Lenny is (ok, was) our star man. Hard working right to the final whistle, never gives up, great tackler, chases back, has a decent shot (though can sky free kicks a bit), a long throw merchant, a team player. We will miss him badly. We all knew he would be leaving, he wanted to and contract was up at the end of the season so could have left then for free, but he wanted to better himself having done us proud for six seasons. Despite wanting to go, all of his performances this season have showed 100% commitment.

You have a good 'un there. Welcome him well.

Slightly against the prevailing sentiment, seems that your Chairman tried his best to hang on to him and also seemed that the player kept on doing his best for you despite his (probable) disappointment at not joining us earlier.
Hope that the money up front will allow Southend to buy a player or 2 to get you higher up the table smartish.
