I'm absolutely gutted at the death of George Baldock.

And I'm gonna get hammered for this, but many think as I do, and even know why....so here we go

Drunk footballer who played the majority of his career in England drowns in his pool after consuming untold amounts of alcohol 'after' learning he won't face England in the upcoming international match.

Awful situation, and if we hadn't released him, he wouldn't have had a fucking pool

And that's why you don't retire a shirt number.

Suicide has been suggested. Which I don't mock. That's deep
Sometimes, just sometimes, you need to think before posting. This is one of those times.

Just fuck off, idiot.

A large metal Plaque on the south stand ,that would stand the test of time , giving his Family a permanent memorial ,naming the fanzone a bad idea .

Are you trying to be ‘edgy’ like Frankie Boyle or something?

Your input to this forum has always been a load of boring, inane shit as it is so I’d suggest you go fuck yourself, leave, and don’t let the door hit you on the way out you wrong ‘un.

Some posts are ill-considered, then some just make you wonder at their thoughtlessness. Who knows if George was drunk? To make such a comment
is judgemental, ignorant, and stupid, This poster clearly hasn't received the grownup advice that sometimes it's better to remain quiet than to imagine you have something
helpful or useful to add to the existing threads.

We've already seen examples of egos lacking discretion, but to make comments that have no basis in fact suggests 'self' rather than anyone else. What is it about some
people that they fail to understand the issues that really matter?

Perhaps you should look at the video on vip blades with the mail journalist, no suggestion of such a thing

What the fuck? Genuinely the worst post I’ve ever seen on this forum.

To everyone outside of those who are us, will read vodka bottles and drowned in pool.

If you don't get what the 95% out there will think, then you need to get out more.

Why report empty vodka bottles if the suggestion for the wide audience wasn't to suggest what they'll think.

I think a tragic unexplained accident.

I'm told via reports to think something different.

Oh my God, sheep

Your explanation likely reflects your current thoughts, as it appears to be quite unclear.

Nah, see ya Friday mate, Saturday....

Keep the Number 2 so players can forge their own blades legacies with that number.

Put a plaque somewhere at the lane (perhaps near the shop where the quotes from Jags, Deane and a few others are), that would be a fitting tribute from United.

Are you drunk? that's absolute incoherent, nonsensical bollocks that nobody who was absolutely gutted would ever consider writing, let along actually posting.
Yes I am. I'm hitting out in anger. I don't know why really. I'm angry at the reporting. I'm angry how it's been portrayed in the media I've read and heard.

In Sheffield you aren't hearing what is being said across Europe, Asia, American territories and east Africa.

I'm pissed off because sympathy beyond our club (and clubs he played for) doesn't extend into the reporting across the world 😒 😑

Sorry you’ve lost me. It’s like you think you’ve told me why we don’t retire a shirt number but in fact you’ve just typed a load of fucking nonsense.

Don’t feed the troll. If you ignore them they go away.
They don’t though do they,

You're a fool mate. There's a world outside your window of 'idealism'.

Troll, I mean really 2024, when I've been a member of these forums since 2006 ish. If you ain't angry at the journalistic coverage, perhaps you should see what the fuck is outside your PERFECT world

Are you suffering from concussion? It's like your fingers aren't connected to your brain and they're typing a load of shit that doesn't make any sense. I live in the States and the news coverage I've seen has been very respectful. Seeing the Greece players and fans again, extremely sad but classy in the way they've handled it.

You on the other hand, your first post came across like you're having anger issues and shouting at the sky, rambling like you're on summat and not making much sense at all. Sadly it's been downhill from there so why not sleep on it, and if the weird behaviour persists go and get checked out. Seriously, you sound like you need a hug and maybe some medication and if you come back and say otherwise, defending the shit you've posted then yes, as others have said, you really do need to fuck off.

What on earth are you thinking with these posts?

From the most recent reports I've seen from Greek media that refer to security camera footage, he was swimming absolutely fine for 10-15 minutes and then just suddenly stopped and sank, which would suggest to me it's a heart failure issue.

Now if you want to have the discussion about what is increasingly causing such heart issues amongst healthy athletes and young people in society over the past 2-3 years...then that is another story.

Off topic perhaps, but a reason for suddenly stopping and sinking could be hyperventilation. It happened to my niece at a swimming gala, when she was demonstrating long distance underwater swimming, but there were people present and she was pulled out with no ill effects. Right as rain with her first breath.

The problem is that if you take several deep breaths in order to see how far you can swim under water, that is hyperventilating and it loads up the lungs with oxygen. I am told that the lungs don't signal to the brain to take a breath when oxygen is low, they signal when the CO2 level is too high. With hyperventilation, the oxygen can run out before the CO2 level is too high, so the brain doesn't know it needs oxygen and it simply shuts down.

This is why underwater swimming when swimming alone, is a very bad idea. I have no idea whether it happened to George Baldock, but it's a possibility.

If that is what happened, he would not have known a thing about it.

A kind gesture, but EFL rules prevent it unfortunately. You can't change a player's squad number without a change in his registration; i.e we'd have to terminate his loan, and re-sign him under a brand new loan agreement in order to change his squad number.

I actually think that Gilchrist is showing himself to be a great inheritor of George's shirt. He's another defensively adept, hard-working lad. A few of his performances this season, in keeping some talented wide players quiet, to me have a feel of George keeping the likes of Zaha in his pocket when we were first in the PL under Wilder. He's done that shirt proud so far, and long may it continue.
The PL can give permission for a player to change his number. I have vague memories that it happened one year when some club signed an ex-plyer in the January window and the PL allowed the man who had his number, to change so that the returning hero could have his old number back. Can't remember more than that.

But if the club did want to change Gilchrist's number, it could be done.

Could be a number of things - stroke heart brain I read somewhere he was on a special diet due to allergies

I'm not sure where you're getting this from, but the Premier League rulebook makes no mention of this. Even when Arsenal re-signed Thierry Henry on loan, they couldn't give him the #14 shirt again because Walcott had it, so Henry got #12 instead. If a player as iconic as Henry is to Arsenal can't have the shirt number he's forever associated with, I don't see how anyone else could.

The specific rule is M4 in the Premier League Rulebook:

"While he remains with the Club a Player will retain his shirt number throughout the Season for which it was allocated."

Besides, we aren't in the Premier League, so even if they have given an exception at some point, it is of no worth to us while we are in the EFL. I've read the EFL rulebook as well, and it doesn't mention giving special dispensation to change numbers there either.
