RIP Vikki Orvice

Sun football journalist amongst other things, died aged 56 this morning. I’m fairly sure she was a Blade. I think I remember her writing an article following the Overmars Arsenal game back in 98/99 ish admitting she was a United fan.

I’m guessing she was originally a Sheffielder as well

Hawksbee and Jacobs have just talked about her on Talksport.

Saying she’s received plenty of special tributes which shows how well liked and respected she was.
Paul Hawksbee said when he was in journalism some places can be quite intimidating and he remembers Vikki would always support him and other young and new journalists to help settle them down. He said she had a human side but was no fool, wasn’t afraid to speak her mind and was very well respected. They didnt mention her Sheffield or Blades connection.

I met her once, a good few years ago now. I wanted her to talk about her experiences as a female breaking into the male world of sports journalism, all she wanted to talk about was Sheffield United. Said it all.

A true lady of steel. RIP

Thoughts go out to her family.

As someone else mentioned the tributes coming in from all over sports journalism speak for themselves, but her husbands tweet really sunk me as it’s a loss that a fair few of us will have to experience in our lives, due to this awful disease.
Very sad but also very poignant words.

We will all die of summat, sooner or later. But it’s the ability of cancer to sneak up on our loved ones, and linger, which is so devastating.

Whilever it’s there and they are alive, there’s a hope. And that’s what’s so cruel about it.

I’ve often wondered which is hardest to deal with? A sudden unexpected death, like a heart attack, or a long lingering death, like cancer?

I’ve come to the conclusion that both are equally difficult to deal with. One you can’t prepare for at all, the other you can’t prepare for emotionally either.
