They still use it at Prem grounds in the FA Cup. Got to love VAR's typical consistency.
It’s crackers they used it in semi finals and final last year in league cup too

Whether he intended to or not is irrelevant. It was a reckless, high challenge that most refs would give a red for and understandably so. Winning the ball doesn’t matter at all with reckless tackles like that.
Spot on
Hi foot has high in the follow through because of the force of the challenge. The ball is on the floor when he wins it. His foot only becomes ‘high’ in the follow through, as per every time a player kicks a ball.
Sean Dyche talking about it, reckons it was a red. His players not happy with the tackle. Will the next game against Burnley turn into a grudge match?

That’s why they bought the rule in, to stop players injuring opponents with the follow through
His foot his high because that’s what happens when you kick a ball.
If their player hadn’t backed out of the tackle they’d have kicked the ball at the same time, there wouldn’t have been a follow through and there (most likely) wouldn’t have been an injury. There also wouldn’t be a discussion about it.
Robinson has fully intended to go in hard because that’s how pro’s tackle (see O’Connell and Fleck in particular), there’s no way he’s intended to injure the player.
Intent has nothing to do with it though. His foot his high because that’s what happens when you kick a ball.

Your foot only goes high if it’s out of control. Not every tackle ends up with your studs 2 foot in the air at all.
seems you’re mistaking tackling and kicking
Still out of control in close proximity to the player. He kicked the ball. I suggest you watch it again.
The point is, he was out of control. If he just cleared it and stayed on his feet there wouldn’t or shouldn’t be an issueI vaguely recall an incident at the last women’s World Cup where Spain were awarded a penalty after one of their players ran into the upswing of a clearance. Utter nonsense.
Contact from the action of cleanly kicking the ball unchallenged is not the same as a two-footed lunge as some seem to think. It’s not a challenge, it’s a clearance.
Hopefully the injury won’t be as bad as first appears and he makes a quick recovery.
That's rubbish, he played the ball which is his right, and the follow through caught their player, it was high but i couldn't see how he could have controlled his leg on a follow through within a legitimate tackle, it's always going to be a difficult decision when these happen, some will get a yellow for the "high leg" some will get sent off for a rash tackle, it's football.
Some are seeing this through very red and white tinted glasses it seems
Intent or not, clear red, he follows through with both feet off the floor, studs raised and incredibly high boot, sort of challenge that can end a lads career ffs
It was reckless and uncontrolled
Probably an unpopular view here but if you don’t think Jack Robinson knew exactly what he was doing in that tackle you’re either being wilfully ignorant or you’ve never played football before, IMO. Deserved a red for how high he connected on his leg. If that had been on our player and he then had to be stretchered off we’d be fuming.
You have a point about strong tackles being part of the game, but don't call the kid a prick for getting injured in a tackle, it didn't serve him right.
This is the most obvious recent comparison that I can recall involving United. The general consensus on this forum following that Sordell challenge was that it was an unfortunate accident without intent and I agree with that, note that Sordell was high and got nowhere near the ball and Coutts caught his foot on the follow through. If we can give Sordell the benefit of the doubt then the same should apply to Robinson, no intent other than to win the ball. It looks so much worse than it was due to the strange position Gudmundsson got himself into.

There's not a new angling shop opening then??!
You can be strong in the tackle and stay in control thoughWas he just strong in the tackle?
Weak tackles can cause damage to yourself.
Only he will know what his intention was
