Blades 1-2 Bristol City - Dominated and should've been at least 2-0 up at half time. Sucker punched, 1-0 down at half time. Fleck gets sent off, Wilder still goes for the win, we concede a last minute winner - resulting from a fluked cross. And against a play off rival.

Blades 0-1 Villa
- We were the better team and if anyone deserved to win it was us. But their keeper makes a number of good saves, and in the last minute Stevens decides to show the best left foot in the Championship inside from the right to shoot.

Ipswich 0-0 Blades
- Controlled the game from start to finish against very poor opponents with nothing to play for and didn't even manage to get a goal. Lundstram deciding not to score sticks in the mind.

Brentford 1-1 Blades
- Very good away performance unrewarded thanks to numerous missed chances and Brentford scoring a scruffy goal after having nothing all game. 3 points thrown away, again against play off rivals.

Blades 1-1 Cardiff
- Best home performance for a long time. Dominated against a top team and there should have only been one winner but instead we concede another very avoidable late goal at the Bramall Lane end.

Blades 1-1 Millwall
- Crucial game against direct competition for 6th place. They're happy with a draw, and we're the better team. We finally grind them down only to surpass ourselves and throw it away immediately, straight from kick off.

At least another 10 points for us there including crucial ones gained over play off rivals.

And I know there are more. We genuinely should've been comfortably within the top 6. It's not like we've even got more than we deserved in any more than 1 or 2 games.

Our propensity to throw games away has become a bit silly now.

But getting 2 points from Pigs, Hull, Barnsley, Bolton, Forest second games is a big killer for me. 13 points dropped and 5 pretty bad performances

I know other teams might also point to games that they should have won and say we aren't the only ones, but in the last 8 games we've won 2 - maybe I've got Blades tinted glasses on here but we could and probably should have won all 8.

Millwall leading and should have won but let in soft goal
Boro - won
Barnsley - Somehow lost after being in front with 10 to play.
Cardiff - as Ricky already said, should have won, last minute equaliser was undeserved
Brentford- again threw it away from a winning position
Forest - ok not a great performance but still the better side
Burton - won
Ipswich - how that ended 0-0 I'll never know.

That takes us to Fulham where we were deservedly beaten.
So going back over the last 8 games i think it's 13 points dropped. Feel free to disagree but i honestly think we should have won them all

Isn't playing well and not winning a very bad sign though? If playing poorly and winning is the sign of a top team what we are doing at the moment can't be healthy and if it continues we'll be in the shit next season.

Depends though Richard, you'd need to compile a list of the other teams missed opportunities as well as I'm pretty sure that the majority of teams will have dropped points in games they didn't ought to have.

I think Brentford are the only ones who come close to us in the "we could win but let's not" department.

Bolton (H)
Birmingham (H)
Hull (A)
Dingles (A)

Add those to the mix.

Still, we shouldn't be expected to do our job. We're little plucky Sheffield United and it's been a graaaaate season and we should just be happy to be here.

Let's just ignore the glaring shortcomings and pretend that the season ended on 24th September.

I add Middlesborough A Clarke was unmarked 10yds out but never even got a shot & disallowed goal

Birmingham H - Birmingham had 1 shot scored we battered them for 90mins could only manage 1 goal

Barnsley A- 2-1 & chucked it away

just off top of my head. But i remember going through it last week ive got 22pts

Ricky - don't get me started. Me and my old man were going over this the other day. It's incredibly frustrating and as far as I can gather, has happened to United far more than anyone else this season.

I know we fluff way too many chances and fanny about at the last second a lot, but will we ever come up against an opposition goalkeeper who is just having a bad day? They all seem to have the game of their lives against us- the Millwall lad yesterday being the latest.

Then again, Blackman and Moore have pulled a few worldies off as well; maybe oppo fans have said the same about us.

This thread doesn't even account for the boring games where we just failed to turn up:

Bolton at Home
Pigs at Home
Hull away

Every fan will have this view of their team unless they have a moron like Adkins in charge and Dean Hammond in midfield, in that case every loss is fully deserved and in fact is an act of Karma for employing such people.

.. and yet. we're still in it..
ps you forgot Barnsley :D
this is football. this is the championship. the results go all over the place because the teams are so evenly matched.. playing 3 bottom clubs in a row does NOT guarantee 9 points like in the prem.
just because other teams have 3 games doesn't mean they will win them all

Most teams set up to absorb pressure and hit you on the counter ,our game is based on possession.so we will have more of the ball ,it's what we do with it that counts

You could argue that although statically we are playing better than the opposition they ate actually executing their game plan better although that doesn't account for our strikers turning to shit in the 6 yard box and our defenders losing their shit and blog to g their copy Brooks with at least one total switch off a game

i'm assuming that was sarcasm luke.. however interesting to note the people that liked it :D

Personally I'd get rid today, no time like the present and all that and no point waiting until he's screwed another training session up tomorrow. He's taken us as far as he can and we're in decline since November so it's obvious what we need to do. What we need is a real student of the game, ignore any fans or ex-players as they never get us anywhere.

outed. ;)

Looking back we should have won every game this season! I agree there have been a disproportionate number of games we should have won as we were creating more chances.
For balance I would say we were not on top when we scored the winner at home to Leeds. Brentford at home we were a shade fortunate to get the three points. And as for Hull away I don't know how anyone can say we deserved anything from that game.

Add the points we've thrown away without Coutts to the points we would've have had with him in the team - automatic promotion?! It's not an outrageous thought.

Although Coutts' absence was a big factor at the time and responsible for the immediate dip in results, we've had plenty of time since plus a JTW to sort that one out. Someone correct me but we seem to have a different midfield out every week and whichever one we start with is not the one we finish the game with. Then there is the $64k question about Holmes, wtf. So yeah, Coutts absence has hit us for six but not quite in the simple terms most people envisage.

We struggle to kill games off. We sit back and drop deep to hold onto a lead. Apart from yesterday when we naively switched off

The strikers, albeit feeding off scraps much of the time, have done well to reach their goal tally. I know it's the nature of the job but both Billy and Leon should have scored more, especially if we didn't fanny around so much with the ball out wide.
