RIP Alex , what a player, everything appeared too easy for him, would have been brilliant now but the players around him just didnt play on the same wave length, ill have to change my user name now, gone but not forgotten

What a natural talent ,in today's non tackling game he would have been sensational .r.i.p.alex was a.pleasure to see him play .he could do magic utb

Agree with that mate.

He would have been incredible in the modern game. Great player, very skillful, a hero for Blades fans at the time.

RIP Alex Sabella

Too young to have seen him play for us but remember over 20 years ago chatting to a pig fan in a pub I used to frequent at Ridgeway.

Used to live next to him (in Mosborough I think) and said he was a top young bloke.

R. I. P Alex.
What a player.
I remember watching him in an evening away game at Leicester - I think it was the second game of the season 1978.
City had obviously heard about our new star player and they detailed Tommy Williams to man mark him. Poor lad.
Alex made him look like a lost school boy!
He dribbled by him for the umpteenth time and laid the winner (1-0) on a plate.
I forget who tapped it in. Silent Blade?
On his day he was a helluva player.

John Matthews (on his debut) scored with a powerful drive from inside the box

No, I don't think it was Silent Blade who tapped it in.

Sad news indeed , cracking player on his day in a poor team of the time , a pleasure & privilege to have watched during his time at the Lane ⚔️ RIP Alex

RIP to a top player, a few years before my time but as my grandad used to say after coming back from the lane when I was little "he's a tricky little bugger that argie lad"

Dreadful news, a very bright light on our dark journey to the 4th . Now a dark year plumbs a new depth - heaven is a richer place with a great man.

Absolutely gutted to hear this
After Woodward and Currie he's the best I've ever seen in a United shirt.
Unpredictable and on his day unplayable.
V Liverpool 1978 they were league champions. Sabella on the edge of the box, little jink, then the chip, Hamson ran onto it, boom Ray Clemence had no chance.
What a night.
Thank you for some precious memories Alex.
RIP 😢😢
One of the greatest nights at the Lane.....ever!

Very sad to hear this, RIP Alex. I saw him play many times.
It was a bold move from the club and also for Alex.
I remember him as an entertainer first and foremost, beating defenders with his socks rolled down in a team that wasn't great.
One of the good guys he will be sadly missed.
