Gary Naysmith and Derek Geary will both be looking to get ninety minutes under their belts in Tuesday night's totesportcasino.com League Cup fixture against Walsall at Sheffield FC, kick-off 7pm.

Naysmith made his comeback in last week's second string game against Derby County after over six months out with a knee injury, and the match against the Saddlers will hopefully see the Scottish international build on that performance as he looks to regain full match sharpness.

Geary, on the other hand, was thrown in at the deep end at Barnsley last Monday following Matthew Kilgallon's enforced departure with ankle ligament damage, but Tuesday's outing will be about getting more game time into his legs after more than 14 months on the sidelines.

Lee Williamson, Ryan France, Glen Little and Kyel Reid are all handed the chance to impress boss Kevin Blackwell, along with former Spurs midfielder Yaser Kasim.

Blades: Billard, Geary, Naysmith, Williamson, Maguire, France, Little, Kasim, S-Latef, Slew, Reid.
Subs: Foster, Andrew, Roe, Chappell, Brown.

Would be interested to see how Kasim does, he's got a reputation of being an influential midfielder, technically gifted if a raw talent.

No Camara interestingly, maybe he's pencilled in for a start on Saturday ?

I think most of us have presumed he'd go with Evans and Wardy up front with Cotts getting a reprieve, maybe not.

A bit more on Kasim:

Yaser Kasim - Central Midfield - One of the most technically accomplished players in the current academy group. Although possessing the skillz to play a more offensive role, he tends to be used as a defensive midfielder, where his reading of the game and long range passing can be put to good use.

Well it seems the club have taken note of my protest about the youth team/reserves merger. At least we now have 6 "proper" reserves in the team.

i've always rated williamson, and was happy when he signed. now he seems to be on the way back from his injury, he will be a fantastic player for us. UTB!

I'm not getting paid to write this, he obviously is.
So in answer to you having a go at me.
Meh!

You should have said that the spelling mistake was deliberate and meant in a spirit of irony :-)

Come on now, don't get too excited, remember what happens to talented football players when they play for Sheffield United.

After the management has turned them shite and battered their confidence into the shirecliffe mud.

Would this be why the vast majority of our "undersold" players go on to do very little? :)

That bloke we sold to Everton's done quite well.

That's one... I understand he's not going to have a great game this weekend though :(

Hardly the vast majority is it?

True, it's usually us that buy the players for vastly inflated fees and end up shipping them on for sod all.
Sharp and Evans will probably be the latest two.

Come on Len you know thats not quite fair. The only way we were able to re-sgn Jageilka was through a clause in his contract allowing him to leave for a PL side for a set fee.

There was a thread on this a while back where it was worked out that there are probably only two players over the last 20 years or so that we can be said to have undersold - Mendonca and Marsden.

Have they given an indication of when Williamsons neck muscles will be up to watching the ball constantly fly over his head yet? :)

From the top of my head; Fjortoft, Hutchinson, Deane (the second time), Harley, Sharp, Stead, Borbokis, Jags, Brown, Hulse, Kazim-Richards.

That's not to mention all the players we bought, turned into shit and went on their way on a free.

They vastly outweigh the occasional player we've shipped out for a big profit and subsequnently turned out to be a donkey (L Morris, W Quinn, etc).

add to that Dean Saunders, James Beattie and Marcus Bent.

Thanks for that. I thought I'd put Beattie. I forgot all about Saunders, yes I'd include that one too. Not sure about Bent though, didn't we get £3mill for him? I thought it seemed quite high at the time.

Fjortoft - got a reasonable amount for a player who was - much though we loved him - at that stage in his career - nothing more than a top level 2nd tier player

Hutchinson - didn't pull up any huge trees at the Lane and we got a fair price for him.

Deane (the second time) - arguable - its the clause in teh contract problem again.

Harley - you're having a laugh! We got rid of him at the right time as shown by his subsequent career.

Sharp - ditto - his level is the lower 2nd tier at best. The mistake we made was re-signing him.

Stead - again, we got a fair price for him - not exactly setting the 2nd tier alight at the moment

Borbokis - given that we got Kozluk, Hunt and £650K for him and given that his career nosedived after he left us, I think we got the best of that particular bargain

Jags - see above.

Brown - his contract was up in the summer, so getting £500 for him in Jan was hardly an undersell. Whether or not we should have signed him up a new contract earlier is a different issue.

Hulse - not the same player after breaking his leg as shown by his failure to score at all in 2007-08. Getting a million plus for him in the light of his performance that season was a good deal.

Kazim-Richards - he costs us £150kish. After one PL season when we was in and out of the team, we sold him for a million plus. Looks like a good deal to me.
