Robinson’s not so sharp for Blades
09:59am 2nd June 2007 Comments Comments (1)

Sheffield United have given a clear indication that they have given up their fight to stay in the Premiership, even before the arbitration panel meets later this month to finally rule on the West Ham points debacle.

Blades chairman Terry Robinson is included among the list of delegates flying to Portugal next Wednesday for the Football League summit on the Algarve.

And the club did not send representatives, as they had threatened, to the Premier League summer meeting this week where talk on the relegation issue was limited by sub judice before the arbitration case on June 18-19.

Robinson’s expected presence in Portugal is being put down to him being a former Football League board director before the club’s one season in the top flight and the Sheffield boss having many friends travelling on the FL junket.

But Robinson and League officials will have to be careful on the legal front about any votes taken during the meeting in which Sheffield United participate. These could bind them to the Championship before their fate is decided.

It’s likely that Robinson will abstain from any voting issue, which makes him putting his name down for the FL trip all the more surprising — unless he’s looking to buy a house in Portugal.

The meeting is being sponsored by a firm who sell holiday homes.

Given up the fight then after all that.

What should we expect now ? a moral victory ?

could be going for a holiday home as it says?
