🤣 it’s not a case of Sharp or Brewster.

So we will start Sharp AND Brewster?
McB out....McG out... and start these two?
Give yer head a wobble.

Maupay was wanted to replace Sharp. We didn’t get that one in so stuck with what we had and monitored our options. This lad is coming to take Sharps place. (If he arrives at all)

McB will start when fit.
That leaves one forward spot up for grabs, and who takes that will depend on who we are playing and the tactics for that game. It will be hard not to play McG given he’s our main creative link player, so if we play flat 3 in midfield like last season I see McG starting, with Mousset and Brewster as the options from the bench.
If he players a sitting two (from Fleck/Norwood/Ampadu/Berge) then we may get Brewster in at the same time with McG having a free role.
I just don’t see Sharp getting many minutes, and only starting if we get injuries.

So loan, with recall.

Why does he need to start? 🤣
We always had 3 strikers on the bench last season when they were all fit, not 2.

We had 6 strikers last season son. We’ll have 6 strikers this season son. Sharp will be going nowhere son. It’s a long season of condensed games and we ask our strikers to do more running than any other area of the pitch apart from wing back.

Sharp signed a new 2 year deal 6 months ago. He’s not going anywhere. Nor is McGoldrick. Nor is Mousset.

I agree it’s McBurnie and one other. 3 strikers on the bench, I believe Billy may not make too many Premier League squads but would expect to start every cup game, probably with Burke.
Depends on what Billy wants to do I suppose.

He’d rather stay and fight for his place than go to the Championship on loan

You can’t guarantee Moose or McGoldrick’s fitness and Burke is an unknown quantity
It’s not a case of ‘we’ve got 6 quality forwards here’ if we sign Brewster so one has to leave.

This is it - it’ll be Billy’s call, he’ll not be pushed out the door.

I’m sure Wilder will be honest with him about his position and Billy’s not thick - he knows he’s getting further down the pecking order as time goes by and we strengthen. If he wants regular games he’ll go but I would say:

1- Billy is our only 100% definitely match fit striker right now.

2- Billy is presiding (as club captain) over the most successful period of our modern history. He may be more than happy to be a bit-part in that in terms of minutes played.

Even if we sign another striker, Sharp will be our 5th or 6th striker. Like Zickovic or Clarke were last year. There will always be 4 strikers in the squad and Moose and Didzy pick up a fair few little injuries.

Started with 6,
Sharp, McB, McG, Mousset, Robbo...And Clarke added after we didn’t get a taker for him.
Zivkovic added after Robbo went.
Now you can say we had 6, but realistically only ever used two from the bench.
At no point did I say we will only have 5, we could manage with 5 and have Billy playing games elsewhere on a recall if needed. We could also stick lads like Hackford in the squad to add numbers and develop him.

What I said was Billy needs to play regularly to be at his most effective. McB will start.
That leaves for the most part one starting place....from McG, Mousset, Sharp, Burke and if he comes in Brewster.
From that lot Billy won’t get much game time..cups probably. But they don’t feature enough for us to get the most from him. Brewster plays over Sharp...so yes, it becomes one or the other.

Burke or McB

Sharp/McG/Brewster/Mousset

Most likely Mousset (as he can barely manage 40 mins) and Burke as impact subs unless those two can sort themselves out and resolve the issues they have to force their way into starting.
Of course there’s also the chance we get a loan in too, pushing Sharp further down the order. I’m also suggesting the young lad Hackford could take up a place on the bench with little chance of playing the same as Sharp would.

It’s all speculation.

On the whole Billy thing. First and foremost he’s a professional, and he’ll want to be playing.

Secondly, A loan would enable us to shift a certain percentage of his wage onto another club - this would help us financially. Billy isn’t a parasite and I’m sure it wouldn’t sit well with him not making match day squads yet still picking up a good wage.

I’m sure he has the clubs interests at heart, and not just himself.

Nobody said he has to leave.
You can’t guarantee anyone’s fitness, but McG has been fit for nearly every game for two years but you seem to say he’s likely to be unfit.
Mousset granted, I’ve ranted enough about him as his attitude and lack of fitness is down to laziness and poor application.

What’s likely however is that fitness aside, of the 6 we would have when fit, Sharp would be unlikely to start. He’s also not an impact sub to come on and cause defenders problems.
If your missing chances and controlling a game you might bring him in hoping he gets on something, or to be fair his experience can buy fouls and help see games out.
Is he going to be happy with that?

I hope he hangs about, and gets a few chances and bags a couple of goals. If Just for his experience and professionalism to Inspire some of the others.
But I wouldn’t also be shocked if he took a chance to play 60 mins elsewhere every week either

Let me get this right, all this Billy conjecture started from a random tweet posing as a Derby ITK who hasn't even named the club, just Brewster. Apart from the fact it's almost certainly made up bollocks, it may not even be us he's made it up about as we aren't the only ones in the race even if we do lead the pack.

May I point out that it was in the Derby paper at the same time as we signed Bogle and Lowe that Derby wanted Sharp on loan.

I love all the people on here who speak with apparent authority regarding things they know absolutely nothing about. You don't know Billy, you don't know the inner workings of the club, and you're just giving your minds a treat pretending that you do. Having an opinion is one thing; pretending that you're somehow in the inner circle and have knowledge that the rest of us don't is beyond pathetic.

Chris needs someone he can trust to come off bench and grab a goal if we need it, right now Billy is that best option

I bet there's a shit load of clubs, not just Derby, would love Billy Sharp on loan (or sign permanently) but he's ours, still a goal scorer and our club captain who will have a large influence in the dressing room.
Going nowhere - end of.

I can certainly rule out one club only a few miles away, at 34 he's past it.
And they know a player when they see one after having the best midfielder outside the Premiership for years, 2 young keepers who are going to fight it out for England's No 1 position, a Chelsea wonder kid (are you still a kid a 23),
Wigans best defender ever who scores 15 goals a season, and a player worth 5 million (if they could find a club daft enough to pay it).

Surely Derby don't need another striker - weren't they so sure that Marriott and Waghorn were the answer that they did the Champ equivalent of Villa and made ridiculous offers for them?

Yep.

Linz & Foxy better order a few extra custard pies for dishing out at the end of season forum “awards” !!!

Sorry don’t get it unless you saying that you think he will have a good season?
In all honesty he has surprised me as I thought he was past it two seasons ago and he has proved me wrong, but he has lost even more of the pace he never had and for that reason I think that his time has come to be overlooked. Hope I am wrong but that is how I see it, although can see him getting some minutes tonight and is still a valuable member of the squad but not as a starter and if we sign Brewster he drops even further down the line of Substitutes to be used.

Oh don’t get me wrong, in Wilders head he is 4th choice at best.

Having looked good last pre season he was benched and the same will happen later today. Expect the two Scots to start.

My point is, he SHOULD have had more minutes last season and that trend will no doubt continue this term.

EVERYTHING taken in to account, remains our very best shot at converting opportunities that arise, and by quite some margin.

Unfortunately, while Sharp is undoubtedly the best finisher at the club, I feel CWAK continuing with a flat three in midfield doesn't help him. While he can hold-up the ball, his lack of pace limits his contribution outside of the box. He may start a few games (possibly even tonight) but suspect both he, Burke and Mousse will mostly be subs with the starting strikers rotating between McB, McG and the new arrival.
