If we weren't interested.....then why not?
we're supposedly after the best players at this and league 2 level, but charlton has just took 3 of them.
 
Wilder on Sheffield Amateur TV Hour this evening said there were conversations at board level, but Holmes lives near Charlton given an offer he couldn't turn down.
 
Can't pretend that I knew anything about Holmes before this thing started so I'm sure as hell not going to get upset about us missing out on a fourth division winger.

But fuck me some ITKs are tedious. How many more Done Deals/99.9% Certains are we going to get before the bloody window shuts?

Far too many. Boring and a waste of time. At least I can and do ignore all ofthem
 
Nicky Ajose did well last year, but he's never had anyway near the scoring success consistently at the level Billy Sharp has.

Likewise, at 29, Ricky Holmes has not played consistently anyway near the level of Mark Duffy. At 29, perhaps he should have. He could be late to blossom or he could also be a flat track lower league bully. Remember how Graeme Hick used to smash county bowlers around? No way near as effective at a higher level.

Let's see what we do end up with before getting too excited.

I know it's only one game but Ajose was rhubarb at the Lane last season. Lightweight, ineffective and contributed nothing. Seems he may have an eye for goal but there was nothing at all impressive about him that day.
 

He won't have done anything to put Wilder off signing him next season, that's for sure.

But Moore made it far too easy for him with that free kick. Very poor from him, and the goalkeeping coach. They should bloody know that Holmes has the ability to put it over the wall like that. He gave him far too much to aim at. It was the same with Dack at Gillingham - that was another weak free kick that beat him.

It was just a pearler, let it go.
 
Did he even touch the ball after the first 10 minutes? Apart from the two shots he had that ended up in the top tier.

I thought his free kick was definitely saveable. No power, not even close to the corner and he was only going to put it one way so I'm not sure why Moore left so much space

I've said this about him before, but he seems to have a weird habit of trying to "tempt" a shot on one side from a free kick. I know that sometimes you can't get a clean view and you have to sacrifice position, but on a quick view it looked like he'd left him too much to aim for. Still, he's tons better that anything we've had for some years so I'm not complaining too much.
 
Cracking free kick today, and all that--albeit abetted by us conceding the free-kick in that position, then Mooro floundering at it like Mr Blobby.

But other than that, was Holmes really all that today ? I think I'd have him behind most of our midfielders, based on today anyhow.
 
I thought he had a decent game, tired in the second half but not surprised by the ground he covered. One thing I thought he did more than our midfielders was to cover the ground with ease - pace. Bearing in mind we might play different formations next year, I think he could do well.

Did he really? I must've missed that then, though I did see his two shots that hit the top tier.

On today's showing would you say he's better than any of our midfielders?
 
He was completely ineffective in the second half and lacked composure every time he got into a shooting position. He's a decent League One player, but since we don't want to be playing in League One, he should be nowhere near our transfer targets, he's not as good as Carruthers or O'Shea, who can't displace Duffy.
 
He was there main and only real threat. He picked it up in good spaces gave it to team mates who ended up losing it.

People saying he was quiet today etc, he's had there 3 best chances scoring 1. I don't remember our midfielders having many shots at all.

I would think he's an improvement and everyone seems to want pace on our team. Basham is no slouch and he dusted him for pace.
 
A good league one player but that's where it ends.

He is not as good as any of our Midfielders and we will probably need better than what we already have next season so how anybody could possibly want him here is baffling.
 
Excellent dead balls. Took up some good positions. I'd be concerned about his age and the price they'd want. He's knocking thirty.
 

Had a decent game today but Duffy has earned his chance in the league above when we get there and even if CW doesn't think he will make the step up his replacement is already at the club and he pisses all over Holmes for both age and ability.

Considering he's nearly 30 and we'd be looking at an absolute minimum of 500K to sign him it's a no from me now. I'd rather sign JOS on a free and let the 3 of them fight it out for that role.

Plus his man bun makes him look like an absolute cock
