CONFIRMED Rhian Brewster

Basham was singing his praises last night and saying how he's different to all the other strikers as he will shoot on sight and shoot early. This is something we miss, as shown yesterday when players kept taking an extra touch in good shooting positions before wasting a great opportunity (Arblaster/Brooks take note). When he came on the game had all but petered out. With Hamer, Brooks off and O'Hare later coming off there was literally no supply for him. So it's hard to judge him yesterday really.

I genuinely think with a run of games he'll come good and score a fair few, as he does shoot early, and with venom too, none of this pass it into the net bollocks.
🤞

Nobody's going to sign him from us with his track record on fitness.
We certainly can't and shouldn't rely on him to contribute anything, but it's unhelpful to be critical. He's a talented lad who might be able to help us. Not much else to it.
First line says it all for me. He’s not playing to impress to get a big money transfer, no one will risk that (unless there’s another club as daft as us). He’s needs to be playing for a new contract here while he rebuilds, if he can.

One thing worries me. Remember Kabba coming back after his leg fracture, he seemed scared stiff of it happening again and pulled out of tackles, checked back instead of going on a blistering run etc. Then it happened again, just like Brewsters hammy problem. Kabba was never the same again.

So want him to get back to his best (Swansea) and do it for him and us. Think Blades fans (and club) have been patient with him but this has to be his breakthrough season for us and himself.

Liverpool knew what they were doing, they must have been suspicious of his dodgy hamstrings but had the Citteh type insurance that if he turned out to be another messi they could pick our pocket again.

People writing him off after an 11 minute appearance are most likely the ones that were willing to drive Vini to the airport for a bag of maltesers etc.
Clean slate for me, if he's able to beat his injury demons he'll be like a new signing.
With more game time will come confidence, with confidence will come better performances and with that should hopefully come the goals.

Fingers crossed for him, he's a really likeable lad that's had horrendous luck with injuries. Really want to see him do well.

Don't get the Brewster hatred he's had bad luck with injuries. This season is a big one for him .came on yesterday when the game was over really so judging him on that is ridiculously stupid.

I’ve written him off after 5 goals in 60/70 appearances.

My one frustration with the match on Friday was the amount of times we attacked, got into really promising positions, and then tried to be over intricate with the final ball rather than pulling the trigger. Think CW alluded to it by me mentioning the final ball needing to be better.

There was one instance towards the end where we broke, think it was Brooks who had got down the right and was pulling it back. Went towards Moore and was knocked out for a corner. I looked at the options Brooks had on and all other United players were being marked, all with the exception of Brewster who was in a near perfect position for a pull back and was central. It was begging for thr ball to be pulled back to him and he would have had a golden chance to get his season of with a bang. You could see his reaction (frustration) when he didn't get it. Small observation but he was getting into the right position and was hungry to get on thr score sheet. I still think he could play a big part this season now that the front lads have been thinned out numbers wise. Fingers crossed for the lad.

We never gave up on Steve Kabba. Although, he shot himself in the foot after that Leeds game and fizzled away.

Completely understand that viewpoint. Numbers aren't good at all, other strikers have come back from worse.

Look at Dom Solanke.
In his first 3 premier league seasons for Bournemouth he scored 9 goals in 75 games.
He's just had a great season (coincided with Bournemouth improving massively) and gets a 60 million move off the back of it (year or two older than Brewster).

For several seasons we've been playing an outdated system that largely relied on brilliance of individuals (MGW, Ndiaye) to effectively carry the team.

This season, things have been shaken up. Playing a completely different system. Moore had more chances playing up front on Friday than strikers have had in several games combined in the last few seasons.

Both McBurnie and Brewster absolutely thrived at Swansea in a similar system that we're now playing and both struggled like fuck for us in the majority, it's not a coincidence.

Let's just see what the season brings if he stays fit. Fingers crossed we're all a lot happier with his output come May.

Fully agree. However, Solanke were doing it in a higher league, Brewsters struggled to make an impact in the championship with ourselves.

He’s never looked like scoring, but I’ll put that to one side for now..

He doesn’t make quality runs in the box (Swansea goal apart) he runs aimlessly around, has no positional sense as to where he should be, doesn’t contribute much to the team outside these aimless runs which are even less now due to injuries.

There’s no doubt a player in there, but I don’t think it’s a top two player, he’ll make a decent career in the lower leagues once his contract expires with us. Whether that’s harsh or not, it’s unfortunately the truth.

I seem to remember him playing in our promotion season, mainly as Danny Webbers back up. I think he played in the home Derby. He started calling himself Steven at this time. Apparently his real name is actually Sorfiyu Tejan Kabba.

I like his ability to take one touch and then release a shot. The problem is that these shots are often wayward

Unless Brewster can remain fit, it’s all a bit of a circular discussion.

Has he been poor because of injuries/fitness or is he just poor. I’m led to believe the former.

If we weren’t short of strikers I’d think he’d benefit from a month in the reserves or maybe a short term loan to lower leagues.

If Brewster plays 30+ games this year I think he’d potentially get double figures - and look a lot more like the player we thought we were getting.

However, just don’t see him not getting a lengthy injury and we are back to square one.

I agree that the final ball needs to be better but I’m not sure we’ll stop with the intricate passing.

I remember we used to over pass on the flanks during the overlapping CB days. I remember going mad at them for not putting an early ball in.

We paid 23m for him and its his last year of his contract. We don't have the budget to be buying loads of new players so surely we try to get the best of a fit and firing Brewster? (If fit)

He got like 7 in the first 7 games. First appearances after almost 2 years out. Then dissapeared.

multiple managers have said how good he is for dressing room.

Seems a great kid and one worth getting behind
Multiple managers? He's only played under two here!
He may well be a great kid in the dressing room. But I'd much rather see him be a great kid on the pitch.
He's a talented lad who might be able to help us.
I know he's been the injury prone but he's played the equivalent matches as more than a full season. How many goals did this ,'talented lad' score in this time? FIVE goals.
I don't hate him, I just don't see what a diminishing few see in him.
I too hope he comes good for us. But on the evidence I 've seen, I very much doubt that will happen.

I was very disappointed to hear the 'If Brewster scores we are on the pitch' chant on Friday. How sickening must that be for the lad?
We've sung it about Porter and Mcburnie, would think he'd know it's in jest. Did Didsy get it at one point?

Was at the Donny game yesterday and they were singing it about Billy!

I think we all want that mate he deserves a break poor kid but i think he is now walking a tightrope . It is a make or break season for him ,I am not blaming him for a second he must be more fed up than any supporter is the way it has gone for him but he will start slipping down the pecking order and the best way for him to keep in the managers thoughts is for him to start producing what he was bought for . I think the club has been really supportive of him but can not see it lasting much longer . After all he was not cheap but in a funny way that might be the reason the club has been tolerant with him .Really hope it works out for the lad ,he deserves it .

He's 4 years into a five year contract, and he knows his career depends on this season..

I've backed him and criticised him in equal measure..

But, let's not be too hard on him.

I think he'll be injured again inside 5 weeks, it's not his fault I know, but I hope we plan for it and get some cover in..

Relying on brewster is like building a house at the side of a volcano..

Let's get the lad from Plymouth.. after today of course...

I’m going to try and refrain from criticising him any further than I already have done and hope he has a good season. If he could score some against the pigs and contribute 10+ goals overall it would be greatly appreciated.

How can someone be criticised for getting injured?

I mean that’s just idiotic, he’s not sat there hoping he’s injured, and certainly not faking it.

Sadly, for whatever reason he’s just going to be one of those players who will be injured if he tries to go full tilt. Sadly he’s aware of it so is playing within himself without even realising it.

It’s clear he needs a run of games and fitness, but I just don’t see that happening for him. His previous years here will repeat- he slowly builds himself up, fitness improves, things feel good so he starts to open up…then pop…there goes the Hamstring again.
Worse for him is he’s a power player, pace his main weapon back when we paid that fee. He will never have that in his Arsenal again, and lacks the finishing of a billy sharp.

Sad as it is he will walk away from here and drift down the leagues and retire before he’s 30

Much like the other lads, dropping down to championship level can give them a chance to pick up confidence and develop their game. Brewster needs toe up his level this season, it's make or break for his career imo, if he doesn't show much before Christmas he needs to be shown the door in January while we can hopefully recover something of the over the top fee we paid for him, I hope he can have an impact this season ,but it's just a hope

His last two Championship seasons ended thus -

21-22 14 games, 3 goals. 22-23 16 games, 1 goal. Rhian Brewster will not be our saviour.
