I lived next door to her daughter Amanda for a while and met Ray and Barbara through her. They were down to earth people with an enormous generosity of spirit. They really cared about other people and the wider needs of the community.

Congratulations Barbara, on a life well lived. I suggest a BDTBL round of applause to remember her.

To my shame I don't remember seeing Barbara's story, so what she did is news to me as his her death, sadly.

I grow increasingly weary of this world and the self serving twatishness of many who occupy it, so to hear of someone breaking rank and acting selflessly really does warm the heart.

Hi SP as you know them. Barbara was in the NG hospital for 12 days and Ray, Mark, Shaun and Amanda plus other close family members were with her 24/7 for 9 of them once they knew that the outcome wouldn’t be good, they worked out a rota between them.

When Bar worked for the NHS, there was more than one occasion when she refused to leave a dying patient alone until their family could get there, so she stayed on after her shift to hold their hand and talk to them. Ray and her family promised that they’d do the same for her when her time came.

She died very peacefully mate and somebody was holding her hand.

Your parents are very highly thought of. My mum was saying to me on the phone yesterday how sorry she was to hear the news and she’d never met them, only new of them since reading about their win in the Star back in 2000.

Never had the pleasure of meeting your mum mate but if I can aspire to show half the generosity of spirit your parents have shown I will count myself to have lived a good and decent life. You should be rightly proud of her and your dad.
