Unfortunately, while Sharp is undoubtedly the best finisher at the club, I feel CWAK continuing with a flat three in midfield doesn't help him. While he can hold-up the ball, his lack of pace limits his contribution outside of the box. He may start a few games (possibly even tonight) but suspect both he, Burke and Mousse will mostly be subs with the starting strikers rotating between McB, McG and the new arrival.
More than a hint that the flat 3 in midfield may be tweaked a bit this season 😉.

I think you have to look beyond Sharp's contribution on the pitch. He's the club captain, all of the players say he is in charge of the dressing room.

We've just signed a load of new lads, a lot of them very young, characters like Sharp and Jagielka are needed in there for their leadership qualities.

Moreover, he actually ended up playing a lot of games last season. He can be relied upon to do a fairly decent job for us. He's into his final playing days, he's on good money & probably likes driving 10 minutes to work each day and spending time with his wife and kids.

I don't think playing 90 minutes every week is his priority anymore. He's probably looking at roles in our club for post retirement.

Well there's no natural #10 in the squad following Freeman's departure. I see the only other possibiliy being reverting to a diamond with McG dropping to act as the point, as was done several times last season.

Absolutely. Dids a very good foil as a #10 for a pair of #9s. Suspect we may well see more of this going forwards having gone ever so slightly more defensive last season.

Might be a few more 3-3 draws this time round !!!

He’d rather stay and fight for his place than go to the Championship on loan

You can’t guarantee Moose or McGoldrick’s fitness and Burke is an unknown quantity
It’s not a case of ‘we’ve got 6 quality forwards here’ if we sign Brewster so one has to leave.
I hope so, but it depends on what it is he wants to do.
Game time for him or the 100 goals or just being part of the squad and making a handful of appearances.
I take the point about the fitness of the others, which is fair, but Billy is going to be 35 this year and if he wants to just play I wouldn't block his move if it's what he wants.

Coming right back round to the start, I hope he stays and breaks the 100 goals.

Did I just dream that think about Sharp being one of the fastest at the club last season?

Fair point 8B - perhaps mobility would have been a better adjective for me to use than pace.

There's obviously a difference in 5-10 yard sprints and continual movement with and without the ball in the opponent's half, especially when isolated up front.

Well, as has been said before the club needs to keep moving forward, and keeping a declining Striker when you are in a position to improve that area of the pitch would be foolish.
At Sharps age he has to play regularly if he is to keep playing at all. He thrives off being match sharp, and doesn’t have the attributes to come on and change a game in the premier league when you are struggling.

If we get Brewster, then he has to accept his chances will be limited, he may not even make the match day squad if everyone is fit. Wilder has always been honest and will tell him such, and like last season let him decide.
Derby would be a good loan move.
You're forgetting/not mentioning that Sharp is a fan, legend, positive influence and club captain. He'd probably rather help slightly in the background here, than start again at another club.

Future striker coach here hopefully, or similar.

Whether it's Brewster or not ( I think it is ) then it must be wrapped up barring one or two details. Wilder is cautious to a fault when discussing transfers, unless someone already has one foot in the building. And the way he was talking last week suggests that a deal is in place for someone. We are just waiting on someone or something to drop somewhere.

In light of all the above, are we signing Brewster or what then?
Firstly we have to submit detailed plans to Klippty Klop about how we plan to improve him over the next 5 years.
We have to show him all our tactics, training schedules, targets for transfers & dietary regimes.
We also have to show him all out financial records & medical records.

Finally at 5pm everyday the entire squad and management team need to zoom call Klopp and genuflect for 10 minutes, whilst chanting 'we are not worthy oh great one'.

Then about a month later Liverpool will make a decision.

Billy needs to see out his contract with us, while finishing his badges and starting a bit of coaching.

A few 20 minute stints on the pitch and his 100 goals is enough this season. Then player manager somewhere close, like Chez, where he can lean on Tufty for support.

Once he’s worked his magic on some lower clubs he can come back home as our gaffer.

In reality, things will happen that make his mind up for him - as Lennon said “Life is what happens while you’re making plans.”

Whatever he does, he will always stand at the front, alongside TC and Deano, in my Blades lifetime memories. The picture of his diving header against Norwich has joined the one of Deano scoring the first Prem goal v Manure as my joint favourite.

Strange old game, Loan benefits us financially but only a sale benefits Liverpool financially enough for us to have him.
