Robinson was quoted as saying he was lining up a loan move for Carruthers before the Chairman pulled the plug...

Wasn't that "hear say" though?, someone saying they bumped into Robinson and asked him on player movements ?

I wouldn't be keen to offload Carruthers permanently. He's got time on his side and was pretty much our best player at Ipswich, playing a bit deeper.

If we're to sign Holmes then I'd hope we don't have to go too far above 300k+ plus Carruthers on loan.

And if he goes on loan and does well, his value increases. Then we could be in the lovely position of being able to screw Karl Robinson over as other clubs come in with more than he can afford.

Suppose we could see a loan-swap with a view to a permanent for both players at the end of the season?

I am by no means someone with an agenda against Carruthers, but WHAT? He was really poor. I said that at the time, and it’s been born out by the other views on the performances: https://www.s24su.com/forum/index.php?prs/game/414/

I think unless we financially need to get rid though we might as well keep him in the squad and restrict him to opportunities to play in the advanced role.

People see what they want and expect to see. They focus on the negatives. He played it out for a throw a couple of times and people remember that. But throughout the game he was comfortably our best player with the ball. First half in particular, in the deeper role. Absolutely no way was he 'really poor'. That simply is bollocks.

Just looked at those player ratings and they're absolutely laughable.

I just don’t see where carruthers fits in in the middle. Especially with Evans and Leonard signing on. Not writing him off but think he missed the chance to cement himself here when coutts got injured - must be hard when everything has been so stop start for him but for me he doesn’t get on the bench once brooks is back.

Imo he’s been a good impact player (and one that can do something different and exciting ) but I don’t think he has the discipline to play the roles required in the 2 or the end product of Duffy or brooks.

A makeweight in the Holmes deal sounds like the best solution all round

I don't think Evans and Leonard have changed anything, they are both more defensive midfielders and will play in the two (coutts, fleck, lundstram).
Samir was signed to play as the one attacking midfielder (duffy, brooks). Turns out that Brooks has been used more as a striker than in the one, so unless we sign another attacking midfielder (holmes, kent, other) he will stay.

Duffy/Holmes

Fleck/Leonard - Lundstram/Evans

I personally think that is how Wilder looks at it. He prefers to use young Brooks upfront from what I have seen and I believe he only uses him in Duffys roll at times as he has been pretty limited with Carruthers not firing.

If you’re putting me into that category, that is nonsense, particularly where Carruthers was concerned. Part of making the trip was in the hope that this might be the turning point in some kind of revival on his part, as I thought he was near guaranteed to start this one. It was not. Ignoring the obvious (the dugout passes you mentioned) he got caught in possession a few times simply due to not being aware of the situation and hit a number of corners that didn’t even reach the 6 yard box as they were cleared by the first defender. He had a spell where he was a bit more considered with the ball, but that was the exception to the performance. His best moment was making the run that Sharp picked out which sadly didn’t lead to a goal.

If you just focus on the smattering of completed passes, I’m sure he was man of the match. If you look at his overall contribution though, I can’t understand how you’ve come to the conclusion. I have no Carruthers axe to grind. I didn't turn up wanting to see him play poorly to justify an already-held view. It was just simply a poor performance. It might be his last performance. I, for one, hope it is not.

Not putting you in that category. And you're entitled to your opinion.

But I watched the game back on iFollow and he was one of our best players. Not everything came off for him but he was our best player in possession and the most likely to make something happen. I don't see how any fair minded fan couldn't see at least as much positive as negative from him.

For him to average 5.9 on the ratings with the likes of Wright and Stearman almost 9, Blackman almost 8 and even Lafferty up at 7.5 is a complete and utter piss take. That I am certain of. It only points to agendas.

Why would people have an agenda against Carruthers? I don’t rate him and never have. It’s an opinion not an agenda

A combination of not rating him and not thinking he's Bladey enough.

I think everybody (Karl Robinson, Chris Wilder, both sets of fans) would be happy from a footballing point of view with a deal which saw Carruthers and Holmes trade clubs with Charlton receiving £100-200k. But reading between the lines of Karl Robinson’s interview, I think their outgoing Chairman would rather receive full monetary value for Holmes, he’s looking for returns.

Could be wrong, but we’re in the Rumour Mill and that’s my guess.

KR quote - “But what I won’t do is just sell a player for the money. I’m sticking to my guns on that. I will need a replacement, immediately, and then we will use the money to strengthen the team.”

Could be a 2+2=5 situation, but the pieces do seem to fit.

Well said but once a boo-boy the only way he can find redemption on here is doing a 'Cockney Walk' or something when our emotions are high.

As I recall Lundstram's ratings were very low until he turned the tide.

Stearman was clearly (or at least I thought) the best player on the pitch, and that’s the first time this season I’ve said that. To suggest he wasn’t would in my view suggest an anti-Stearman (or overly pro-Wright) agenda. I stand by the ratings I gave the players at the time – all opinions though, but I would say they are agenda-free... https://www.s24su.com/forum/index.p...es-fa-cup-3rd-round.61161/page-2#post-1568170

Video of players arriving for tonights game by the official Twitter posted about 5:15. Carruthers is on there toward the end.

Might mean nothing, but IF he is part of any Holmes deal, it probably indicates its not happening soon.

Apparently Charlton are skint so not sure they'll want Samir's wages.

We need creativity so potentially a classic Wilder lower league signing.

Of course if I'm wrong I fully expect to be ridiculed, tarred and feathered.
