Billy McEwan, our manager from 1986 to 1988 has died. Managed on a shoestring budget and brought a lot of young players through. RIP

Sadly Alzheimers and Parkinsons are all too common among footballers his age. MND too.He was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease some years ago
Gerry Forrest who was Billy's teammate at Millers recommended Wilder to Billy when Gerry was at Southampton.Really sorry to hear that. I have some vague memories of Porterfield, but Billy McEwan was the first Blades manager that I really knew about. I believe that he signed Chris Wilder and so started that particular chain of events, which is a good legacy.
He played for us in a testimonial at Saltergate for an ex team-mate of his in May 1986. Could that be it?Remember him coming to one of the awards nights for our local footie team (I was a player in the team) when he was SUFC manager and he was a very nice chap. Not the best results wise at United but he managed in a difficult time for Utd. I remember him coming on as substitute in his early 40s at an away game when we were struggling for players. Importantly he tried and did his best for Utd. That'll always do for me. God bless Billy.
I take it you are talking about the fans that were put in the stadium early by the police? That was John Burridge who came out with the tray of teas for those that wanted them. Billy could have also done that at some point but I don’t recall it apart from Burridge.I may be mistaken here as I was a young teenager, Bradford City away at the odsall stadium .I'm nearly positive I remember billy handing out cups of tea to the Blades fans at the front .We were on side terrace .I'm sure a blades fan got run over and either seriously injured or maybe killed
Like I say long time ago and this is just from memory so if I'm wrong i apologise
Wow I was right then ,perhaps it may have been budgie ,I was about 14 at the timeI take it you are talking about the fans that were put in the stadium early by the police? That was John Burridge who came out with the tray of teas for those that wanted them. Billy could have also done that at some point but I don’t recall it apart from Burridge.
And yes a Blade was sadly killed that day.
