southend on sea ,
just been signed on loan and straight into the squad for tonights game , just been confirmed by official text .

i have to say this signing fills me with no confidence. slow, old and ex piggy. we dont need another striker who is slow and quite frankly will offer nothing different to the team. never rated him.
i hope i live to regret saying all this tho. utb

Booed onto the pitch in true petulant "blades" style.

Well and truely pathetic.

I've booed the bloke in the past on the opposition side, I don't even rate him particularly (though he's not as bad as some make out).... But booing a new signing onto the pitch is pathetic.

Respect to him for still putting in the effort and his body on the line.

Booing him on thats nice. He's a Blade now,he has lots of experience and he has played for quite a few clubs in his career with only 31 matches for the unclean.Bromby and Geary did ok as Blades lets give him a chance.

Foxy, totally agree with the sentiments and I agree as a set of fans we are getting a reputation as moaners...BUT...it's not entirely unprdictable that he would get that reception.

I'm not saying our signings should be dependant on fan approval but bringing in a slow lump who used to play for the pigs and Leeds and has turned us down previously wasn't likely to be met with waves of joy was it?

Do you think it was booing because he`s an ex pig or booing because it looks like another long ball slow plodding non scoring signing form blackwell, who has plan A well & truly covered now.

Still pretty pathetic to boo the lad whatever the reason.

It was predictable, but only because of the petulant fan base we are becoming.

Fair enough not many wanted to sign him, but he's here and was coming onto the pitch in a blades shirt.

I'd rather everyone have stayed totally silent than boo him on.

For the record, I thought he got around the pitch fairly well for his slow reputation and he did actually make an impact on the game, even if it was only causing the defenders a little more trouble.

Anyone care to explain why "crap" target man Henderson should still be dropped for scoring 2? cus I can see that one coming :D

Not just a loan but a 2 year deal, straight from the horse's mouth on RS.

That is absolutely frightening. Wouldn't pay for someone with real pace but commit to two whole years wages for Cresswell.
Remarkable management.

The booing was a joke.

Kind of like the signing *facepalm*

I'm really stunned that we've signed another player of this nature.

I can't believe the number of Blades posting about how we should all be 'jolly well grateful' at the signing of an aged, over the hill player, who wouldn't even consider playing for us when he actually had something to offer, i.e. years ago, (on a 2yr deal at that!, blackwell,s truly lost the plot!!). Is this REALLY what you are now happy to accept at Bramall Lane?, is it Blades??, REALLY!!!. Cos I for one am NOT.

I didnt boo but he is not the sort of striker we need.

I disagree with the booing but this is far from an admirable signing. Lost his pace with age so he's now virtually inaffective, a couple of years ago he would be worth a punt. As for the Wednesday connections like he says he's a proffesional footballer wanting to impress, whatever the club, sure he might not kiss the badge on his chest when he scores but he must want the team to perform and I'm sure he will do his upmost to do this. But surely there's better players avaliable!

I think we've probably tried hard to get better, but right now, I think it was a case of at least getting one more body in, and nobody better was available.

The mistake for me was not building a strong enough squad in the summer, when plenty of players, home and abroad were available. Are we now paying the price for idolising the "Quality, not quantity" slogan?

Also rejected us a few times during his prime even when we were pushing for the play offs under Warnock.

Now he has lost his place at Stoke (thanks to them signing our top striker) he has come crawling to us probably because no one else will take him and he doesnt want to be warming the reserve bench at Stoke.

I guess we should have booed Paul McGrath, Stuart McCall, Gary Speed, James Beattie etc onto the pitch then :D

To be fair, after the boos there was a louder round of applause, I suspect to apologise for the boos, if you see what I mean. He certainly said the right things on P & G. As a short term loan I understand it. To offer him a contract to the end of next season I don't.

i think you are conveniently forgetting the fact he is a dyed in the wool wednesdayite who hasn't been exactly complimentary to us in the past.. to his credit though he was pretty cool about it on the radio

Well he couldnt really act any other way now he has signed. :D

Gary Cahill was a Wednesday fan, why did we not give him the same treatment?

He is in a blades shirt man, for however many minutes he wears that shirt and works for the team, he is a blade.

If we are to abuse anyone who isn't a confessed Blades fan for their entire life, we are soon going to run out of players to try out.

A large number of our own supporters arent complimentary about us, especially tonight... Should they not be allowed at the lane either?

Hm, Cahill was a young up and coming player with a good reputation and has since gone on to prove himself at the highest level.
Cresswell is over the hill, once turned us down and has been scuffling around the reserves for about two years.
It's not rocket science.

yeah but eggs is eggs.. cahill was a little less demonstrative about his personal preference from what i remember.. your other logic doesn't follow

Let me think about any other players described as young and up and coming.... Perhaps an international striker with a fairly decent record in the matches he's played... From a "big" premiership team.....

Ah no, can't think of any. I'm sure there was once a welshman of that description.

Not sure how my logic doesn't follow... they are both examples of what you categorise Cresswell as being.

Massive, massive overreaction about booing. Has everyone forgotten the end of Robson? The reverse at home to Wednesday last season?

Now THAT was booing.
