Former Blades defender at the time of Eddie and John Flynn. Just announced.

I'm not surprised that we dipped that day to the Welsh cloggers. The pitch from that picture looks like the Somme in July 1916.

Looked promising when he first broke into the side as young player... RIP.

Where's Pompey and a Desso rant when you need them?

Knew him when he kept The Eagle Tavern in Mansfield.A very genuine and modest man, kept a cracking pint of Double Diamond. RIP and God bless Mac.

A Blade passing is always sad news, RIP Ian, I enjoyed watching you play when you got the chance.

I realise we are all getting old but when you hear of the passing of people you knew from yesteryear it's difficult to think of them other than when they were young.

RIP Blade. There'll be a few up there from that 1970's team waiting to welcome you.

RIP Ian , Decent defender who was never really a regular while we had Flynn , Colquhoun etc , but usually did a good job when called on .

I saw us draw 1-1 at Norwich many years ago and seem to recall Mackenzie scored - perhaps SB could confirm or otherwise?

He didn't score in that game. He was a late replacement for Eddie Colquhoun who felt ill during breakfast at the hotel the team were staying in. The club called Ian to tell him to travel by train to Norwich. Think he arrived at the ground half hour before kick off.

Ian scored 3 times for the first team. The home FA Cup match against Cardiff in Jan 1972, the Watney Cup match at Peterborough in August 1972 (can be viewed in you tube) and in the 3-0 home win against WBA in January 1973.

Remember him well! Looked like he could make a decent player at one time. Don’t know what became of him playing wise after he left us?

He can’t have been very old can he? RIP to the lad anyhow.

The mind plays some weird and wonderful things doesn’t it. Thank you once more for putting me right
