Seem to remember there was something in the programme that Mitch Ward (ex Judo youth Champion) surprised Big Francis one time by throwing him over his shoulder during some playful team bonding! I'm very sure 3 of those players never played for us in the 88/89 season.

Andy Barnsley, Paul Williams and Wally Downes.

Barnsley played right back at Gillingham in the 3rd game, and I think played at least once more.
Williams played twice, I think, once at Bristol Rovers when Deano was suspended, and once as a sub
Downes didn't play. he was injured in pre-season in a private practice game v Wednesday and had to retire. His namesake Chris Downes (no relation) played a couple of games.

Of the 3 goalies in the photo, only Graham Benstead played. Andy Leaning left before the season began. I think the other one is Paul Heald, who went to Leyton Orient around that time. We got Simon Tracey as cover instead....

If I recall correctly we signed Tracey in Oct, sold Leaning in Nov and Heald in Dec to Bristol City and Leyton Orient respectively.

I have double checked and that’s exactly right, though Leaning had been on loan at Bristol City in October.
