RND is blatantly a LWB not a LB. In that position he looks like he'd be absolutely spot on. Unfortunately we aren't playing it atm.

If we are going to persist with 4 at the back then he needs replacing it's as simple as that as he's not cut out for that role and IMHO Enda will stroll back in when fit.
 



Based on tonight's performance its easy to say he gets caught out of position defensively way too much, can't cross, cant/won't overlap and can't beat his man going forward. Was it just a bad day at the office? Who knows. He wasn't great. But he wasn't awful either.

I do think he's not a wing back or attacking full back though. Got to stick with him for now though and his performances should improve with a competent defender at his side. But he needs to work on his attacking side of his game. So have a lot of players to be honest. Another game where we were far too static and resorted to the wanky sideways and backwards passing again.

I’m not sure he has the pace to be a good wing back.

RND is a better option than the Stevens we saw all last season. I really hope he can rediscover some form

It is subjective, you are right.

I don't recall calling or inferring that you are an arsehole. If you are comfortable with your own arsehole, I think that's great. Enjoy it, stretch the limits of its usefulness and give it a match rating 🍻
 
United don't have any good full backs. We're very well stocked with quality wing backs though. United only have one, maybe two, decent centre backs in a back four (Egan, Davies?). Despite this we play with a back four even when one of them is out?. Our two centre midfield anchors are also average at best out of possession(Fleck Norwood) so said backline comes under much more direct pressure than it should do. All that little lot is the manager's fault by the way. Football is a game based on "in possession and out of possession". We are anything from an 7, 8,9,in possession; and a 2 or 3 (at best) out of possession. It says it all when Ndiaye and Gibbs White win more tackles and cover more ground than Norwood and Fleck.

We are a team that constantly gets done on transition; doesn't track runners, and barely wins a header. Spineless. At this rate we'll play the best football in the division and finish twelfth. We'll smash quite a few teams though, and have a lot of big scorelines. We'll be the great entertainers!

On a brighter note: Davies will help us break high presses easier with his passing. He'll hopefully also do the basics right defensively. Berge will open up the right side with his passing and interplay and quality crossing. George has taken his ball home in terms of going forward and we were "left side United" rather than the "right side United" we've been when Berge has played in some of the other home games. This changed when Berge came on and was moved to the right. With Berge in the team we'll have outlets left, right and middle - the game will open up and we'll score a lot of goals.

We are crying out for pace, athleticism and bite in the middle. If Slav doesn't find a solution for this it will probably hinder us all season.

So, let’s agree that your football analysis comes across as that of a small child, but your ability to pick up on spelling mistakes might earn you a GCSE in English when you get there.

It’s the defending he struggles with in a 4. We’ve not seen Enda in a 4 yet so that might be fun too!! Saying that, Egan is hardly solid as a rock in a 4 either!!

I really like RND. I think there are certain instances where we have weaknesses in a four and teams seem to know and play us for it. Whether it’s time to get used to it, train to address it, I don’t know. I think we’re used to having that third centre back getting us out of the shit but moaned we didn’t have enough going forward so we can’t have both. We should have scored four tonight really. Other days we will. Sometimes we won’t. I’m replying to you because I broadly agree with your post btw and don’t really understand the bashing on this thread.

Are you genuinely suggesting we debate over GCSE English? I thought I was on a Sheffield United forum and posted as such but if I'm not worthy as a Southern Blade I'll look elsewhere. Clearly not worthy.

Every cross hit the first man, when he tried to take his man on he was shrugged off the ball pretty easily. Everything he did lacked quality. The only positive I would give him is that, unlike Baldock, he does at least attempt to take positive actions, even if the execution is poor.

I'm not sure I see much of an upgrade on a really bad Enda Stevens, a very weak Max Lowe and an out of position Ben Osborn. Shame we let Kean Bryan go. For all his faults his delivery was often excellent.

On reflection my post needed an “is” as it was a general summary of my thoughts on him, rather than this performance in isolation.
 
I think RND been spending too much time with Mr Burke. Ran the ball out of play multiple times thinking he was Usain Bolt only to be comfortably beaten by the touchline or his opposite number. Defensive poor positioning as well.

FWIW both whoscored and sofascore gave him a lower resting than Robinson tonight.
 
To be honest I’m not a big fan and don’t think he’s the answer. Stevens was poor last season but who wasn’t. In our first Championship season he was solid, in our promotion season he was arguably POTY (especially in the latter half). Definitely still the first choice left back in my opinion.

Stevens was hampered by injury last season hopefully the injury is behind him now and he can step back in to his spot. They targeted Robinson and Norrington Davies today not difficult for a scout to find our weak side.

But he’s not… He’s a young lad, here on a long-term contract, playing in only his second season at this level. So it’s a pointless statement.

I like the look of him to be fair and think he’s only going to get better as he develops.

Also don’t forget last night he had Robinson providing him with defensive cover…
 
They're fullbacks not wingbacks but there seems to be a misguided expectation that they'll just play like before.

We have no defensive midfielders. If they go forward and they lose the ball there's a big gap. You could see RND refused to go past (overlap) Freeman several times. as the game wore on. They look to have been instructed not to unless we're breaking.

I think Enda is the only defender comfortable playing at fullback.
 
Let's not get too carried away with Enda being the saviour. He played 32 games last year with an average rating of 4.4 so that suggests he is completely shot as a player. Countless games he failed to track his runner and just gave up.

Having played at c/half you need to have trust in your partner, it's the same as full back you need to know the c/half has your back ,Robinson isn't up to it I would rather he played bash or lopata, he looks jittery most of the time
 
Stevens will likely be much better when in a side playing positive football like the last couple of games.

It's not magic that has made Fleck and Norwood good again. It is confidence, attacking football and a just a positive overall team approach. Should not be that hard to grasp.

It's not like their football ability went from premiership quality to league 1 over night. It's all about the above.

been saying the same thing mate, Enda regains a bit of the confidence Fleck and Norwood have found, he will be more than just fine...

i wish that all the hype around RND was reflected in his performances. In the first half there were numerous opportunities for him to overlap Freeman (who was waiting and screaming at him to do so) but he just didn’t seem to get it. I think he also gets bullied (or is it ‘old manned’) off the ball too much. At the moment, this level looks a step too high for him.
 
The left hand side of defence certainly looks a weak area defensively but as others say, I'm more inclined to give RND the benefit of the doubt with JR playing.

But he's not though, is he? He's 22 and OUR player who has still got plenty of time to develop.

That's the perspective needed.
