Replica shirts

As already stated there weren't official replica kits in the early 70's.
It was just generic red shirts, blue shirts, red and white striped shirts etc.
I suppose commercially it made sense because Blades, Sunderland and Southampton fans could all buy the same red and white striped shirt.

The earliest replica kit I remember was the Admiral home shirt worn from 1976 to 1979.
My brother bought that shirt from Suggs oppostive the B & C co-op in town.

The first shirt I ever bought was the 1981 home shirt when we entered the 4th division.

Early 80's is when the buying replica shirt popularity started with Le Coq Sportive playing a major role with their shiny material shirts.

The famous green "Super tele" St Ettiene shirts were really fashionable.
Nottingham Forest had the shiny shirts too.

In fact fashion sportswear really took off in the early 80's with tennis and golf fashions entering the high street too.

There are a few excerpts from Get Shirty on You Tube. It looks great, and the soundtrack is excellent as well.

That chocolate brown Coventry kit....
