People are desperate to work in football and clubs are really leaning into that. There was a very senior data/recruitment role advertised at Newcastle a couple of weeks ago that barely paid more than I'm currently earning when it really should've been a 6-figure salary. It's a strange situation to be penny-pinching on these roles then happily sign a footballer on £150k p/w based on some half-hearted due diligence.

It's the whole reason I packed in working in sport and went in a different direction.

I was told at interview by the head coach where, in his words, the wage for the job was "fucking embarrassing" which was my moment where I knew that, at 25 for heaven's sake, I'd already reached the end of the road in that line of work.

Interesting question, one I don’t know the answer to:

How much would you rate Oné and either Souttar on a swap.

For Souttar you're really paying for current value.

For Oné you’re going to be looking for something that recognises his potential value due to his obvious likely development given the physical tools he already has.

Transfermarkt has Harry Souttar at €3.5m. He’s 27.

They have his brother at €2m and Oné at 900k.

Sometimes they are dead on but I find these miles off.

I’d expect Leicester to rate Souttar at around £6-7m, especially after the World Cup and with 2 years on his deal.

I’d be surprised if Rangers expected much of a fee with a year to go and being clearly left out. They might aim for 750k-1m but late on agree to pay up his deal even or simply loan him until his contract expires.

For Oné I’d want daft money. I’d be pitching him at Osula 10m levels. Absolute worst you might just agree a straight swap with Harry Souttar. Or I’d want 5m+ John Souttar if dealing with Gers.

Me personally id say to Leicester you can have him on loan for the season. Let them develop him even more. Well pay his wage however we get soutar on a permanent for very cheap. Win win for us

If he goes there it’d be a loan unless we are complete fucking idiots.

With his contract being weighted in our favour and having just had a decent load spell we’d be daft not asking for several million for him.

As someone else said we should be looking for Osula type money for him. Same age, same profile, same potential. Some PL team will take a chance on him. If not we keep him and hes initially back up and when he gets a chance, if he takes it hes in the running for a first 11 spot. Absolutely no point in loaning him to another division one team unless Wilder has no intention of picking him. If tests the case then Lincoln might want him back on loan which would be a good move for us to see how he copes with championship football

Yes I was going to say Osula - he’d had a few games in the premier league though so I think his value probably slightly edges what we could realistically get for One right now.

I’d be disappointed if he went for much less though

Look how Osula has kicked on now. It’s quite rare to find a forward with Osula and One’s height and athleticism while being quick with decent feet.

Some of the Lincoln fans were comparing him favourably to Morgan Rogers during his loan spell having had Rogers at a similar time in his career.
