So something abit different now, every thread seems to be about Wembley/Play Off Semi's etc.....

Assuming we LOSE the final (worst case scenario)...

Who would you retain? Who would you release? Who would you give new ONE year deals to? Who are you unsure about?

Then last of all....... who do you think we'll want to keep, but will struggle to? Feel free to put alterations incase we go up, for instance, i think we'll struggle to keep McDonald, however, if we go up, i think we'll manage to keep hold of him. Heres mine;

Stay up? keep the following.. Simonsen, Hill, Cresswell (one year deal), Doyle, Montgomery, Collins...

I think we'll release/sell the following, either way.. Taylor/Beattie/Porter (possibly, but i'd give him another one year deal)

We'll struggle to keep, Quinn/McDonald/Lowton if we go up or stay down, imo.

simmo, hill, monty, taylor and BT have to be released/sold for me
Think we will struggle to keep willo, mcdonald and lowton

I hope the players dont read this , what a stupid thread to start by a Blade ??? at this time , i am sure the prospect of losing their job will give them confidence and help them sleep at night .

My landlord was telling me how he once released a youth player for a game can't remember the team though
Oh he was a prison governor by the way

I said who would YOU, we don't choose who goes and who stays, im sure every professional footballer knows that some people will like them/their style and some won't.

If a footballer gets offended by these kind of threads, hes in the wrong job.

If he can read it will be a rarity...

:D

I know he's not first team, but Danny Deakin has been released from the under 18s. Really disappointed about this as I think he has the potential to be a really good footballer despite his size.

Saying that, he's competing with the academy manager's son (who has half the ability) so he didn't have a chance to be fair to him.

I think its more important who we sign.
I think even if we go up that most of the high earners will be gone.
I think its very important we look at the young players the top prem clubs are releasing & making sure we are in there for any potential recruits.
The way we have missed the boat on some of these players in the past has been a disgrace.

I came on here to start just such a thread so great to see somene else has. I would have started the thread using the proposition that it is 5pm next if after we have lost.
The reason being to sop a lot of the post match apocoliptic thinking if it doesn't go the way will all hope it does. Because I believe a loss will bring in a new era.

We will (if we lose) have to say goodbye to Quinn, McDonald, Willo, Maguire, Lowton, Monty and Ched has gone regardless and maybe Simmo. So therefore we will have major lossess from all four depts. But even with reducing the wage bill all is not lost. Danny (although I couldn't understand the logic during the season) has a development squad coming up the rails so to speak. I believe we will retain Cresswell and Porter we will also add Philiskirk and Tonne, thereby having both experience and youth up front (a bit like Collins and Maguire at the back). We also have Elliot Whitehouse, Matt Harriott, McAllister in midfield and Flynn becoming more prevelent also in Midfield. We will not be able to replace McDonald I think if we do win and he stays he could end up being legend but thats a different scenario. Looking at that we have a good holder in Doyle, McAllister, Elliot or Harriott alongside with Flynn on the wing. We need a few backups that can be aquired either through the Academy or with some of the funds released from the release of the high earners. We will hopefully keep leksy at left back and Taylor can back up I think Hill will be gone. Someone will have to come in to replace Lowton but hopefully Williams may stay, Ertl could fill in the Maguire role along with Morgs if he does recover and Collins as well as the coveted Kennedy coming through from the Academy. Mark Howard and George Long covering in goal.

All this means we have a blend of youth and experience and the chance to create a team that will learn together going forward to the future and assist in bringing through the youths. If we can convince Beattie to stay and help in the academy that would assist also.
I think thats something to look forward to. Even if it doesn't go to plan on Saturday. UTB

You look forwards to that ? seriously ?
Yeah I really like to see development, and the whole thing about building a team going forward. Also this obsession with success defining a club rather than a community entity means that people live their lives vicariously through the results of something they can't control, rather than watching something their community develops. Thats why I'm not worried if we lose. However I don't want us to lose so I'm not "looking forward to it" but would look to see how this develops if we are again unfortunate.

Retain Cresswell and Porter, have Taylor as back up then you think Ertl or Morgan could fill in for Maguire and keep Beattie to help in the Academy ............. ???

Tell me you are on the wind up please, or maybe you had a few too many sherberts, if it's drugs let me know I could do with some of what you are on.

As for me, i would keep McD, Lowton, Williamson, and get shut of Montgomery, Quinn, Simmo, Doyle and Collins, as well as Hill and Williams.

The good lower division buys that are around will be missed by SUFC , as ever, in favour of hasbeens and hopeless neverweres.

If that is the basis of our team next season we will be relegated - whether we are in the Championship or League One!

Eh?! Are you a Wendy trying to wind us up?

Don't talk rubbish...if it was believed he was good enough he wouldn't have been released. It is not a case of one player against another.

It is not just based on technical ability but also fitness, attitude and so on. Our academy team hasn't ot too bad a record in recent years (Naughton,Walker,Mellis,Maguire,Slew and potentially Long,Harriott,Kennedy,Whitehouse etc) so I would rather trust their judgement.

There will also be one or two that slip the net over a period of time but to accuse a club to chose a player ahead of another based on who he is related to is ridiculous. It won't be just Pemberton that judges a player

I think that we can trust Pembo to make a decision based on footballing skills. I wonder if the Notts Forrest lot castigated Cloughie for bringing his son into the team?

I too, am a fan of development, and it'd be great to see some of the young lads come in, however, it'll just be the same old, same old, a player comes through has a good season, then gets snapped up for a couple of million, heres a few examples of players who came through and only had one season before we sold them..

Naughton
Walker
Slew

and now possibly, Maguire...... sorry but if you have development players coming through, you need to do it properly, and the proper way is to keep them together, and resist the money, unless it could REALLY help the club go forward, the money we got from Naughton/Walker (8million, i believe) took us backwards, not forwards as the money wasn't spent wisely.

I can't believe some are wanting Simmo for next year. HE has cost us two many points over the last two years. Def has to go.

Also, unfortunatly Porter has another year on his contract so won't go.

Instead of asking who you want to stay and go, we as fans have no control over that. The question we should be asking "can DW sign the right players to either keep us in the championship or win us promotion from league 1 next year". On this year signings and his past signings at Swindon, I'm not sure he can. But time will tell.

What a pointless thread the week before a Play off final , you don't know what division we will be in and it just gives the likes of mpjacko an excuse to slag the players and manager

You seem to forget Judge that people were posting about teams for next year well before the season ended. And it's only me who slag of players. I bet you've slagged Monty off few times but seeing as you've done it, it's ok then

This is the only way of bringing any sort of big money in. The only way we'd keep these players is if we were in the premiership and even then if one of the top 6 teams fancy taking one of your players they're as good as gone, look at Young, Downing, & Barry from Aston Villa, Berbatov from Spurs, most of Arsenals best players end up getting sold ffs

Guess we may as well pack it in and not even try, scrap the Academy ( joking ). I think what pisses the fans off is the fact that we never put up much of a fight up to keep the young players and rather than selling them at a price that makes the eyes water we sell them as cheap as chips.

Yes, that is the main issue. The fact that everyone else seems to get a small fortune when they sell the crown jewells and we get a couple of mil, if we're lucky

Southampton have certainly got some dink for their promising youngsters but it cost them going down to div three.

Wycombe only got a pittance for Matty Phillips so it's not just us - the prem teams hold all the aces and however big you think we are - we aint

ooh bitter.. i know how you feel though.. same thing happened to me in the school team..
we once had a bloke called Billy Sharp.. Warnock said he was crap and he went to Scunny.. we ended up having to buy him back.. football is littered with people that got rejected at some club or another and then made it.. in fact it seems it has happened to all of the best players

I trust their judgement in alot of areas but having watched the team so much this season I don't know what they're thinking keeping the likes of Pemberton. All opinions of course, and I hope I'm wrong but I don't think I will be in the case of Max. Obviously only time will tell us that.

It's not bitterness, just frustration for the points I mentioned above.

From what I've heard today, John Pemberton may be leaving soon anyway.
