This is turning into a bigger bloody farce than the Ricky Holmes saga. Leonard allegedly puts a transfer request in a few days ago and now takes it out again! What does he think he's doing? Playing Hokey Cokey?
He expects to stay, he wants to leave, he doesn't want to leave.
Would he like to go 50/50, ask the audience or phone a friend maybe?
All this seems to revolve around the supposition that because Southend United did well last season in finishing in the top 10, this coming season will be one where they seriously challenge for promotion. I don't know the comings and goings on down at Southend this summer, maybe one of our Shrimpy mates on here will tell us? but what sort of conviction has been shown by the club in the transfer market thus far? (Apart from clinging like a barnacle to Leonard)?
Have Southend gone out there and started signing up some real quality players to give the club that push into the top 6 or top 2? If you were Leonard, would you be looking at the business the club is doing and thinking..."this is great, they are making some fantastic signings and we're really going to have a great chance of promotion this coming season!" Because that's what he should be basing his decision on - nothing else.
If he wants to play at a higher level of football then it really comes down to..."do I want it now?" or "am I prepared to wait and see if the chance comes with Southend United?"
I've a feeling I know how this is going to end. Leonard stays - Southend United are not looking like promotion contenders in Jan - Leonard leaves for less money than is on the table now.
Bad for Leonard and bad for Southend United ultimately.
Oh so very true, come match day there are 8000 Ents in Roots Hall going 'hooom' 10 minutes after we score.Time to move on.
The lad wants to join us, he wants to play Championship football in front of 25,000+ supporters every week.
Unfortunately, and something that is totally alien to us, he is contracted to a club who`s chairman does everything he can to keep his best players.
Credit him for bucking the modern trend.
Southend and their chairman have spent the best part of a decade trying to move their new ground on, we should have known nothing ever moves quickly down there.
I think our chairman and manager are both looking at automatic promotion.
I know that maybe hard for bigger clubs to understand. There is an almost know your place philosophy in the lower leagues. It is why teams like pompey will be one of the favourites to get promotion again despite not really justifying it.
As for us we have lost just two first team players. Adam Thompson to bury. We have replaced him with michael turner. Arguably a much better player albeit with more miles on the clock. We lost will Atkinson to Mansfield and replaced him with michael kightly who is a massive upgrade and great signing at league 1 level.
Michael turner
Anton Ferdinand
Simon cox
Fortune
Ranger
Kightly
Are all very good players at this level.
We then have the likes of
Ben coker
Stephen hendrie
Jason Demetriou
Anthony wordsworth
Ryan Leonard etc who are all very decent and could possibly go on to bigger and better things.
PB has hinted that he is in talks with a player who contacted him and in his own words would be a "wow" signing. A signing which would be ridiculous at this level.
IF we keep Lenny i would expect a top 6 place as a minimum target.
Our biggest weakness is the goalkeeper area. We have Ted Smith who is a youth and England u19 international. And inexperienced and Mark Oxley who doesn't look great.
We have an amazing youth set up. We are losing so many of our youth to premier league sides but with big add ons. We recently lost a 14 year old to man city and they paid a 200k upfront fee which is a record I believe.
Went to the pre season game Saturday and all of the talk has been of Dru Yearwood. Just 17 years old and looks the real deal. Very tricky and confident midfielder. He is one that PB has said will get first team minutes this season. Could be looking at a good few million in the future.
We also have the small matter of a new stadium to be approved In around 6 weeks.
We cannot hope to do anything at roots hall Just 8500 home fans can squeeze in.
The new stadium gives an opportunity to grow as a club.
I hope that the above answers your questions and also why our chairman is so keen to keep Leonard. He is a vital part of what we are trying to achieve. Championship football is worth much more than 500k.

Leonard turns down new deal with us, but retracts transfer request - http://www.echo-news.co.uk/sport/15..._deal_at_Blues_but_retracts_transfer_request/
Yeah we know, but wtf is he playing at?
I think we've moved on to the Oxford lad because this has become farcical
I would really like to agree with you but I'm not so sure. He has certainly talked him out of putting in a transfer request, the rest is up for grabs at the moment, especially if Sheffield put in another improved bid.Simple really, after discussions with our chairman, it appears he has persuaded him to stay and see out the remainder of his contract.
Perhaps the question should be why are we unable to attract league one players to join us?
Starting to get embarrassing.
It sounds as if you could do with professional help. My daughter's a psychologist and if you would like to pay her fees of £600k up front I'm sure she can help. We'll also give you a free Lenny as a promotional gift.I keep having a dream that I'm playing golf (I don't play golf) and I'm bored as fuck, yet I know there's still loads of holes left to play, and it's pretty distressing.
Genuinely had this dream multiple times recently. It could be due to some deep psychological issue in my life, or it could be this thread.
