Why would he prefer Norwich to us? Unless you're at UEA there's sod all to do in Norwich and nothing remotely drive able in a day, beyond the North Norfolk coast. Also, Norwich are going to struggle in mid-table whilst we'll be consolidating in mid-table in preparation for a promotion push the following year. And have you seen their shite kit FFS!!!

Only a thought, but perhaps wages might have something to do with it?

Norwich may offer more than we are prepared to pay and whilst money is not always the driving factor as Nathan Thomas has recently demonstrated, it often does play its part, especially when those pesky agents get involved

I'm hoping the Norwich interest is just bollox anyway

Norwich have still got parachute payments. Their aim will be promotion and that's what they'll tell him whilst offering him £15k a week.

The fact they're one of the favourites for promotion and can pay higher wages than us.

You put £11 on Len to leave Southend.

You also put £11 on Len to join Blades.

If both happens, you win £10 on your first bet and £27.50 on the second.

If he leaves but goes elsewhere, you get £10 from your first bet (plus your stake) which covers almost all of the £11 you lost on your second bet.

Of course, that doesn't account for tax.

Betting tax (duty) was abolished in 2001 Bush.

Didn't know that. Shows how long it is since I've had a bet.
A tax on betting would be a great idea.

Just seen B58 had already said. Think it was replaced by a levy on bookmakers gross profits. If memory serves correctly.

There's the Longstanton spice museum and a cracking owl sanctuary.

Apparently out local rag will be running a story regarding Lenny tomorrow. Interview with our chairman who says he will not let Lenny leave the club unless the deal is beneficial. Knowing our chairman he will want to prove Lenny out of a move away.

Knowing your chairman he will be wearing a ridiculous toupée.

The Southend Echo headline today states that Ron will not let Lenny go with these quotes:

"We understand Lenny's wish to test himself at the next level, however the club wishes to be at the next level too and to achieve that objective it doesn't make any sense to sell our influential players"

"We would be delighted if Lenny stays with us"

He's a pivotal member of the squad, well liked, and a great professional"

"Next year is vital for us and Lenny can make that difference"

"I hope he reflects, talks to the manager in a week or two and sees what deal we can structure for him to encourage his continuing and valued commitment to Southend United."

The article also mentions that Millwall offered £300k and Sheffield Utd £250k. If the offers are correct then it's no wonder we are still pratting around with this.

The thing that is weird is that by constantly going to the media and saying "he's not for sale" and giving details of all the bids then doesn't them actions advertise that he is for sale and that your Chairman is hoping to stir up interest to create an auction.

It's all very quiet about any interest from the Sheffield end but Southend seem to want to drum up publicity and put him in the shop window when apparently he's not for sale.

If there's no interest form any clubs in the next 2 or 3 weeks I reckon he'll release another statement telling the football world that "there's loads of interest and enquiries from many clubs, one has made an increased bid but he's STILL not for sale unless we receive a substantial bid".

"Ron" will, sooner rather than later. have no option but to let him go. There is nothing in his remarks that suggests he won't.

One thing he certainly ought to let go is that ridiculous rug perched embarrassingly on top of his head:

IMG_0007.JPG

You're bald, "Ron". Be proud.

You don't know our chairman.

Very stubborn indeed.

If promotion to the championship is worth a reputed 10 million, then we would be foolish to sell one of our best players for 300k. We want to be up there again this season and for 300k we wouldn't be able to replace his quality. I'd say 600k would allow us to do so.

It's simple really if club's don't meet our valuation he stays. He may well walk for free at the end of the season but it's worth the gamble.

You don't know our manager. He won't pay beyond his valuation. You also don't know life. Bald man with absurd toupées carry no credibility. If Leonard wants to go; he's going.

Well, you would be able to replace his quality for that money cos that's what we are paying theoretically.
You would just need to scout and look properly. But the longer you leave it then the harder it will be.
So if he deep down knows he will sell in the end, then he may as well do it early to give his manager time to replace as well as possible.

I love statements like this as we have been in this position previously. Their chairman talks a good game but then mentions "we would be delighted if he stays". Basically, it's down to the player.

Call me negative but aren't we taking the mickey a bit here. If we think he can make a difference in the championship he has to be worth more than 250k doesn't he ?

If I was at Southend I'd be furious that my main man is being unsettled by transfer talk whilst being offered peanuts for him !

We will all have to wait and see. One thing is certain in my view, if Wilder really rates Lenny but will only pay £250k (the reported amount), then Lenny will not be going to Bramall Lane this time round. Take the mick out of our Ron's hair (it is all his) all you like (we often do), but he is no mug when it comes to business. If you want Lenny offer more or move on.

Footballers can be mardy bastards mate, do you know what a mardy bastard footballer will be worth to you next season in your promotion push? Fek all.
I wish they didn't have all the power to be honest and it's admirable what your chairman is striving for but it's basically the players decision.

Completely agree, and that's as a supporter of a team who've lost decent players who were determined to go. Better that the Southend supporters get a decent fee than to hold onto a player who isn't giving his all. That Southend adopt a hard nosed attitude, the more the player, and his agent, will plan an escape. Take the money and move forward.

Is it fuck all his. That's a rug.

How many times do you need to be told that Wilder, unlike Bald Ron, knows football. He won't pay more than he thinks the player is worth. That's it. Unlike you, I don't much care whether we sign your best player as one of our squad so I have no axe to grind here. "Lenny" wants to go. You hold no aces.

You can hold out RugRon as some sort of gladiatorial business warrior all you like. It cuts no ice here. He is, however, bald as a fucking coot and no amount of wishing will change that.

First, grey:

Then, a ludicrous fucking yellow:

The guy's bald. It's a rug. An embarrassing rug. Sorry if that spoils his Herculean image, but rug it is.

But it's RugRon that's doing all the talk. We've made an offer that reflects Tufty's valuation. Let's not start doffing our toupées to fucking Southend, eh?
