Safe Standing and Atmosphere

Safe standing area at Swansea created a good atmosphere yesterday and combined with those in the seats right by us they generated some noise. They sang most of the game and got right behind the team.

Great to have an update on this. Looking forward to seeing the results.

If you can see anything for the flashing lights:

'As part of the ongoing improvements at Bramall Lane, the club has installed new LED advertising boards. We would like to inform anyone who may be sensitive to flashing lights that these upgraded boards are brighter than the previous ones and will be positioned to face both the pitch and the crowd.'

Assume this is the new 'Midnite ' advert that was flashing round the pitch at the last match - not an improvement at all :(

Good to see this moving forward.

Shame it's currently 1 for 1 in terms of capacity but I can see this changing in years to come.

"It is also important to note that as most people will be standing anyone who does not wish to or who may be 5ft 4ins or less will have their view restricted."

Don't worry YorkBlade , I hear they'll provide a stepladder just for you.
Anyone who may be 5ft 4ins or less?! Surely you either are, or you aren’t?

I hope we do a proper job of this like Wembley and not what Rotherham have done. I thought the safe standing at Rotherham was pretty poor, it was like they had kept the original seats in and just put railings up, if you sat down your view was impacted by people standing up.

I'm all for safe standing, but NN upwards... thats a massive chunk of the Kop and probably displacing some people who don't really need displacing.
But selfishly - it means I'm sitting very close to the standing section so I look forward to the atmosphere spilling over into my bit. Plus if the standing lot go quiet, I'm close enough to hurl abuse at them.

The safe standing at stokes away end was really good and certainly seemed to contribute to the atmosphere. Hopefully we’re doing something similar.

From reading the article sounds like this is exactly what it's going to be. I don't think there will be any changes to rake or spacing.

Costs will probably mean railings will just be added.

I'm not sure what else they can do mid season.

Without changing the rake of the kop, I'm not sure how you can help people see, if they want to sit down.

I genuinely fail to see how this will a have any effect on the atmosphere other than the “standing encourages you sing more argument” which tbh I’m not 100% sold on
The only reason it’s being implemented as far as I can see is because standing at the back of kop and down side can’t be controlled or policed ,we saw that with the closures and threats by the council over last few seasons
All this changes is that threat has gone now and you can officially stand up in the same places?
Am I missing something?
Not being anti as my row stands anyway just don’t see the big deal about it

Happy to be enlightened 🤷🏾‍♂️

I sit on the Kop.My seat is one that will become safe standing and I welcome it.I don’t stand during at the moment as all in front of me remain seated during the game. The only time I stand is in moments of high excitement,I don’t get up a lot as you can imagine.Stood at Wembley and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, sang our hearts out in backing The Blades.I genuinely believe it will make a difference and fingers crossed create a better atmosphere within the ground.

there is nowhere near enough leg room on the kop as it stands, how TF are they going to put extra standing bars on there without making the space even smaller. Sounds like it’s going to be a complete clusterfeck. Happy to be proved wrong but imo this should only have been implemented at the same time as a complete kop rebuild. United trying to do it on the cheap ffs. UTB

After we sell Hamer on deadline day maybe he can have his step? 😁

I was against the idea of a designated safe standing area but now I know it means the back of the Kop where we all stand anyway I’m more than happy..

That's the case with all safe standing. There's no way in any situation you can sit and still see, while the person in front is standing.

From clubs point of view the problem is trying to please everybody all of the time. Safe standing needs to happen for those of us who want to stand. There's going to be more seating than standing slots so I can't see the problem for the armchairs fans.

You could at Wembley as the seat is at waist height so you’re above the persons head who is standing infront of you when you are sat down.
True. Ours was always going to be this situation, without a huge refurb job.
In all honesty I don't see how any of them are safer, or even what they think they are preventing. Crowd surges don't happen with seats anyway.
Worst I've suffered is by jumping about and grazing my shin.

Interestingly an inability to see things from someone else’s perspective is a key feature of a psychopath 🤷‍♂️ UTB
