That's an interesting interview about the centre halves.

SHEFFIELD UNITED manager Chris Wilder admits that bringing in some centre halves is ‘a massive priority’ – with the club’s current options being threadbare.

Wilder made his first raid on the transfer market this week, bringing in Burton winger Mark Duffy and Bury left-back Chris Hussey.

But now he is switching his focus to central defence, with Jay McEveley and Neill Collins having left their posts in recent times, leaving current options as minimal.

Wilder said: “It’s a massive priority.

We need players who, first of all, want to defend. We need players who want to get up the pitch as well if we want to press. It is important we have energy and athleticism in the two centre halves as well as being good defenders.

“We haven’t got a (senior) centre half in the football club at the moment.

“We have a young kid who will potentially be a ‘player’ for us from the academy in Callum Semple, but he’s possibly six months away.

“We need tough defenders who are going to stick their heads on the line and do what they need to do to keep the ball out of the net.”

Stressing that he would like to bring in full-time as opposed to loan options in the heart of defence if possible, he added: “We are getting players chucked at us who we cannot get over the line as they are asking for too much money.”

“It has to fit in with the financial aspect of it, but we are working hard, whether season-long loans or permanent. In an ideal world, I’d like permanents.

“But we will look and explore and ideally we’d like everyone back in the building before the 23rd when we start. But there might be a couple who are slow-burners.

“The centre-half position is one we definitely need to change pretty quickly.”

So he wants good defenders first and foremost with energy and athleticism so we can play a higher line.

I'd be intrigued to know who these players are who want too much money... wouldn't surprise me if one was Kilgallon.

He's spot on to want permanent signings in a position such as centre half.

And does that last comment mean we're starting our pre season on the 23rd, and that we want most our signings in by then? If so, then great, on both counts.

Wouldn't surprise me if Tafazolli/his agent is playing a bit of 'keep-uppy' between us/Posh and whoever...fair enough I suppose at his stage of career...

Well hopefully the keepy uppy doesn't last much longer, because I seriously fear Blade58 will have a nervous breakdown.

hallelujah to that Mister Wilder!

That would have been Terry Kennedy, if his injuries had not got the better of him, two big hard lads please!

What are you trying to say? Am I having my leg lifted here?

Nah, twitter said Shirecliffe, that fat kid who has an ego Michael or whatever his name is. I'm sorry, it's really sad I know that. But solitary conference calls and all that.

Was in sports bar playa blanca watching champ league final got talking to a chap allegedly involved in footy told him I was a blade he said interesting time for you ahead gave me 4 names two have signed other 2 tafazolli and Northampton keeper not itk just passing it on mentioned a few more but them 4 were strong possibilities

The afore mentioned chap was supposed to be involved in insurance of sports personal mainly football and was privy to a lot of contractual info across all leagues. I don't even know if such people exist. He said the contracts at our club are astronomical compared to teams around us and agents are still seeing us as a soft target to pay over the odds. I did ask for his number which he did give me and his phone rang more than a hookers doorbell

Not bad for a first touch that...

If CW is prepared to consider a loan, would Maguire be viable? I've not been following him at Hull, but a quick google shows he was on Loan last year and hardly played during their last spell in the PL. No doubt a season in the Championship, getting regular games will have made him more important to the team, but is/will he get much of a look in now they've gone back up and will presumably splash a bit of cash to stengthen?

It's been said that if Wendy didn't get promoted they'd be in for him. Harry being a pig and all makes sense. But he really seemed to enjoy the celebrations post final whistle

I've heard rumours that Maguire has doubled his wage as they went back to Prem so good luck to the lad. Cannot see it happening.

The interview pretty much wipes out Tafazoulli finally! Like I've been saying for past 2 weeks

CW doesn't mention him nor mention any other names, so I'm not really sure how you've come to that conclusion?

I've been saying for 2 weeks he isn't signing. Like I've said some people ITK know who is signing and sometimes by chance know who isn't signing.

I know you've been saying it, but you haven't given a source as to why or how you know he isn't signing

Without a source it just comes across as an opinion rather than itk. I'm not knocking you. I welcome all the rumours, but some back up is required when a bold statement is made

What is it about centre halfs (or the fact that we never seem to sign any)? This thread is almost Dan Burnesque.....

I'm sure you would too if the team you play for had just won the play off final

Be interesting to see how the "ITKers" wriggle out of this. One said Wilder had shown him around BDTBL a day or two ago and another confirmed he was signing!

A la Harlee Dean, Dan Burn and Dean Hammond last August, Strappy and Maxster exposed as pathetic bullsh!tters!
