From the Belfast Telegraph...........

Sheffield United look set to join the chase for Newry City's rising start Richard Clarke, after an impressive display against the Blades on Saturday.

Rangers and Gillingham are also interested in the Newry captain, but all three will have to wait until after the Northern Ireland under-21 midfielder returns from a five day training stint with Bury starting today.

Bryan Robson's side beat Newry 3-1 with two late goals at The Showgrounds on Saturday and immediately afterwards the new Bramall Lane manager made enquiries about the 22-year-old.

"Bryan Robson was impressed by Richard and I won't be surprised if he follows it up," said Newry manager Gerry Flynn.

"We'll not stand in the lad's way if the right offer comes along, but obviously I'd prefer him to go across the water.

"He's off to Bury for five days to train. Keith Alexander with whom I played at Cliftonville is manager at Bury so I know the lad will be well looked after."

Since taking over as manager in February Flynn has been fighting off enquiries from Irish League clubs interested in one of his prized assets, but all those have been rebuffed.

Scottish giants Rangers had their scout at the game on Saturday and Gillingham were also represented.

Seem's the pre-season friendlies are bearing fruit then :D

There was a few players to take a look at other than him 2

there was a guy that played at number 7- Paddy Quinn and another one that played number 11 i think it was Feeney

Looks like he's getting a game for us...............

BRYAN Robson will get the chance to have a closer look at Irish starlet Richard Clarke in the final game of Sheffield United's three-game trip to Ireland tomorrow.

He caught Robson's eye last Saturday when he scored for his club Newry City as the Blades started their Irish excursion with a 2-1 win.

The 23-year-old midfielder has spent the last week on trial with Bury, but will return to Northern Ireland in time to guest for United when they face another Irish Premier League side, Portadown.

From SSN...

Sheffield United boss Bryan Robson has confirmed that he is interested in signing Newry City captain Richard Clarke.

The Northern Ireland U21 international featured for the Blades in their friendly against Portadown on Saturday and impressed Robson.

"I thought Clarke did very well because it is very difficult for a young lad to go in cold in such a game," Robson told the club's website.

"He moved round the pitch well and I will talk to the lad and his manager but there is plenty of other interest in him from England."

From the star...

The Sheffield United manager, who has now ruled out a move for Newry City captain Richard Clarke, has had an offer accepted by the Premiership club for Beattie, who has fallen out-of-favour at Goodison Park.

On Clarke, who guested for United during their recent trip to Portadown, Robson added: "I won't be doing anything there."
