and trip it up on a seat back, because I'd take a waist high barrier/bus shelter lean on seat situation every day of the week over plastic digging into my shins if I'm not sat on the back row and able to stand, or a tripping hazard and potential bowling ball manoeuvre down the stand.
 
It’s not the official “safe standing”, the seating that’s in a locked fixed UP position
Then can be brought DOWN into normal seating for UEFA games.

The rules have been relaxed so clubs can now put a rail barrier in front of current seats, think Spurs already have it.
So fans have the choice to sit or stand.
Although if most people are standing then if you do decide to sit your view will be obstructed.

It’s not that much different to what we already have.
At the back of the Kop everyone stands virtually the whole match anyway.

The difference is there would be a bar in front of your seat to lean on.
I suppose it gives you more confidence to jump up and down and go crazy,

Plus it also means more can stand/lean which is far more comfortable than just standing. The moany feckers will just have to move to John St or Currie.
 
they have these in Austria. everyone turns them into a seat at half time. i said to my mate.. 'why have you put your seat down?'.. 'so i can have a beer and a fag at half time!' :)
 
This is why laws made in haste are a bad idea. No one will argue that crowd control didn't need a huge overhaul but now we have a law on the books that is difficult to repeal both functionally and politically. Making standing safe isn't difficult. A barrier between each row means a crush can never happen and is probably far safer than the risk of falling over the seat in front of you that sits at shin height for someone my size. It'd also make pitch invasions more difficult.

Having safe standing sections would make things better for fans on all sides. Those that want to stand could. Those who want to sit could do so with less interruption. Still, we've got laws that won't be easily altered.

Wolves are actually being quite brave in admitting standing goes on and that there's little they can do to stop it.
 
The biggest opposition to safe standing is the JFT96 group and we can totally understand that. But watch any liverpool match and the vast majority are stood, at the barca game the only people sat down were in wheelchairs and even some of them jumped up when they scored

It's the politics of it all though. What politician wants to be the one seen to be championing the idea of standing in football grounds? It's not going to win you many votes and it can be spun to make you look bad.
 
Hopefully if we extend the kop if we stay up, we'll go with a similar thing.
 



They're just the normal seats with bars around them, I thought you had to have special low profile seats which made it more expensive. If you can just stick some bars in get it done Yoonited.

Think some parts of the ground would actually feel safer with standing rather than seating.

And the bars are good for the oldies with bad knees. Something to grab at on your way down the steps when they've seized on a cold November night.

The "safe standing" areas will need to be managed. I'm not so bothered about these areas for the home support as I am sure that there will be suitable seated areas available. My main issue now is actually the ability to go to away matches as it is now virtually compulsary for away supporters to stand through the game. I suffer with an arthritic back (I'm welcoming my 70th birthday next), and have now not been to an away match for some 4 seasons due to a couple of unfortuanate experiances. As I can only stand "stationary" for a few minutes I do look for seats near aisles or the front if possible, anyway after being told to "feck off" by fellow blades (and rather confrontationally) when I asked if they could swap seats as they insisted in standing in front of me, and the last occasion having tried to move sideways was told by an unfriendly steward to get back or I would be thrown out of the ground, after much argument I left the game voluntarilly. I have now accepted that my "awaydays" are over. You can't get seats in other parts of away grounds because of the strict segregation rules . OK I know I am getting old - but why should that prevent me from supporting the team.

Sad to say mate, your away days may be over. Can’t you stipulate a front row seat ? I only rarely get to away games thee days. No chance next season

Welcome to Modern Britain, how dare you ask people to do what they are supposed to do. Also the big tough steward let's see shall I ask all those blokes to sit down like they are supposed to do or take the easy option and harass a pensioner for moving about ?

I don't get this safe standing.
It's a myth that it will create better a atmosphere, there was some poor atmospheres at Bramall Lane in the 80's and we had most of the ground standing.

I like the fact you go to the ground you have your space doesn't matter what time you get in the ground you have your space.

Safe standing has I understand it you also have your numbered space like you have your seat now, but what happens if somebody's friend wants to squeeze on to the row and then his friend ? If I had a desire to be squashed up against sweaty men I would go to the Blue Oyster Club. I like my little personal space I get with my seat.
Now some have suggested I could bugger off to the South Stand or John St. Unfortunately John St is out unless I kidnap a kid and the South Stand and John St for that matter is more Expensive than the kop, not earning a great wage it could possibly price me out, I also like the kop.

Which standing sections have you seen which have concluded it’s a myth it will improve atmosphere?

I’ve been to Bundesliga games where the atmosphere is miles better. Standing isn’t the only factor, but it plays a significant part.

Safe standing allocates you a seat which can be folded back. It’s no different to current seating where people could squeeze in amongst their mates.

Can’t really fathom the arguments against offering the choice at grounds, apart from that you don’t want to do it yourself. That’s fine, but why preclude everyone else?
 
It will need government legislation to approve it and they seem to have their hands full at the moment with other little issues.

Don’t hold your breath.

Completely agree. The atmospheres in the early 90's were shite at times.

It's been mentioned on here loads of times when this subject keeps coming up.

Different country, that's like saying let everyone bring in Pyro's like Italian & Turkish clubs do they have great atmosphere.

Never in all my time going to the lane have I seen someone try to squeeze in between seats, I have seen very young kids sit on adults laps but that's it.

Could say the same thing why should I have to move seats or change stands to please a few for something that there is very little need for.
