Now I correct a correction. The list was out today WincobankBlade - you stirrer.:)

In fact my o.p. was entirely valid, thank goodness.

Not stirring and not especially wanting to join the bandwagon of slagging you, but there was an existing thread on the subject of the retain list, you could have used it to post your comments on the matter. But I notice you prefer to be in the spotlight and run your own show.

There are players on the transfer list who I thought were out of contract (Reed, Long, Hanson).

For all the talk Chris came out with when he joined about putting players on long contracts,we're giving out contracts which are too long. We don't learn.

Obviously, Thomas and Heneghan were punts and the former clearly has a bad attitude so can quite frankly do one.

I'm assuming that much of this is driven by lack of funds. The fact we have players like C Evans, Clarke, Sharp, Duffy, Lafferty, Holmes etc on too long contracts is I guess a result of that.

Also, does this mean Jake Wright has another year on his contract?

There are two ways of looking at this.

The kind way is that we have no money and the only way to attract players is to give them longer contracts than we'd ideally like to.

The other is the fact that we're so myopic about signing British (Isles) players that we're paying over the odds.

We basically need to spread our net wider. There seems little interest in doing that at the top, either from Chris of Kev

If I remember correctly, the reason we gave Leon a longer contract was the fact we couldn't match Bury's wages. Bury.

Based upon what evidence are Sharp, Clarke and Duffy's contracts too long?

Leon is the league's second highest goal scorer, has just enjoyed his best ever championship season. I'd argue that despite his age he looks hungrier and sharper than at any point of his career. I also believe we extended his contract this year based upon his performance (and if rumours are to be believed interest from Aston Villa , not Bury!) .

Duffy has been our biggest creative force this season. The most assists in our team.
One of the players of the season.

Sharp has scored goals. Key goals that have helped us enormously. He never was quick or athletic and remains a great finisher. On top of that he's a born and bread blade, who loves the club and is captain.

But like you say. We never learn , should have all of the on rolling one year contracts....... I see absolutely no flaw in that plan what so ever.

Fair point. I just feel that we're not in control of the situation and at some point we're going to have players on our books not good enough/able to start games but taking a wage so we can't bring in starters. If we had money, wouldn't be a problem.

As it stands, we have Sharp, Clarke, Evans, Lavery, Hanson as strikers in the team. Lavery will easily go, but we'll struggle to offload anyone else (should we wish to). It means it's difficult to bring other players in.

The ubiquitous and irrelevant Bladey factor persists. It makes no difference whatsoever. When the whistle goes and the ball is rolling, no player thinks about which club he supports or where he comes from.

“One of our own” is a silly, silly football fans’ myth. Tony Currie was born in London; not London Road.

It makes a huge difference to you ironically, given that you despise anybody born within an S postcode.

.

Seemed to matter to Dane Whitehouse who twice refused transfers, when Charles Green said he would make him train with the kids if he wouldn’t go , Dane said “fine this is the only club I want to play for”

Adkins ,agent ,Long all culpable ,all out to fleece me and thee. Anyway hes shit ,Wimbledons standards and audience are quite different to ours without wanting to sound like a pig. #lyletaylor

If only those deprived Dons fans had been exposed to the delightful talents of Mark “Ten Times” Howard eh?

On the pitch you are right. However, being a life-long fan makes them more loyal to the club. It also helps to breed a connection between fans and players. For young fans it's nice to think kids like them can grow up to play at the lane.
I agree it's not a huge factor but it's nice to have players who fully understand the club and what it means.

You're wrong (again)

if we went around offering everyone one year contracts, no one would sign ;)

might as well scrap international football then?
