RIP Feller. Looked a robust individual in the stripes. My dad's first and middle names were also Francis and Joseph, coincidentally.

He was only 62. Any idea what he carked it from?

He didn’t play much for us, the first time I saw him was away at Port Vale and he scored the openeing goalwhen we scraped a 3-3 draw with Deano getting the late equaliser and for me, Joseph stood out that night above both him and Tony Agana.

I’m used to players from my youth in the 60s passing away, I think of him as part of the new generation and 62 seems like no age, very sad.

Very sad news. I was lucky enough to meet him once after a game. He had just got injured and I was passing on my dissapointment as I was enjoying watching him play for us. His response really stuck with me and to this day I still use what he said. He said "Always expect the unexpected, thats life" it really struck me how level headed he was. He seemed a really nice bloke. Very sad news indeed.

I remember him from my Harry's Game video that I used to watch non-stop, did he score the winner in that crazy game against Brighton?

Sad news. 62 is no age and he was seemingly a decent fella. Remember him making his debut along with Brian Deane making his down at Elm Park in August 1988. He played well that day, led the line and scored a good goal in a 3-1 win for us. Lovely sunny day too. Seems like a different life now that day.

Was there for that match, enjoyed his approach to football which was no doubt echoed in his approach to life.
RIP

I was there that night too behind the goal at Port Vale. When I saw his name I instantly thought about this match 3-3 draw match too. He played well that night and as you say looked a really good striker.

John Francis/Francis Joseph is one of my first ever United memories. RIP

Yes I was there that day on the open terrace behind the goal. Seems like no time at all.

RIP

Remember that night well. Specifically the bloody fog on the drive down

That night at Port Vale was a memorable one. Deano's late equaliser was one of those moments.

Francis Joseph's first-half strike had me believing we were in it to compete that season, and so it proved with us, Wolves, and Port Vale occupying the top three spots for most of the campaign.

Really sad news. As I recall he started in the 3-1 win at Reading on the opening day 1988/89, then he got injured and that's when the famous Deane/Agana partnership was born. So sad when you think how many players from our comparitively recent past are no longer with us. RIP.

Sad to hear. Part of that fantastic 88/89 season and always think of that game at Reading.

Sad news RIP

Scored in our opening win of that promotion season but then went off injured, the sub who replaced him was Tony Agana and the rest is history.

Saw him play a few games for the reserves when coming back from the injury. Was impressed with his finishing. Came back to 1st team and scored at Port Vale but got injured again. Came back against Gillingham, scored and then got injured again. Had bad luck with injuries

This season was the first I attended fairly regularly. I think folk remember so many little details about their early seasons, and Joseph was one of those details for me.

Even if he wasn’t a regular behind Deane and Agana, his name is forever part of that season.

The Four Tops!

Deane, Agana, Joseph and Francis.

Back in the day when Bassett had assembled his promotion team and we regularly gave teams a right battering.

RIP. No age.
