In all honesty, a buy back of 37 million when there's that much initial outlay is dogshit anyway.

Reguilon has just joined Spurs for a reported £12m with a £25m buy back so it's not that much different.

Can you imagine the fall out later tonight if we get dicked over by Villa............car park and shoes come to mind......
You could be right gb. Not in anger but frustration, the hard work is done ie getting out of L1, walking through the Championship and excelling in our first season back in the PL.

But wounded blades have long memories and we are stood on a trap door in the promised land, all we need to do is take one step forward off the trap door to be safe. But, has it come too soon? Can we afford to invest? Are we just taking parachute payments as insurance and not risking debt?

Maybe HRH has a business plan and would take a drop with £100m in parachute payments along with a low wage structure so it doesn’t have to be used for its intended purpose ie settling PL contracts to readjust. Instead it could be used to improve the infrastructure, pay off the “mortgage” etc and mount a new campaign debt free.

One things for sure if we don’t strengthen the insipid attack we will stay fairly viable financially but at what cost. That’s where the fans get frustrated, we want continued success and we want it now not in 5years which is a relatively short time in business planning but not in football.

Iv‘e taken my time typing this in the hope that there’s been a big announcement in the last 10 minutes. I’m off for an Covid antibody test at 1pm, hoping to go with news as I drive past BDTBL.

For all we know, we could’ve bid too, but Sky’s “sources” may not have heard about it yet. Or am I just optimistic?

Think you’re being optimistic, no big reliable media sources have said we have made a bid. All of them saying Crystal Palace as front runners. They also have money which we don’t seem to have.

very disappointing. Hoping Wilder and team pull out a magic striker signing from somewhere. Not enamoured with signing an Arsenal youth that’s never played at a competitive level.

Yes, the betting markets are definitively always accurate barometers of transfers and don't at all just fluctuate based on where the money's being laid by punters.
The bookies make or lose their money based on this insider information, which as we see from twitter is abundant and highly accurate, rather than using simple mathematically probability algorithms working out risk and potential loss on the bets being placed.

Nothing to do with betting markets it is just our club all over they never learn.

But we ideally want a striker than get us 10 goals (double figures) this season as our top scorers were at 6 a piece. That might win us a few extra points in tight games. I think Brewster could potentially do that. Coming up against the prolific forwards that Liverpool have, that isn't going to be in line with their targets to win PL and CL so he won't break into that front line. He could do a job for us, maybe not but the fact is, our aims aren't even comparable to Liverpool's.
Yep that's a fair point re relative expectations. I'm just unsure about us pinning our hopes of solving a crucial lack of goals issue on a young kid that Liverpool are happy to let leave.

I guess for them the buy back element of any deal insures them in this regard.

Bit bored of Brewster now anyway! Wouldn't it be nice if we unveiled someone no-one has mentioned and they have a good looking YouTube highlights reel!

To let our striker search get to this stage is quite upsetting. If we don’t win tonight it becomes more of a struggle to attract players. Not sure Chris is telling the truth when he says it’s been his best window. Our number one task was a striker and we might be relying on a lad from arsenal who had never played league football. I would prefer grant form Huddersfield over Brewster by the way but he may be in his way to West Brom.
Actually our number one task was a goalkeeper.

He arrived quite early in proceedings

Karlan Grant worth a look? £15m apparently and West Brom in talks

Brewster is a London lad and has seen Palace in the top flight for long periods of his career. He’ll look at the likes of Townsend and Zaha and also Eze and think about the number of chances that will be created for him from those players.

He may then consider that palace generally play one central striker in a 3 with Ayew in that position, now, and consider how much football he will get at Palace. Since we play two up top and already have a target man he can feed off he will think his chances of playing time will be better at Blades.

Both managers have their merits.

Its’s a tough decision.

I’m going with the draw of being back in London, as the clincher.

I wonder whether Klopp may have advised him one way or the other too? If so you would think that we would come out best on that element.

But then there are wages and I can see Palace doubling what we can offer.

The deal is dead, we have dragged our heals, I'm sure cw has other irons in the fore, and whose to say they won't turn out better than Brewster.

Roy Hodgson is determined to get Brewster in - he first noticed his ability when he was manager at Anfield, and the youngster was in Liverpool’s academy.

Remarkable foresight for Hodgson to spot Brewster in the Liverpool Academy given he joined it 4 years after Hodgson stopped being Liverpool manager.

The worst thing about this is going to be the infinite amount of threats created every time he scores now.

in all honesty 19million isn’t l unreasonable when buying from a huge club. He’s got the Potential to be a star and that’s what these players cost - we paid Near enough that for mcburnie from a championship club (-and one who which was in dire financial straights.) The add ins will be dependent on how well he does and will be a snip if he plays well.

For that price it’s an opportunity missed imo.

Let’s go and get balogun and use the loan on some midfield creativity now.

Well that's a bit of a bummer

But the club will move on and focus on someone else. It's just a case as to whether we can complete a deal before deadline day

I'm now looking forward to our lads banging a couple in tonight and then I can start a new thread on how we don't need to sign anyone :)

Its only an opportunity missed if we could have afforded the deal and it fit into our model. Which it clearly didn't.
