'Ruthless' and 'Consequences'

  1. No didn't yesterday but watched him in the last ten, I am not aware he had a good game yesterday, I want Billy to succeed I really do as and its not his fault he's on 20K per week, he gives his all but looks very poor to me!

When I saw the teamsheet yesterday I was a little confused. With all the talk of being 'ruthless' and that there will be 'consequences' for players I was expecting a surprise or two.

What I actually got was:

Brayford for Freeman (which was expected when he returned)
Edgar at the back - (which was expected when he returned)
JCR for an injured Baxter
Coutts for Reed (expected)
Done for Adams (The only 'ruthless' thing that may have happened)

I realise Adkins is very limited in the changes he can make but these changes were neither ruthless nor signified consequences. A bit odd really.

I was saying this all week there is absolutely fuck all we can do we are fucking stuck with all the shit we've accumulated even BIG blade Mcabe has admitted it.

This isn't the wilderness years it's fucking worse

Tell me who would have done a better job than Billy Sharp did up front for us yesterday. He and Done ran the back 4 ragged and both were unlucky ,both also set chances up for other players. If its not his fault hes on 20 k a week (which I very much doubt) why bring it up ? Another week we could have been 5-0 up ,no exaggeration ,their movement was excellent and the midfield had options.
To say he is very poor is pathetic.

One thing (maybe not the only thing :p) Adkins has in common with Weir is management speak - they both interview like they have been to a management training course on positivity. When there is little to be positive about then you are into diversion and flannel. Trouble is everyone but them know it is a load of tripe they are flogging at times. In some ways, though it would run contrary to all the positive motivational management theory, it would be more refreshing (and may have more impact) if he came out and said that "most of these players are technically weak and don't have the guts for a fight and we need to replace them - its down to them to prove me wrong".

Not seen the Barnsley game yet but at the back our options at CH are so limited (even more so now Kennedy is out on loan) - its the elephant in the room. Top of the shopping list. Keeper wise neither inspire confidence. I'm sick of the million to one shots going in and neither command the box. Admittedly what is protecting them does not help.

I'm glad to see Brayford back for Freeman, who really is a poor defender to my mind - loses his man too often, especially at set pieces and he appears to lose concentration too easily. Personally I don't think Kieran Wallace did a great deal wrong at LB and is looks a better defender than Harris to my amateur eye. If Harris is a shoe-in at the moment I would consider giving K Wallace a try in the Doyle role as Hammond and Coutts have the same problem Doyle had - lack of pace. I would like to see Cuvelier given a go there as he is a six footer and certainly does have pace and is busy, but also injured a lot. Sigh. Someone like Millwall's Williams, Morsy at Chesterfield or even Ryan at Fleetwood would be more what we need. I like the look of Sawyers at Walsall too. I'd take Bradley Dack for Baxter.

Sammon offers little in the air for a big bloke, is an indifferent finisher and I would send him back and use the money elsewhere. From what I have seen on BP someone with a better presence in the air is needed up front I think.
I would rather have had Steven Davies than Sammon. I think he would compliment Done and sharp really well. Would prefer Hanson but doubt they would part with him.

If he's on 20k a week he's far from poor.

Where did you get that figure from? Made it up?

Read it carefully....... I never said he had been given a small fortune? Obviously there is no chance of that!
Now whos looking the daft twat!!!!
Oh dear ! someone not very happy this morning, perhaps got an headache ? my reply was meant as a joke regarding a "small fortune" you know humour or gallows humour whichever, as for daft twat i will let you work that one out !!!

I think Cuvelier is 5'9, although even in this photo he's trying to show everybody he is a six footer:

All for a bit of humour as mine was intended too...... But you just hadn't read the post properly!! No headache for me, only from watching the blades

Rather have Higdon than Sammon if I am honest. Money should have been spent elsewhere in the summer and didn't need a period of looking at this squad to see what's wrong.

He made changes not as many as I thought but who does he put in instead?

When he talks consequences he obviously means certain players will get offloaded in January.

We are totally reliant on other clubs actually wanting any of our players in January, not as loans but permanent, that's what I would take as offloading. His hands are tied as the players he wants to clear out are contracted till June, so they don't have to move on permanently till then unless some team offers a similar deal, which is not very likely. January has become a massive milestone again NA has to get his recruitment right this time his future may depend on it.

I think we're more likely to loan players out until the end of the season than anyone will buy them. No one is likely to be able to afford their wages for longer than a short period or we will have to accept partial payment of them. The only player who might go is Che. Done maybe as well.

The offloading will occur in June, hopefully NA will not offer a contract to any of the players who's contract expire at that time. The list includes some players supporters rate, but those players have been part of a squad that has failed to gain promotion, some over the entire period we have spent in this league, so it's thanks but goodbye for me. NA recruitment, if he is given funds, is the most important aspect in January, he must surely address the areas we needed last season and still require today.

We've already sent 4 out on loan that beforehand we'd have thought the same about. There could still be lots of movement in January though how much of the wages they pick up is another matter.

I believe we also changed the formation? I don't think we've lost under Adkins when we've started in a 4-3-3.

Got to think that that somewhat ugly/functional midfield of Coutts/Hammond/Basham is the template for now, to try & dig us out of this self-created hole.

It seems to free the Bash to make his bursts forward - something, going by the radio commentary, that sounded like it worked well yesterday. And, theoretically at least, it's solid.

Didn't see Sharp yesterday Sitwell and if he played well then I am pleased, saw him at Crewe and Walsall and he was shite. My point about his 20K wages was that I think the money could have been better spent. He went from Southampton in 2014 who were in the Premier League to Leeds and signed for us 2015, what kind of money was he on at Southampton do you think?

Well, it's reasonably solid and we were the better side yesterday for most of the game but Barnsley were poor opposition. The problem with that midfield is that it offers no goal threat. Obviously, Basham did score but from a set play and both he and Coutts showed their limitations by missing decent chances in open play in the second half. Coutts skied over the bar when the ball came out to him on the edge of the box with the goal gaping after a scramble and Basham snatched at a decent chance, also on the edge of the box, pulling it a yard or two wide of the far post. I'd have backed Baxter to at least hit the target given the same chances and that's what he brings to the team - goals from midfield.

I agree with the comments on this thread about Sharp having a decent game yesterday. The miss first half (which led anyway to the corner from which we scored) came from a good ball over the top which he did well to bring under control and get a shot in, a bit like his goal at Bradford. The miss second half was just one of those things - he was left with little option but to shoot because the position Done ended up in precluded a sideways pass. He'd been unselfish earlier when he chased down a hopeless ball into the corner, kept it in, cut along the line and played it across, nearly leading to a goal.

I thought Brayford was the best player on the pitch yesterday by a country mile. So does a Barnsley fan I chatted to this morning.

I'm not against Adkins as such but I struggle to find any positives that others appear to be able to see.

He was good at Southampton and Scunny, but here, his interviews lack substance, his signings have been (IMO) very poor,he hasnt been able to motivate the current squad and some of his decisions seem naive at best.....what am I missng?? Give me hope someone please!?
