What a shame i knew Gilly well went on many a Parkgate bus with him and the likes of Steady, Zal and the Lynskeys , Brighton I think was the first way back in 76 i think . Always loved travelling with the Rotherham Blades always made the Sheffield lads welcome . RIP Gilly thanks for the Great times .

There are 2 Gilly's in Rawmarsh, both big Blades. Alan was the "scruffy one" who had a heart of gold and a fantastic laugh !! He was a loveable rougue!
I lived near him and have I've travelled to loads of games with him, the 4th div days being the best. We took a coach from the "scala" in Rotherham to every game and the cameraderie still brings a tear to my eye when I think back.
My lad is in his early 20's and the "craic" he has is not just the same as when we used to turn out of the Adam & Eve straight into a builders van full of crap, and head off to some far flung game.
Its getting to that time of life when the old lads start falling, which is all the more reason that we have to enjoy the ride we are on now.
A few lads are already talking about nominating a day and have a good drink for Gilly...... the tales will be long and the smiles wide. RIP Gilly

Funeral is this Friday at 3.

The family are releasing red and white balloons when they return on the playing fields opposite his bungalow on Netherfield Lane Parkgate.

All welcome for a drink and a reminisce about Gilly, from half 3 onwards.
Flags or anything red and white, plus funeral flowers will be left outside his home, number 88.
