Something the bear in mind.
Wilder might not be here when One starts to kick on. If we brough Piroe in this Summer he would improve us immediately.

To us, the players, maybe even the owners, losing players like One and Peck is a negative in the long term, but bringing players in like Phillips, Bamford, Piroe etc could save a managers job medium to short term.

How many of us would jeopardise our job, for the benefit for our companies long term goals?
If I was a manager of the club I supported, earned millions from, threw a hissy fit to get sacked and a big payoff, and knew this was probably my last job... you damn right I'd be trying to safeguard the future and leave a legacy. But Mr Wilder looks after Mr Wilder... as all historical evidence shows.

The counter argument to Oné's grumbles would be that he was given an opportunity to go to Lincoln City on loan.

He did, and did pretty well, nut he didn't force his way into their first XI regularly.

So to have expected to get lots of game time here might have been a bit unreasonable hitherto.

From what I can gather one does not expect to start yet, but he does expect more minutes.
How many did he get in the preseason friendliest?

What a m waste of all our time reading this

He’s not going to Rangers. They obviously like him due to their scouts being in and around the Scotland youth set-up. If he goes, it would be if/when a Premier League club takes him as a development project and offers a much more substantial fee. Think everyone needs to chill, Ryan is a down to earth lad and is patient. He’ll get minutes from the bench, that’s where he’s at at present- not going to be starting just yet.

I agree, he should have got considerably more minutes in preseason. IMO with Cannon & Campbells showings last season all 3 should be battling it out for the no 2 striker position. No doubt we will start with Bamford + Cannon on Saturday, so hopefully he will get time from the bench.

As I wrote in another related post A clear plan needs to be laid out for him and stuck to For example guarantee him at least 7 starts up to the January transfer window , plus some time from off the bench. Let him develop a paertnership with one other striker. Then review in January, if he has done well, do the same for the second half of the season if not let him out on loan again.

A combination of Cannon and Wilder will bring about the demise of this club.
We have had rubbish players before, we will have them again. there is no way a player or even a manager it will bring about the demise of this club.

He didn’t get regular starts because their forward line was already playing really good football not because he wasn’t good enough. The fact they went on to win promotion shows they were doing something right.

The Lincoln fans rated him extreamly highly and compared him favourably to Morgan rogers who they had on loan at a similar stage to One.

His output was excellent for the minutes spent on the pitch at a decent level.

One just turned 20. He didn't even start regularly for Lincoln on loan in League One last season. He'll presumably be used this season, at least early on, as an impact sub. There's nothing wrong with that. There's no rush. Seriki didn't look like a capable starter until he was about 22.
Ben Madjo for Villa is only 17

He's gonna have to get minutes if we don't sign a couple of wingers anyway, as he's probably the only one who could do it after Chong and Donovan. Maybe Burrows if we're really light?

Id sooner burrows. Always looks good going forward and can't defend so arguably more suited there. One is more of a target man for me

No professional footballer( even the top ones ) should be guaranteed a start, it's got to be earned by impressing the coaching staff in training.

To be fair, was hard to get into their side when they were already challenging for autos. Got plenty of sub appearances and scored a fair few considering the lack of mins. Couldn't really do much more based on the limited time he was there.

Cannon is superb in training.

Double edged sword this though… some players look great in training and don’t reach those levels under the pressure of an actual game others need that extra bit of competition to get them going ..

With us operating with a far smaller squad than last season and the generally terrible injury record of most of our players, there's every chance that One will get a run in the side, whether Wilder wants to use him or not.

Every minute under his belt, especially if he proves to be effective, is to his benefit and ours.

Oh he is, but I just can't see anyone else who could do it. Even if Burrows is favoured, you'd still need someone else as you'd imagine Chong/Donovan would need to come off most weeks (or not be available on the first place).

To be honest those options all look pretty crap to me (except Donovan who I've never seen play). If we can't sign another, I'd probably prefer us to go with wigbacks instead.

That’s far too sensible to post on here … you need to find a way of turning it into a stick to beat Wilder with 😁

I agree but I think you can put in conditions that have to be met by the player

Not when he's looking at who's playing in front of him.
Continuing to flog a dead horse in Cannon instead of giving One more of a chance in pre-season has made little sense for his future or for the club's.

This is why I increasingly get annoyed by our club. Instead of playing the likes of Osula and One, we decide we can't take the risk and instead sell them on for a decent but not ridiculous fee despite having potential to be worth more than our entire club.

All while we persevere with players who will never in a million years be worth any more than we paid for them. Totally backwards club.
There is a large majority of our fan base who would not be prepared to sit and watch the likes of One and Osula playing and LEARNING how to play for us week in week out. Just look at the comments about Donovan from the other day - look back to threads on here about Sydie Peck when he was having that sticky patch - look at the response to Arblaster as he tried to come back from a long term serious injury.

If Ryan One was good enough to be starting regualrly he would be. See Peck, Arblaster before him, Brooks (x2).
I'm no fan of Cannon - I'd happily shift him off at a loss. In my opinion we need another forward or Campbell to somehow get back to his best (something else I can't see happening). But they way we're using One (bringing him on end of games etc) is exactly where he should be currently.

We only played Peck because we had to due to Blasters injury and now he is our most valuable player. One has already shown he can impact games but has hardly featured under Wilder
